How to buy a firearm in Canada – A step-by-step process to obtain a permit
It takes a good 4-6 months to obtain a firearms licence in Canada. In this video I give a quick overview of the steps that a citizen needs to take to obtain a Possession & Acquisition Licence, otherwise known as a PAL.
Every few years politicians talk about increasing gun control in Canada. My opinion is that the current controls are very strict. Increasing gun control in Canada won’t do anything to reduce gun crime (which is already very low), since criminals, by definition, don’t abide by the law.
Feel free to provide comments. I hope to encourage a good debate. Ignorant comments won’t be tolerated, and will be deleted.

You dont need a gun club membership for a restricted in Ontario. You can always go to a club as a guest if you want to use it.
I’m pretty sure they have changed the rule on the gun club and having to be a competitor shooter. You only have to say if they call you and ask you why you want the restricted gun, and you have to say “target practice” at my local gun club. (I am in alberta as well)

Can you collect restricted antique handguns without belonging to a club? Belonging to a gun club seems incredibly onerous. I have no intention of shooting them, I just want to collect them.
I am an international student. I m looking for PAL but there is one doubt about a letter letter of good conduct. Do I need to obtain this from my local police department?

If you bought then gun for compition, but one day u actually get a home invasion and there is actual threat to your life. Are you allowed to use the guns (restricted or unrestricted) to defend yourself? Will u go to jail, say if they charge at u with a knife and u shot and killed them?

I am just an immigrant from a country where all guns were banned. After it all crime rates skyrocket what leads myself abandon my successful career and really good life and to immigrate to Canada seeking some peaceful life.
Now, because my entire homecountry is brainwashed against firearms I decided to fight back learning and being able to safely handle and use firearms not bending to the irrational fear.

Hi I just bought a restricted handgun from Target Sports here in Ontario Canada . When I bought it they said they would call me when I could come pick it up. So I figured they would handle everything. When I called to see if I could pick my restricted, they told me I had to wait for a transfer to come in the mail and that they no longer do them in the store is that correct? can any one clear this up for me ? Thanks.

Terrible horrible gun laws only hurt law abiding citizens and do nothing to stop criminals. Ive been in the process of getting my PAL for MONTHS now. I did the CFSC course in September, received 100% in the practical and theoretical portions of the exam (so clearly I know my shit and am a responsible gun owner), FINALLY got my documents and results in late October, IMMEDIATELY formed my application package and sent it to RCMP in tracked mail November 1st. And I’m still just waiting for it now… Apparently they just sit on the application for 2-4 months before even doing it. Insanity if you ask me. So perhaps I will get my licence by March 2021. DO NOT LET IDIOTS FOOL YOU INTO ACCEPTING GUN LAWS IN YOUR COUNTRY!!! DO NOT LET YOUR COUNTRY FAIL AS CANADA HAS!
Do you have to do an in person practice test in front of an examiner to get a gun or just an online written test is enough to register for PAL ?
Canada’s gun law is already quite strict and the society is generally much more law abiding than the neighbours down south. There’s currently no need to ban AR rifles. It won’t reduce crime or raise gun safety by banning AR rifles and yet allowing other semi-auto hunting rifles.

So I just now booked for the course for non-restricted and restricted firearms but I saw this video after and in one section you said they ask if you are divorced or going thru separation and I am going thru separation right now but haven’t been divorced yet. So my question is that is it even worth it to go for the course if you are going to get denied for the license? I still have time to cancel the course.

I lived in the US for years, freely, owned many guns. Now that I am back in Canada I have yet to buy a handgun. I was told that the FFL does the reg and transfer, but the buyer has to call the CFO to initiate the transfer.

I think the concern is rising gun violence. People- especially in cities- are really scared of becoming the US where it seems like there’s a shooting every other week. Guns are terrifying, in that they are tools meant to kill. To a population who is uninformed, it can seem like keeping a deadly snake as a pet. Sure you can do it responsibly but if it goes wrong it’s a tragedy. (Just playing devils advocate here)
