Before it became predominantly associated with celebrity nips and tucks, plastic surgery was about saving lives. The medical procedure would change a personโs life โ not by giving them a little extra confidence, but by making it possible to walk outside again.
On some level, plastic surgery has been around for thousands of years โ but the idea really got started during World War 1, when doctors performed the first skin graft. With the world at war, medical science made some incredible leaps that would change plastic surgery forever.

My paternal grandfather came home a year after WWI ended being hospitalized in France after being gassed. His injuries were internal but lifelong too.
Ngl- I was really wary of watching this upload ๐, and it is very thought provoking- but impressive results in many cases, especially remembering this was over a hundred years ago!

The 1st nose job was incredible for it’s time and all of these actually. Dr’s did great jobs ๐
Especially helping out wounded soldiers, giving them somewhat of themselves back after fighting in those horrific battles.
I know mentally and emotionally they were most likely traumatized for life, but giving their looks a chance most definitely would’ve helped them out so much.
Thankfully they were able to get as much opioids and morphine as they needed back then, cause these operations back then were very painful and dangerous due to the lack of proper antibiotics.
The โ Ear Piercing Infection โ is actually Keloid Scarring. It is most common in dark skinned races and is always a risk. If you remove the Keloids there is a great possibility that the resulting scarring will also be Keloid..

I am amazed at how brilliantly advanced this Dr. was, whose cases were mainly featured in this video. The fact that he somehow made miracles happen long before medical & technological advancements, blows my mind. I had NO IDEA that they were even capable of ANY type’s of "reconstructive surgeries" let alone such well-done reconstructive surgeries & skin graphs that long ago. These surgeons paved the way for SO, SO MANY OTHER TYPES OF RECONSTRUCTIVE & COSMETIC SURGERIES.
Also the skill level & natural talent of the "mask maker" in the beginning of the video is unreal. I had no idea they even used such pieces as "medical / cosmetic mask’s" back in the day. That was literally early facial prosthetic’s and took so much artistic talent to create. I saw another online video & article about this same female "mask maker" from WW1 that now I HAVE TO WATCH!! *I saw the video you did on UCI’S, or Underwater Criminal Investigator’s and I thought it was very, very good, AN EXCELLENT VIDEO ACTUALLY.* I have quite a few UCI’s that I work with regularly as I live in the states, in Florida. Being that it is a "peninsula state" which is a state surrounded on all 3 sides by water, we have A LOT of UCI’s working here!! Having masks made for a deformed face is NOT an operation, nor is it plastic surgery. You have taken photos that are known to be of soldiers who were fitted for MASKS by Wood and/or Ladd and labeled them as operations, not true.
The photo of the child is of a cleft LIP, not palette.
The woman with the ear growths…it is called Keloid scarring and it is NOT caused by infection.
The photos of the jaw reconstruction are of different men, NOT the same man. Same with the facial reconstruction photos, NOT all the same man.

India has been doing "modern" plastic surgery since the bc era the skin flap rhinoplasty procedure started centuries ago in India the first world war was just the time that western doctors took the skin grafting and flap procedure from India and expanded on it this isn’t something that we created in WW1 lol not even close

Amazing procedures being done back then with so little to go with. I am very happy plastic surgery is much more advanced today and thankful to the Drs. who preform them. I mean life saving procedures not implants or whatnot yes they’re good but not life saving.
