John ur off base here. The police were called, of course he’s NOT going to wait down the street. The perpetrator could have been murdering the others inside. YOU CALLED THAT GUY A VICTOM, nope he’s an attacker. You forgot to mention that the attacker could have had a knife hidden, fire arm, you name it. You both are smoking dope.
That’s a big dude that was charging at him. Cops have seconds to react sometimes . It’s either he got hurt, killed or fought back. Everyone has a right to defend themselves when they’re about to be attacked. I disagree with you both.

I definitely think the cop wouldn’t have shot him if he had proper back up . After using your only non lethal and someone is charging at you I feel that he was in the right of defending himself . You can’t have a fist fight when your have a weapon you should know that . This is the only video that I disagree with what your saying mostly bc it goes against everything you have said in previous videos .
Situations like this I think the parents/care takers are to blame. Why was a man this unstable man publicly out in society ? That means they lied to the healthcare workers about his level of functioning & he wasn’t dx properly or receiving the right/amount of medication

He’s going to through a mental episodes he didn’t have to die for it sorry the mental health officer was off that night they need to employ more of them that knows how to handle mentally impaired individuals
To say that the cop should of had hands on him when he charged like that is the wrong answer… For all we know and him, the guy could of been on something, perhaps meth, pot, or whatever … The drugged out democrats are the types of heathen who feel no pain and are invisible… It was obviously the crazy gut wasn’t in his right mind and even after getting shot a couple of times, he still was trying to go after the officer … And you’re saying, he should of had hands on?! .. Screw that "hands on" baloney, if I were that cop, I’d be putting him down too …
So, there’s been some pushback from the ol’ interwebs on this one. A few considerations for everyone:
I ran this by no fewer than five outstanding LEO to see if I missed something. Every single one of them thought it was a bad shooting. All five of them train cops in one capacity or another, be that as FTO, patrol sergeant, academy instructor, etc.
Since posting it, I have heard from one patrol sergeant who said his only disagreement was me saying that the TASER was a good choice initially, because the officer was solo and the TASER is not a good choice solo. Okay, I can see that.
I have heard from two academies that this analysis is entering their curriculum, and have heard from at least 3 patrol sergeants who have used it at roll call. I have bunches of LE friends who I have since shown it to, who unanimously said the analysis is good and they’re not sure about the blowback.
The objective reasonableness standard of Graham v Connor is pretty clear here, friends, and though it might be scary, the well-established self-defense doctrine of proportionality is clear as well.
I stand by what I said.
Fuck that!!! That cop went through his tazer & commanded him multiple times over & over. The cop kept backing up, telling him!! Fucking krazy, 51-50 it don’t matter. He went outside to regain poster and call for backup. Man i don’t agree with more than half the police shootings. Shooting people for running away not having a weapon and just chicken shit shootings by scared little no-dick cops. If this cop were to get busted in away is just fucking bullshit! If he gets busted then they ALLL need to get busted and thats just not how it works. The cop went outside saying that’s not how he works, so he went out after situational awearness took over just like you teach Big John. The guy bum rushed him 3 times after being tazed. The cop said a godamn prayer for him for christ sakes. CAN ANYONE bring up a clip where a cop prayed for some he just shoot. NOPE. It just clearly shows the cop’s deminor. The cop had to do what he had to. And i think was justicified. He did all the right things being by himself CLEARLY. John were you thinking different? First of all if the officer should have never went in. Multiple people in home Especially with someone who has known history. People in this state have superhuman strength. He should have called for backup before going in. The tazer didn’t work. You never go one on one with an individual with mental issues. Always go in with others. This officer would have lost a grappling session. Sorry just leave get more units. They could have tried other options.
Disagree with the analysis. That said, the true solution is to get rid of cops. No good, sane, sober, moral person should have to deal with this. Also, thank goodness the grand jury had the sense to reject the charges.

Cop NEVER knew his backup was only a minute away. I’m pretty sure if I tangled with this monster, with a bunch of weapons on my belt, he would absolutely get ahold of one and use it against me.

All said, dude’s size and attitude considered, I think it would be very easy to articulate imminent jeopardy and a reasonable fear of death or serious injury. Preclusion came from the failed taser and verbal commands.
i think pepper spray wouldve finished him, the officer did better then most other officers i seen on this channel, but pepper spray wouldve took this guy sight and that way he cant come after anybody

Everyone who thinks this is a good shoot is whats wrong with this country. Cop had no other choice? He had a choice to be better at his job every day and improve the skills that would keep him not only alive but the people he serves alive duringA KNOW MENTAL HEALTH BREAK. by signing up for a basic jiujitsu class a basic kick boxing class. As an average size guy (12 years of martial arts) even this dude is easily controllable with the right mindset and skill set. Yes we should EXPECT our police to have these skills.
Yea once you tank a taser it’s 9mm time. That man was in a primal state like another comment said when a human being Losses their inhibition either from drug use or mental Illness they become stronger it’s a fact. Common since should tell you if a guy can take a taser then realistic your physically not going to restrain him.
What i’m getting from this, whether a police officer, or civilian, you are saying they should take the beating before going to deadly force. Even if we take away the size difference, the suspect was able to fight through a taser. Was shot twice, and was still trying to get up to get the officer. When is it ok to defend ones self from harm? Do we need to be dead before we can defend ourselves, do we need to be an inch from death before defending ourselves? Where do you draw the line? Your evaluation of this shooting is a reason why there is a shortage of officers! They can’t do their jobs without someone analyzing the footage for hours to find every flaw they made or every "what if" action that he should have taken. This officer had seconds to decide seconds, not hours that you had to decide whether his or anyone else’s life was in danger.

Sorry – But plain and simple, I would have shot him too. No backup, a crazy man attacking me. I am a commited Christian and although I would hate to shoot someone, I would have done the same thing. Unfortunately, some people (like this poor man here), are so mentally gone, that you dont know what they will do. He could have been on meth and he was obviously suicidal. Once you physically attack a police officer, you cross the line. Romans 13: For he is God’s servant to do you good. But if you do wrong, be afraid, for he does not bear the sword for nothing. He is God’s servant, an agent of wrath to bring punishment on the wrongdoer.

This is 100% a legitimate question, and I’m not choosing one side or the other. If a legally armed individual was put in the same situation in a public space would this have been justified? I understand that law-enforcement has a duty not to retreat

Alpha Omega nailed it. The department should never let him go alone in a 51-50 call or ANY CALL. This is what can happen. And just cause the shift changes don’t mean the situations have changed!
