The Future of Firearms with Suroosh Alvi | VICE on HBO

Suroosh Alvi takes a closer look at the future of firearms in America.

The firearms industry experienced unprecedented growth in the last decade. Fear of government regulation drove much of that growth as President Obama repeatedly tried to pass gun control laws in the aftermath of numerous mass shootings.

Now, with the political landscape fundamentally changed, the industry, and gun rights advocates, are looking for new ways to expand upon their 2nd amendment rights and the bottom line — with some surprising results.

This segment originally aired June 16, 2017, on VICE on HBO.

An armed society, is a polite society…

    2. A young person speaking about green energy is an activist, but a young person speaking about gun rights is a lobbyist. Why use a term with a negative connotation if not to paint a specific picture?

It’s ridiculous how some of the people in the United States are so racist.. Them in reality are to blind to the fact we are the same regardless of any differences

  7. Parsifal on November 24, 2021 at 8:50 pm

A society in which children and teenagers are the target audience and promoters of the weapon’s industry, in which violence is culturally and historically glorified and in which the psychological and social roots of mental illness is completely ignored when it comes to mass shootings… this is a truly sick and despicable society. And the saddest part is that they are so invested in this mindset that they’re completely unaware of its harmful nature.

There will be no future of firearms if the left has their way. This is why everybody is buying them up.

Without USA’s great, inviolable First and Second Amendments, only groups like the cannibalistic Isis cells and authorities could own guns – leading to something called ‘democide’!

Those people threatening Muslims makes me sick that’s not with guns are for guns are to protect guns are to enjoy their not to hurt people that disgusts me, remember not all of us on the right are racist bigots if I saw a hate crime like that I would fight to protect those people because that is just the right thing to do I am not some disgusting bigot

I will say, Vice did a fair job reporting on this subject. Even though I could tell the bias in the body language of the reporter.

  24. Forest Chicken on November 24, 2021 at 9:13 pm

Normalization of guns? Lol what an idiot. Its already normal, for about 200 years. Was he born in America?

  25. Tizona Delcid on November 24, 2021 at 9:14 pm

This is a dumb report. The ban on assault weapons will not affect sport shooters or hunting.

  26. Jonathan Berroa-Silfa on November 24, 2021 at 9:14 pm

“Studies show that illegal guns are used in 8-10 shootings in America”

So what you’re saying is gun laws don’t work as a majority of crime where guns are used are from people who acquired the gun illegally?

It’s almost like gun laws don’t work.

regardless of gun policy that child shouldn’t be getting sponsorships from massive corporations, just like how much of the gun crowd complains that society is "forcing sexuality" onto kids

  34. Peter Chonson on November 24, 2021 at 9:27 pm

Without proper training, how do gun owners feel so certain that they will be in position to take out a threat? For people pointing out the little girls as examples, I’m pretty sure they have have more training than most gun owners. Even police officers who have extensive training are killed in the line of duty, what make you think you can go John Wick on a bad guy?
If you’ve ever held a gun and weren’t scared by the power you hold in your hands, you should not be entrusted with that weapon.

I’m going to say something that may be controversial. The 2nd amendment (in reference to guns) is outdated and unnecessary. A gun in *ANY* situation makes that situation less safe not more safe. It had it’s purpose when america could be invaded at any minute, but not anymore. A gun is a ranged weapon that can kill many people instantly, while a knife is a tool that can be used as a weapon and isn’t ranged. You can run from, fight off, or simply be out of range of a knife while you can’t fight a bullet. You may think that bringing your gun into Walmart makes you more safe, while that may be true, also makes everyone else in that Walmart less safe just with the presences of a deadly weapon. If we take the same scenario and use a knife the maximum amount of people that are less safe is what, like 5 just by the fact that that is the limit of people that can be around you in striking range but even then only one of them will get hurt because the rest can react and flee. The fact that I legitimately need to be afraid that my school will get shot up and I could die in math class shows a failure of a system that we have.

  39. christdragon on November 24, 2021 at 9:29 pm

I recommend seeing Michael Moores documentary movie on guns. I have, even though I don’t agree with everything he says. In Switzerland it is required by law to know how to use a gun. As a result gun ownership is very high and crime is low. There were Proud Boys with big guns at a protest downtown in my back in summer of 2020. I was suprised to see this, but thankfully nothing happened. If I had the money I’d like to get one for hunting deer. Thanks.

  40. Dillon B on November 24, 2021 at 9:29 pm

Whose rights would you rather violate, an armed citizen or one that has been disarmed by the government? Do gun bans still make you feel safer?

For the record more gun restrictions were passed under Trump so stop painting him as the hero of the gun community. He was worse than Obama on this subject.

The future of firearm rights is staying the same, since all Americans have the right to bear arms. “Shall not be infringed”
