The main reason shotguns were considered inhumane was because medics couldn’t help soldiers that were wounded with buckshot and they couldn’t dig the pellets out, unlike burn wounds which can be treated. No excuse for gas, but only 3% of gas attacks were effective in the field.
Germans: "shotguns cause unessecary suffering!"

the thing with shotguns, was that they didnt kill the target, so the soldier that recivied the blast would die by infection or the amputation
They literally tried to nurf the shotgun. And yet they are using gas etc. I’d guess there a lot of pain and suffering from a rifle too. And barbed wire, and getting bludgeoned to death with a club or mace. O.o Flamthrower even. But the shotgun is too OP, ok…

Same thing happened with the crossbow way back when. Pope said it was "too evil a weapon" but it’s okay to have constant war so long as the church benefits.
Shotguns were not effective at all… the shells were made out of paper and in the wet environment made them completely useless, the American expeditionary force stopped using the shotgun out of pure hatred of the useless tube.
