Completed Rifle Build – The Real Gunsmith
Completed Rifle Build – The Real Gunsmith
Randy shows us his latest rifle build for one of his clients, chambered in 257 Roberts with a hand-carved maple stock. The stock on this rifle was featured in an earlier video where Randy spends a half hour or so demonstrating how he shapes the blank into a rifle stock which you can see here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkMIVn8xU6g

Absolutely beautiful. You do fantastic work sir.
Wow!
I think it is time to build my first Custom Rifle. Thank You Randy!
Very Beautiful, Finished Tool!
20 thumbs Up, to compensate for the 3 thumbs down. I’d like to see them end up with such a nice piece with their 6 minute attention span.
Blessings! Hawk.
Randy you are an artist that is a beautiful rifle.
Resplendent 👌🏾
I really like that rifle, and the cartridge it is chambered for. Beautiful work Sir.

Beautiful job
Magnificent!!!
Wow beautiful rifle
Holy Moly I watched this video and almost fell off my couch. I happen to have almost the identical rifle in my safe. I built it on a Yugo 48 Mauser in 257 Roberts, Ebony Fore end cap, same sling mounts, same wood though yours is a little more figured. I added a barrel sling mount and rust blued my barrel and action. I noticed you added a Winchester safety as I did also. Finished mine in a high gloss with Tru-Wood poly finish. It is a beautiful shooter and looker. My barrel was bored and rifled by a friend here in Prescott, AZ. This rifle as yours is all hand done except the stock was shaped on a duplicator. Great to see a fellow craftsman who appreciates the nature and warmth of wood on a rifle. Aim small shoot small! I really had to check my safe this morning……..(>:
Enough for a couple just have to figure witch calibers
What a beautiful work of art! I love the way wood stocks look and feel.
How many rifles do you build a year?
Brilliant work Randy, you are a master of your craft no doubt about it.
now thats talent, skill, art ,just beautiful very very nice !
Absolutely gorgeous.
Everything else equal, what would be the increase in cost to have a sendero weight barrel in an octagon pattern?
Beautiful rifle sir
I would love something like this for my 35 whelen I’m putting together, but a snabul front end and no tiger stripes.
thats art, what a master piece…..very nice.
Beautiful work I wonder if he has built or builds left handed models. The craftsmanship is remarkable. A true artist .
That’s a work of art. Beautiful
You are a gifted artist, sir. Beautiful!
A work of art!
THAT IS JUST LIKE I WOULD LIKE FOR MY 303 TO LOOK TONY KENNEDY
Very nice work good to see real craftmanship
How much does he charge on average for a custom rifle
Now that is a beautiful rifle
What bottom metal did you use on that FN Mauser, I am also building one and it will be a 257 Roberts!
Very beautiful have you ever worked with Osage orange?
She sexy then my future wife just don’t tell her I said that
Congrats to the owner of that fine rifle. That is a jewel.
Very Nice! I inherited FN Mauser sportorized I believe from the early 50’s from my now passed on Dad – This rifle is chambered in 270 win. W/ an old school Redfield peep sight – Never have got around vto shooting it has been sitting in gun cabinet for many years – The Walnut stock is somewhat ruff condition – I bet it would be a Good candidate for a restock & maybe some work to make it shoot right – One thing it has that original style sharp safety & someone told me possible to install modern 3 way – I done got long winded here – Very Nice work Sir & Thanks for making Video- jack
A real beauty!
How long does it take to make a stock like that? Nice job by the way..
Beautiful work- I love those striped maple stocks. Winchester not long ago came out with a Tiger striped super grade maple that looks great. But looks aren’t everything these days regarding Winchester. From now on I will only go custom(maybe one more factory deluxe). I despise the lower quality in materials production gun makers are using – even Deluxe Factory rifles. I bought a Steyr Mannlicher Classic in 30-06 in the 90’s. Fine rifle for sure, but doesn’t come close to the Mannlicher Schonauer Model 1956 my grandfather gave me. Heck the action on my Mitchell’s Mauser is as good as actions of some Deluxe factory rifles made today. I will probably get a Sako 85 (walnut stock), but after that it is custom or semi custom for me. My Kimber 8400 Super America’s bolt is hard to open after firing and their service was unsatisfactory cause it is still hard to open after firing. I don’t think they polished chamber and lapped lugs- as I asked them to consider- and their have been scrape marks at base of rim on cases(maybe it’s an ejector/truing issue). Certainly they are more concerned about liability. My Browning A bolt Titanium doesn’t impress me either(composite sleeve on bolt was eh). And my Rem 700 laminate stainless is ok(although I got lucky with it’s accuracy). The hit or miss factor doesn’t work for me any more. I’d rather pay more for custom. That’s how I discovered Randy Selby’s videos (that I can’t stop watching by the way). It was in my pursuit to research the best custom rifle makers in the country. Some one in Pennsylvania mentioned Mr. Selby and I heard a couple guys in Florida talking about Selby rifles. Years ago in the early 80’s, hunting in the Adirondacks, I remember hearing the name Randy Selby. Mr. Selby’s name obviously gets around up and down the east coast . It must be for a good reason. If you can afford custom then go for it. Sorry for the lengthy comment but wanted to give some depth from my first hand experiences.
I’m speechless looking at this beauty! I want to order something like this!
That is a beautiful rifle very well done !!
I’m building a stock currently for a .50 cal CVA express double rifle set of barrels and making my own locks for it aswell, So I can really appreciate this craftsmanship, the inletting alone is a challenge and it can all be fixed up with good bedding compounds. Very impressive work.
That’s a beautiful rifle.
You truly are the real gunsmith..not only are you very highly skilled..you kept the passion, and the pride in what you do throughout your career..for that, i respect you a great deal
That is one fine work of art. And the .257 Roberts chambering makes it doubly classic. For the ages. Hopefully it will still be harvesting big bucks 100 years later.
I’m going to school for gunsmithing. And checkering scares me. I’ve done it but scared to do it and mess up and have to re do it. But I’m gonna practice on my Remington 1100 that I’ve sanded the factory stamped checkering. I’m currently on the 25 coat of oil and these pores just won’t fill but it’s looking gorgeous so far.
Fantastic job sir you are a true Gunsmith, many I know could learn much from you.
WOW!! Much more than a rifle…it’s a work of art. This man’s ability to build rifles is a perfect example of what it means to have a God given gift. Great work sir! I would love to have rifle made just like that in 7mm Rem mag on an Interarms Mauser 7 mag that was left to me by my dad. How long does it take? Thank you!
