How do you determine gas tube and piston length on a new build? I am doing research on building a pistol and I can’t find any information at all about the different lengths of tubes and pistons and the minimum length of barrel they’ll be compatible with.

any tips on tightening up a loose gas tube? One of my first builds used a prepopulated md63 BFPU condition kit and the tube rattles a bit. It kinda suits the BFPU condition of the parts and I don’t want to move the rear sight block or gas block necessarily but I’m curious if there’s some way to reduce the rattle a bit.

Thanks! I had a Front End Conversion done on a Romanian, and the original gas tube is pretty loose now due to new head spacing/gas block placement. (Jmac barrel, gas block, etc) Fitting a new gas tube gave me a much better fit.

Thanks, I was struggling with a new surplus gas tube for my AMD63 (for a red dot mount). I had started filing but wasn’t sure if I was on the right path.

    Interesting indeed!

Question? If i am trying to fit my gas tube onto a new gas block front sight will I need a new gas tube since the gas block is not slanted like the stock gas block. Im not sure if there will be any different measurements between stock gas block and one that has a sight, like your second ak.

  9. Matt RP on December 6, 2021 at 8:26 pm

Zeke, whats your recommendation for a muzzle device for my 7.62 AK? I’m not interested in flash supression, only recoil reduction and muzzle climb.

  10. G III on December 6, 2021 at 8:26 pm

hey zeke, first and foremost i already subbed but to be honest im having a little bit of an issue with putting on a gas tube back on after a field strip on a ak63. it seems that the lip controlled by the lever keeps hitting the gas block slightly. any ideas? this was my first time taking it off

I am fitting a standard AK gas tube on a VEPR. Thanks for sharing the knowledge.

Constructive criticism.. files are directional.. the back and forth motion ruins files. Push forward, lift and push forward. I’m amazed at all the people that can build an AK yet have never been taught to correctly use a file.

Hi Sir , Can you show me how to replace the Gas Tube Lever ? Please help .

  14. Big Bad Jones on December 6, 2021 at 8:39 pm

    Awesome information man.

  15. Mr Williams on December 6, 2021 at 8:41 pm

Great info. Filed it and it fits great now thanks.

  16. Yves Torquest on December 6, 2021 at 8:44 pm

Zeke rocks!!!! Zeke, a lot of channels seem to have adopted this "5000 round torture of an AK" video format. Perhaps you could do a 5000 round torture video of one of your home-built rifles?? This would prove that with some diligence, a home builder can build a dependable rifle. I would donate 1000 rounds to the video. Let me know.

Thanks, I could not get the lock back down on my zastava m70.

  18. C company / on December 6, 2021 at 8:48 pm

Question, the rear sight block. Is it supposed to be pressed all the way to it stops at the front trunnion?

  19. one eyed Jack on December 6, 2021 at 8:55 pm

Thanks Zeke, I was struggling fitting a gas tube on my saiga conversion, you made it simple and easy

  20. RANGER DANGER on December 6, 2021 at 9:06 pm

been looking for lower handguard fit info, have a slr 107 and it was accurate, 1 1/2 at 100. Got a russian surplus stock set and accuracy went to hell. relieved some more and now getting about 3 inch with an occasional flier. So I must be on the right track. Retainer plate is cocked out at bottom a little (always was since new) 1st experience with stock fitting. any info would be great, Thanks

  21. Harrison Shreve on December 6, 2021 at 9:07 pm

Always the man with the info! I noticed you were able to turn your gas tube lever by hand, and was curious about that. I recently picked up a RH10 from 2014 for a stinking deal, and i noticed the gas tube lever was a tadddd bit to loose for my liking, it was able to slide back and forth in the trunion a wee bit. ball peen hammer and hammer behind it and it’s a bit more snug. But was curious as to your opinion on a loose gas tube lever and the importance of the lever. The ak’s loose tolerances make it the super reliable weapon it is, but eventually too loose can’t be a good thing?

  22. Daniel Laverty on December 6, 2021 at 9:07 pm

I’m truly amazed at how many people don’t know how to use a file. Imagine you go through them like toilet paper. They’re directional, you ruin files with the back and forth motion. Sounds critical in know, but it’s constructive criticism.
