Shooting the Mossberg 22 Long Rifle Model 702 “Plinkster” Semi-Automatic Rifle – Gunblast.com

FOR MORE INFO: http://www.gunblast.com/Mossberg-702.htm

Jeff Quinn ( http://www.gunblast.com ) tests the Mossberg 22 Long Rifle Model 702 “Plinkster” Semi-Automatic Rifle.

The Mossberg 702 Plinkster is a dandy 22 rifle at an exceptional price. It is lightweight, handy, reliable, and accurate. The 702 would be a bargain at twice the price, but instead, I just bought two rifles.

I cashed in a big coffee can of coins at a Walmart then bought a Plinkster there for $99.99. Ya can’t beat that y’all.

My first gun ever was a Mossberg 702 Plinkster. Maybe not as high quality as the 10/22, but it’s still one of the best value .22 rifles out there. The only issue I have with it are the 25 round magazines… they’re way too big for a .22 and look awful. The 10 rd mags are the best.

I bought mine at Walmart in 2004. It’s one of the most reliable guns I have. I’ve shot thousands of rounds through it and have had very very little issue with it. I’d say that maybe 10 out of 1000 rounds exhibit a failure to fire situation and that’s probably the ammo in all honesty. I think I paid about $90 or so for it. I haven’t always treated it well either. It’s a great gun that gets thrown around and still functions perfectly every time. Love it!!!!

  13. 2A Enthusiast on November 7, 2021 at 6:09 pm

I purchased a 702 6 years ago, and I don’t have any complaints. They’re tough to beat, especially at that price.

  14. jarkoer on November 7, 2021 at 6:10 pm

I got this gun on a trade I didn’t really want to make at the time (helping out a friend), but since then I’ve been really impressed. It’s accuracy and reliability is either equal or better than the 10/22 in my opinion. If they made custom stocks there is no reason this rifle wouldn’t be even more popular. It’s inexpensive, but I highly recommend it.

  15. Bert439 on November 7, 2021 at 6:13 pm

So at $150 is is still worth it, just looking for a home defense rifle.

Great video. Thank you my friend

  17. Dick Blackbeard on November 7, 2021 at 6:14 pm

Fine little rifle. I got one in 2011 for 107 bucks at Walmart. Mine doesn’t have the fiber optic sights but it’s still awesome. Everything is steel except the stock and buffer thing inside the action.

  20. Orlando Rodriguez on November 7, 2021 at 6:20 pm

Got one at walmart $99 it’s been under my truck seat for a year…back of the pick up..scruffed up knocked over but it’s still dead on…highly recommend it…..sportsmans warehouse has them for $109.

  21. John Doe on November 7, 2021 at 6:20 pm

Any firearm that works and sells for under two hundred bucks is a great deal! I have expensive stuff and every once in awhile need a "beater" that you can use with no remorse.

Recently I bought a Ruger LCP on sale new for $169 + tax. It has become my beater pistol of choice. I use it while fishing out in my boat, at work, going to the junkyard and scrapyard, working out in the garage and basically anywhere where I wouldn’t take something better.

Sweat on it, bleed on it, beat it to death….it asks for seconds and thirds.

Reminds me of SKSs when they sold for under $100. I should have bought more than 3 at the time.

Maybe a $100ish .22 rifle is on the bucket list in the future.

Even though I have a 1967 Marlin Model 60 (my first rifle) and a 1990 Ruger 10/22 stainless I purchased new, I’d never do "this" to them.

    John

Funny thing I just got my mossberg a little while ago. My dad bought it for me when I was 9. It was then taken by my mom who was a bad egg and it sat in an evidence locker until I was 24. Only has 30 rounds through it lol

  29. Nick Dupree on November 7, 2021 at 6:32 pm

That automatic setup is badass. I got the same gun but it’s still bolt action

  41. Brad Hatt on November 7, 2021 at 6:45 pm

Looks like a decent gun. Thanks for the review. I might buy one this weekend.

Did the humidity make your fan blades hang down like that or is that how it’s supposed to be?

  42. Doug H. in VA on November 7, 2021 at 6:47 pm

The stock 10 rd. magazine cannot be disassembled easily, so I used alcohol in a shallow small container to flush the insides out. Then by pressing the follower all the way down (kitchen knife handle or small dowel), a Q-tip with cleaner/lube can lube the mag inside before first use.

  43. Just1American1966 on November 7, 2021 at 6:47 pm

I was amazed after getting one at Wal-Mart for $99. Only thing I could think of that I would change is the lack of weight in the buttstock. The gun is nose-heavy.

I filled a sock with ammo and put it in there. Feels better now.

  44. matt johnson on November 7, 2021 at 6:49 pm

i have a question that i’ve not had answered just by watching 100 videos…i just bought one of these for my wife. Haven’t even shot it yet but was noticing that when the gun is NOT charged, I can’t put the safety on…is that normal?

  45. humdrummer on November 7, 2021 at 6:49 pm

  48. janibonneil on November 7, 2021 at 6:53 pm

Have taken mine twice now to the range. It’s very reliable and precise. Love it!!!!

  49. Lex5576 on November 7, 2021 at 6:53 pm

This is identically the same rifle as the Rossi RS22, except for the furniture. Both are produced by CBC’s Taurus plant at Sao Leopoldo in Brazil. I prefer the Mossberg version for it’s traditional checkering pattern. The Rossi’s checkering pattern is too modern and crazy looking IMHO. A fine little rifle, regardless of the bargain basement price.

  50. John Doe on November 7, 2021 at 6:54 pm

best $100 you will ever spend.
