Mossberg 702 Plinkster .22 Rifle – Best $120 I Ever Spent !!!

Mossberg 702 Plinkster .22 Rifle – Best $120 I Ever Spent !!!

The Mossberg Plinkster is a great .22 rifle for those on a tight budget or for someone looking for a great deal on a reliable firearm. I love .22 rifles and the Plinkster is certainly one of the most reliable that I have ever shot.

New channel supporter! I am drawn to your style and feel a lot of confidence in your opinions. I have been recently wanting to shoot more and somehow bypassed .22 all of these years. I have never owned one, but have shot some with Ruger 10 22 a long time ago. I was all set to get an AR style SW MP 15 22, but something is telling me to go more retro and get a Henry lever action as my first .22 rifle. I was even thinking about an inexpensive "Rough Rider" revolver to go with it. I have never shot either style of these firearms. I have a feeling that I would have a lot of fun, slowing things down a bit, enjoying my time without blasting through magazines with a red dot. Any thoughts?

The echo in that canyon is amazing.

My Plinkster felt a little nose heavy to me. So I removed the Butt Plate, I wrapped 20 rounds
of .22lr ammo in plastic so they would not rattle around and tucked them up into the hollow butt stock.
The balance feels better to me and in the future I will always know where I can find an extra 20 rounds.

Hey Mr. Mixup98. I just got a email notification from Mossberg online that they have the
25 round magazines for the 702 Plinkster finally back in stock. Cost is only $29.99.
I already have one but I wanted a second one.

Mine is a pos it jams every time it shoots. Don’t get one.

What’s you opinion on the barrel and sights?? I’m looking at a Rossi Rio Bravo 22 lever action for my grandkids. The Rossi also is made by that Brazilian company. The Rossi is a $299. rifle. I’m a Henry guy but giving a couple of 8-10 year old kids a Golden Boy is instant destruction. Opinion?? Thanks!

Just bought one today used. It’s an older model. Probably from the mid 2000s. It’s got the metal trigger housing and metal sights. In very good condition. Just really dirty. Needs a big cleaning.

Anyone else hear that high pitched whining sound like air is leaving a tire?

On 7 January 1966, My Dad ordered a .22 Mossburg 342KA for me with the money I got for Christmas 1965. He bought it a Bedford Gun and Tackle in Bedford, Ohio. The price with tax was $37.03. I used to shoot it down in our basement with a bullet trap!
I have the original sales receipt, and the instruction booklet. I went out and shot it today.

How’s the trigger lightness compared to the Ruger 10/22?

  16. Tim Russell on November 24, 2021 at 7:02 pm

Have had the 702 for years and have fired thousands of rounds through it. It will shoot reliably all day long with the standard 10 round mags but the 25 rounders have terribly weak springs and failure to feeds are common with those mags. Stick with the 10 round mags and you can’t go wrong with the plinkster. I paid 99 bucks for mine on sale several years ago!

Thank you for making this. Can those sights be removed? Thank you

Great videos as always. You kinda grew on me, I like your sense of humor. I have an old Winchester 22 LR. It was used but in great shape when Dad gave it to me at 12. I put that away for a keepsake and now looking for a less expensive but decent 22. Only 2 Gun Shops in town. Scambellas and another. I was thinking of the Rossi, but this video convinced me to spend the extra $60.00 and go for the Mossberg. I have an older Mossberg shotgun that has put many Canadian Geese, Ducks and Prairie Chickens on the Sunday supper table. I’ll go for Olde Reliable. Keep up the good work Buddy. And Thanks.

Yo a little tip i figured out for those fiber optics on the rear. If you get just a little bit of black paint and water it down to the point where it becomes translucent and apply it to the ends of the fiber optic rod it can help reduce the glare you’re experiencing

The Nikon Scope is hoping none of his friends are watching this video.
They will never stop kidding him about sitting on top of such a dead common rifle.

I have a Ruger 10/22 but with some upgraded mods, I’m thinking about buying one of these just to have a stock rifle.

  31. Phil K on November 24, 2021 at 7:14 pm

I bought one 30 minutes ago based on my own research. I went to look at some more videos and came across this one. Never watched you before! Great review, love your style, subscribed!

I’m waiting for a Rossi RS22 delivery ($119 – Same gun, same parts, same factory etc as you know) and enjoyed your video. I’m sure I’ll have loads of fun with it! My brother is waiting for a Ruger 10/22 in walnut wood which is also a good rifle. Fun!

Elegy primer in Aguila causes that smell

  44. Willy J. Orca on November 24, 2021 at 7:31 pm

Can’t decide on this or the Savage 64F. The one I’m looking at comes with a 25 round magazine but an 18 inch barrel. The Savage holds 10+1 but it has a 20.5 inch barrel. Same price.

  45. One Baller on November 24, 2021 at 7:32 pm

i bought mine at rural king about 4 years ago for $99.00 .fun little plinker and hunting .22rifle. the sights are so so but serves the purpose .i’ve only had a couple of hiccups with it in 4 years ..

  46. Brian Jones on November 24, 2021 at 7:34 pm

I just picked up the Rossi version online. Your tips on locking the bolt before dropping the magazine, and using your trigger finger on the mag release, were great. Those were the two problems I noticed when I got it home. Maybe they should ask you to re-write the manual for them.

  47. Mike Brown on November 24, 2021 at 7:39 pm

    Eley primer

  49. Bill23799 on November 24, 2021 at 7:41 pm

Thanks for the great video sir. I have only one question for you about the Plinkster.
Do you think a .22lr round will penetrate the tough hide of a Gorn? The place you beamed down to
does look like Gorn country to me.

  50. Frankie P on November 24, 2021 at 7:41 pm

Enjoyed this! Just picked one of these up for my kids but I’ve been having a lot of fun with it. Great review
