We looked through hours of footage to decode some of the guns people carried at protests and rallies across the US over the past year.
Editor’s Note: This video has been amended from an earlier version. The following changes have been made:
– We initially referred to the weapon used in the Pulse nightclub shooting as an AR-15, but it was a Sig Sauer MCX.
– We clarified that one of the AR-15 parts we described as a short viewer is an optic.

I lost someone in gun violence few months ago ….
I appreciate those deputies giving that gentleman flagging everyone the business. Be responsible. This video on the other hand. Cringe af, sad this has to be dumbed down this far to be understood.
This reminds me of Making a Murderer where Brendan Dassey’s lawyer and the district appeals judge were so clueless about rural culture that the Judge assumed because there were .22 casings in the garage that they must have been from Brendan shooting the victim and the lawyer was so unfamiliar with her client’s cultural background that she didn’t know how to refute the judge’s train of thought. I grew up in the country and plinked .22s out the back door of my house all the time. It’s a common country occurrence. This journalism is equally clueless about gun culture.
Here are things I saw: A lot of the AR’s I saw were budget ARs like S&W MP15s and Palmetto State Armory. Even Glock is a pretty cheap handgun but scary since they don’t have real safeties. They were also not set up properly for urban fighting (i.e., 24x mag scope, holographic site on backward). This tells me these people are probably not super familiar with shooting but had invested a lot into "looking the part" by tricking out cheap guns with "cool guy" accessories. I also saw a lot of GoPros… these people are looking to catch something good. Reporting on the psychology behind these people would be infinitely more interesting than the guns they are carrying. They are scared and in no condition to be carrying any weapon regardless of whether it has a tube that magnifies targets or not.

Most educated reporter, but still clueless. The AR pistol @ 1:53 is not an sbr for many reasons, and if nothing else it doesn’t have a stock only a pistol brace. You can tell by the fact that there’s no cross connection from the bottom of the brace completing the triangle.
“In order to have a short barrel rifle it requires a tax fee and more credentials to carry one but we see one here” the reporter says its possible to get one then acts like it is that some has one….

This has some info that’s correct but totally miss represents the gun community and puts emphasis on topics that are very arbitrary and only are there to make guns seem scary. If you really want to learn about firearms…then go to either the Camps Geiger, Pendleton or the Ft Benning Schools for Wayward Boys…by the time you graduate you will have a pretty good idea of what different firearms out there…
And a private citizen can buy a Select-fire firearm…it just takes filling a stack of papers, having the 5 digits in cash for the firearm plus the $250 for the NFA stamp…
