Nice guns! I have an Old Model Super Blackhawk and a couple of New Model Blackhawks.
I will NEVER send my Old Model back to have Ruger put an automatic transmission in it. If a person is competent, the nonsense made for incompetents is not required.
When I bought my OM SBH they were also offered with brass grip frames. Mine does not have one, but the local gun store had a couple of the grip frames only and I bought them both. At $16.50 I thought it was a good investment. Now I see that it will only take a small amount of gunsmithing to install them on the newer Blackhawks. While that should give the grip enough length to hold on to, I lengthened the Super Blackhawk by adding uncheckered Herretts Shooting Star grips.

As you know, it isn’t just one company whose hand fitted setps of quality has diminished, It is something we as a consumer can’t stop and keep pricing reasonable, I was surprised looking at a group photo how small in the amount of employees Smith & Wesson has as their staff. It simply costs too much for the Hand fitting anymore and a company to make profit, they can’t afford it in this polymere age of chep plastic pistols. I have a suspicion the Smith & Wesson contracts their assembly of their revolvers, I have seen pistols that went out the back door that couldn’t have been done by Smith, bent ejector rods, canted barrels, crain gaps, Muzzle crowning that is non existent and absolutely horrible triggers. CNC can only do so much. It is a sad passing for all these companies and us as a consumer. -Dave
