New 16-gauge Over/Under from Stevens by Savage – the 555E

New 16-gauge Over/Under from Stevens by Savage – the 555E

The new Stevens 555E brings together the best of two worlds. First, it’s chambered in 16 gauge, an intermediate shell sometimes called a “gentleman’s gauge.” Second, it’s the newest edition to the budget friendly line of field guns from “Stevens by Savage.” Together, these attributes make the Stevens 555E a highly underrated over/under design for busting clays and upland game hunting.

Within the Stevens line, Savage Arms offers three over/under models: the 555, the 555 Compact, and the 555E. While the Stevens 555E has a higher listing price than the other two, it’s the more feature-rich design. The Stevens 555E features auto ejectors, an imperial walnut stock, laser-engraved filigree ornament, a tang safety, single-selective mechanical triggers, a lightweight aluminum receiver reinforced with steel, and the gun ships with a dandy hard case and five interchangeable choke tubes.

If the safety is forward she has the red dot showing. Safety would be to the rear , to cover the red dot.The model 311 is "fire ,forward" .safety to the rear . Does the safety go on automaticaly ?

I love and own a beautiful 16 bore side by side. I have checked out many new Turkish made over and under shotguns recently and found way way too many issues with reliability and craftsmanship points they all fall apart very quickly and are so unreliable that I would never buy one.

I have three Savage Stevens side by side shotguns. 12 16 and 20 gauge. I love them.

Love the 16 gauge. Looks like a quality shotgun too. My only apprehension is that it is made in Turkey. Not that the Turks are incapable of producing a quality shotgun, I just really prefer to buy US made firearms.

I love old Germanic sporting guns. Prewar shotguns made in Austria and Germany more often come in 16 gauge and fire 65mm long (2 1/2 inch) shells-not 2 3/4". You can get these from Gamebore and RST but you won’t find them at Cabela’s. Regular 2 3/4" 16 gauge shells will cost more than field 12 gauge shells but if you shoot a lot (as I do) you reload. Once you have fired off 3 or 5 cases of factory shells the cost of the reloading components is the same regardless of gauge. I am considering buying the Stevens 555 Enhanced only because it is available in 16. 16 is just right.
