FTP Optics Alpha 3 – Basically a Sig Sauer Romeo 3 Max for about half the price

FTP Optics Alpha 3 – About half the cost of a Romeo 3 MAX and basically the same
Today we’re looking at the FTP Optics Alpha 3. This optic is made in the same factory as the Sig Sauer Romeo 3 MAX and Sig Sauer Romeo 3 XL. The performance has been pretty strong!

If it came with an optic plate too. I would consider it over the trijicon sro. I can get an sro for 425 from my local gun shop.

Sig and Vortex offer a lifetime Warranty. FTP warranty is only 30 days

  3. My hobbies on July 16, 2023 at 5:46 am

What would be the points that you like in the sro over this ?

  4. Mitchell Hoff on July 16, 2023 at 5:47 am

I care more about warranty than brand. I shoot a pair of. Vortex Razors on my P10F s after essentially being told to get bent by C-More after my RTS2 went down.

  5. Travis Powell on July 16, 2023 at 5:47 am

Yes. I would buy one. Sounds like a quality piece and a good price.

  6. BentAero on July 16, 2023 at 5:49 am

    A few questions:
    1) What happened to the Alpha 2 with the rounded top? (I like it better)
    2) The specs listed on the website list the lens size as 26×21.5, which is considerably smaller than a Romeo-3-Max. Is this wrong or a difference in interpretation? Sig claims a 30mm lens…
    4) Can you post a video or photo of a rear lens view of a Romeo-3-Max and the Alpha-3 side-by-side? I’d love to see the size comparison.
An observation: On the contact page of the FTP site it reads "North Dakota, United States." No street address, no City, no Zip Code… That doesn’t exactly give me a warm fuzzy for warranty coverage… 😉

  7. Rob Kosack on July 16, 2023 at 5:49 am

Pricing appears to have spiked up to the going rate of the Sig Romeoxl or Max now. So no longer a cost saving option, but have you compared it directly to the Sig in use?

  8. Paul Querin on July 16, 2023 at 5:51 am

If it has better features and is robust enough for competition (nothing like sage dynamics red dot testing), I’ll consider switching from the Romeo1!

  9. Ninja Dad on July 16, 2023 at 5:52 am

Tried your code and it did not not work

  10. Sicnarf Outdoors on July 16, 2023 at 5:52 am

Did you buy mount plate or you use mount plate that comes with the glock moa? Thanks

  11. Wyrlo Villaluna on July 16, 2023 at 5:53 am

Hi!just wondering where i can buy the plates you used on the glock mos for the FTP alpha 3?thank you

  12. JScobes on July 16, 2023 at 5:53 am

Alpha 2 vs Alpha 3…what’s the difference?

  13. Bill Stevens on July 16, 2023 at 5:54 am

    These are made in Japan?

  14. David Franklin on July 16, 2023 at 5:58 am

You did not say anything about a warranty I would say that is one of the biggest factors

  15. Jeff W on July 16, 2023 at 5:58 am

Cool optic option. What is the footprint / hole pattern? RTS2 ? Price is good if the warranty is solid and they stand behind it.

  16. Vanniek 71 on July 16, 2023 at 5:59 am

Still using this optic? How is it performing over a year later?

  17. Daniel Lilienberg on July 16, 2023 at 6:00 am

This is my 2nd year with this sight (IPSC). I create alu and titanium mounts for these sights for those who need it.

  18. George Kuzyk on July 16, 2023 at 6:00 am

Thanks for the quick reply. Do you have the web site info on this optic that you can provide to us. I would like to check it out further. Thanks Again.

  19. Justin Young on July 16, 2023 at 6:03 am

I’d definitely save money and use an off brand, especially if they use the same factory as DPP and Sig

  20. Nick Walden on July 16, 2023 at 6:03 am

Just curious on an update. Have you been able to get out and test this optic some more (approximate round count?) Trying to decide on the Alpha 3, Romeo3 Max, or SRO for my shadow 2 carry optics backup gun. Currently running a Deltapoint pro. Would like to get more feedback before having to send the slide out for milling. Any info would be much appreciated.

  21. Hayrolled1 on July 16, 2023 at 6:04 am

I am strongly considering this, because I was looking at a Romeo. Do you know if we have a little while before this deal expires?

  22. Cogan's Adventures on July 16, 2023 at 6:09 am

Maybe I’d bite for like 275$ but at 350$ that’s DPP price

  23. Backwoods Tactical on July 16, 2023 at 6:11 am

I know there’s probably no way you will respond to this since the vid is so old, but I just wanted to thank you for this review. By far the best optic I’ve used for Carry Optics! Thank you!

  24. nomikes on July 16, 2023 at 6:12 am

How about a direct comparison with the Holosuns?

  25. lazerrred on July 16, 2023 at 6:14 am

Darn right I would use it. I’m not the must have well known branding kinda guy. That said, it has to work as intended, and if it does the price will creep up. For example Holosun. Use to get the, I believe a 403 for little less than 100 bucks with AR height pic rail mount. Now the they are twice that. I’m glad I bought 403’s and ACCS 503’s in quantity when I did years ago when I was ahead of the curve. Now I’m behind the curve and I definitely will check them out but I believe I bought a Holosun 507 for less than this dot, or it was close. I’m using the 507 on a CzP10c and not my Shadow2, so that should tell ya how much I’m into pistol dots at this time, but times are changing as is the price of admission. 😤

  26. Victor Carter on July 16, 2023 at 6:15 am

Is there a red dot option you would recommend for a marlin 336 30-30

  27. Ninja Dad on July 16, 2023 at 6:15 am

Would you replace your sro with this?

  28. TheAsh377 on July 16, 2023 at 6:15 am

I wonder how this would compare to something like the holosun 507C-V2, interesting and nice video!

  29. Nicholas T on July 16, 2023 at 6:15 am

What distance do you zero at?

  30. George Kuzyk on July 16, 2023 at 6:16 am

Great video yes I would be open to using a optic other than the most popular brands out there. What is their warranty on the optic and what does it cover. If you buy it and not satisfied with it what is their return policy. Keep up the well informed videos always look forward to another new one.

  31. The Brass Brigade on July 16, 2023 at 6:16 am

Are use a vortex Viper so I would love to have that one! LOL

  32. chgofirefighter on July 16, 2023 at 6:17 am

Japan makes "EXCELLENT" glass!~ Many high-end optics use Japanese glass, go figure! Excellent review, I am waiting for my open to finally be built and shipped after 6 months waiting period. Been debating between the RTS2, Trijicon SRO and now this is a nice addition. The only issue is that is not a proven name in the competitive shooting sport game, but only time will tell… $300 isn’t that much to begin with 🙂

  33. Eli G on July 16, 2023 at 6:19 am

Any update on how this optic is holding up ? Great review

  34. M H on July 16, 2023 at 6:19 am

Hi, can you let me know what mounting plate you used on the Glock MOS for the FTP Alpha 3. I have the Plates that come with the Gen 5 Glock 17 but they are way too thin to mount the Alpha 3. The Alpha 3 is longer than the slide optic cut out, so the mounting plate needs to be thick enough to be level with the top of the slide. The mount you used looks like it does the trick perfectly, just need to know where I can get it. Thank you.

  35. _Suburban_ on July 16, 2023 at 6:22 am

I’d probably be interested in trying one if there was a model with an RMR footprint, but I don’t really want to invest in getting a slide cut specifically for the Sig/Alpha optics.

  36. Darin Glisson on July 16, 2023 at 6:23 am

I’m a thrifty person, so I have no problem buying a no name or lesser know. Brand if it does what it’s supposed to.

  37. Todd Koffler on July 16, 2023 at 6:23 am

A year later…. I’m very happy with mine! Running mine on a open gun.

  38. Bulldog0921 on July 16, 2023 at 6:24 am

Is SRO your favorite for competition?

  39. Old Veteran on July 16, 2023 at 6:25 am

I got to wondering why you prefer a dim dot when zeroing? I recently purchased a Holosun 508t and in the process of zeroing it.

  40. alexp1tx on July 16, 2023 at 6:26 am

At what distance did you sight it in.

  41. Nick Walden on July 16, 2023 at 6:27 am

I’ve shot with the owner at a match. Seems like a really good guy and a great shooter. I think he was mainly looking for a better option for himself rather than just as a way to make money off this product. I think Time will tell how these things hold up and how the warranty process goes. If they are able to compete with the bigger companies in that department, they’re going to be a huge hit in USPSA!

  42. Mark N on July 16, 2023 at 6:30 am

Is there anyway I can use this alpha 3 on a slide with RMR cut?? If so who makes them? Thank u 🤙🏻

  43. John Lincoln on July 16, 2023 at 6:31 am

I’ve been using one from FTP on my Walther Q5SF since Aug. 2019. I had to mill the front of the Walther cut a smidge to have enough length but that was minor. I’ve been very happy with it. 8 MOA and a nice easy to find dot when the battery isn’t dying like it was at my last match on the first stage. New battery and right back to normal for the rest of the match. My bad.

  44. B Fish on July 16, 2023 at 6:33 am

You don’t like the circle dot reticle? That seems to work best for me. I really like the 507c, I like the swampfox too but the glass is smaller so it’s less ideal.

  45. Noel Miller on July 16, 2023 at 6:33 am

30 day warrentee has me hesitant

  46. Joshua Bruce on July 16, 2023 at 6:34 am

Was thinking about one till i heard the hr rating. Youch. Wonder why its so low? I can’t remember, did it take the smaller 1632 batt? I wouldnt mind getting into competitive shooting tho. I dont know if can justify spending even more on guns n shit to the wife.

  47. Steve Sweeney on July 16, 2023 at 6:35 am

I tend to spend more on proven tech with name brands. Wish I could research and experiment but I am im no position to Gamble. I like to buy once and be satisfied. The more I research it is apparent that the classic Ford vs Chevy battle begins. If you practice with something enough you will improve no matter. Thank you for all your videos Very thorough and Professional. I really learn alot from them.

  48. Jason Clark on July 16, 2023 at 6:38 am

Cool looking "little" optic. I’d absolutely gamble on a feature rich optic… if it used a different footprint and wasn’t nearly $400. Gamble range would be more like $250-300… especially when you have no idea what type of warranty support you’re dealing with on an unknown brand.

  49. Jay Townsend on July 16, 2023 at 6:39 am

If it had a Romeo 1 Pro foot print it would be a great Dot, but I shoot the X5 Legion and don’t want a plate. I did the plate thing in the early CO days and don’t want to go back in time. ALL RDS manufacturers need to get on board with one foot print across the industry

How does Dillon stay in business if there are no primers?
