Actually… I used to be a distributors rep for a company that sold HAIX Firefighting, Police, EMS and Military boots and what I was told is that steel toes can actually be dangerous if you get your foot smashed good enough. If the rest of the boot isn’t robust enough, the steel toe separates from the sole, and makes for an excellent way to AMPUTATE your toes clean off. So those scrawny shoes made out of basically mesh would be EXCELLENT toe amputators if you really got your foot run over by a heavy enough vehicle? (The toe lifts up towards your body as it is squashed and pinches the toes off at the edge of the steel toe cover. So…. If you buy steel toe boots, the boot should have a steel shank and/or steel sole plate to keep the toe from lifting off the sole and cutting off your toes. A steel "toe" should be top and bottom, not just an upper shell which is what cheap boots do.
High quality boots like Haix, Globe, Danner, and Lion are solid choices. (you really do get what you pay for with boots. Haix had a BADASS boot by the way with Kevlar chainsaw protection…and it worked! THAT is protection, not some Chinesium bullshit)
