Not sure I understand why that person drilled out his/her breech plug and got the blow-back?
If the breech plug was drilled out and there was a path for the flame, why then the blow-back?
Good video, thanks for taking the time to make this. Peace

I want to see more videos like this and suggested loads for your optima.

I wish this video was out years ago, I clean the plug well, but always see rust. Also after cleaning the barrel, within a month the barrel looks like I never touch it.

I have a CVA Wolf and I love the gun so much I’m going to be getting a Cascade in 22 250 in the future. CVA makes a fantastic product for the price point and I’m so tight I squeak when I walk. This is the first year since I purchased my Wolf in 2017 I haven’t taken a deer with it only because time was limited and no deer showed up. Keep doing what you do CVA.

Could you use hoppes to clean your plug?

How clean a cva don’t. Don’t buy the pos. Had a brand new one get rusted and pitted one week after owning it been kept on the box never wet. Cva polished it up to the bare metal looks terrible said they don’t cover rust. Terrible customer service couldn’t talk to real people or nothing.

Why would it not be possible to use the ( Proper sized ) drill bit to clean out the rusted shut breech plug ? Of course I can see the problem with drilling one out to a larger size.

I use a torch tip cleaning tool as well.

  11. Robb McCurdy on November 26, 2021 at 11:41 pm

Same procedure with the NW breech plug?

  12. Terry Chapman on November 26, 2021 at 11:43 pm

Need a breech plug to be able to clean it!😜

Still waiting for my prepaid Accura LRX 45 and Paramount 40.

Any idea if and when stock will be sent out to retailers?

  13. swmplvr on November 26, 2021 at 11:43 pm

LOL only thing I got from video was do not buy CVA the breech plugs are garbage !!

  14. Ulfhednar on November 26, 2021 at 11:43 pm

Glad to see CVA covering the basics…and wow, I cant believe someone could allow their plug to actually rust shut like that. Makes me wonder what some of the MZ rifles look like like that you get back in the warranty department.

Looks like I’m not the only one looking for out of stock parts. My hammer spur broke last year and I’ve yet to see it back in stock. SKU: 30379. Sucks trying to cock my hammer under the scope, even worse with gloves on…

  16. Timothy McKenna on November 26, 2021 at 11:47 pm

What is the name/brand/size of that tool you used to drill into the breech? Thanks

  17. Joe Hightower on November 26, 2021 at 11:47 pm

Hope you get the parts soaker in stock soon

Excellent information. It is so highly valuable to keep my CVA Optimum superbly clean for great hunting performance.

Is there anyway to shoot patch round ball out of a modern muzzleloader another words would have just not be accurate or would it blow up the gun

  20. C Price on November 26, 2021 at 11:50 pm

Its also a good practice to use a air nozzle to blow out the residue after cleaning

  21. John Warren on November 26, 2021 at 11:51 pm

Good video. Basics are key to consistency. I like these how-to vids, no matter how simple they are.

I have the older Optima with the hex head breech plug. Is the cleaning procedure similar?
