Are zoom optics necessary or so very desirable? If you buy a lens with a fixed focal length then you have fewer pieces of glass (elements) to move as the only change needed is to alter focus. A simpler design equals a lower cost or alternatively you can spend any potential saving on higher quality glass and zeroing control. I have a top end Canon camera and zoom lenses for it are expensive, large and heavy. Fixed focal length lenses are much cheaper, smaller, lighter and often of higher quality. It seems to me that if you are prepared to use a telescopic site set at a fixed focal length you should be able to get high quality at a reasonable price and still be better equipped than a mark 1 eyeball alone.
Obviously when using a telescopic site you want to see your target clearly but if you are only shooting at say ranges between 10 – 30 m. then I would have thought that a fixed focal length could be adequate for many people. I do appreciate that many people use their airguns over a much greater variety of distances and for them a zoom site is desirable.
I know almost nothing about the range of telescopic sites available on the market but I would appreciate any thoughts on this subject.

I have available scope for sale..

Nice informative & professional review Andy. I’ve made the mistakes you highlighted in my past purchases. Thanks to you I won’t be doing it again. Gonna buy a Vector when my beloved Air Arms Pro sport arrives.
Brick?
Very gd talk .

What do you think of the Hawke fastmount 6-24×50 AO. I’ve got one and it seems decent to me
Is veyron suitable for magnum springers (with Diana’s ZR mount)? Thanks.
You are sooooo nice to watch. Your voice and the way you express yourself is very entertaining. I very like to learn stuff from you. A lot more than most Youtuber. The editing is also nice with little close-up and lower voice insertions etc.. I appreciate all from your channel as a noob in Air Guns for Self Defense. Cheers with a big pint, from Canada!
Discovery is I think the same scope for less.
Hi andy! I’m looking for recommendations for a small compact scope for my bsa clx, what would you recommend mate! Cheers!
Hi Chap reason for my last post was on your recommendation i bought a Hawke
Merchandise available from http://www.aar-OnAir.com
Vector Optics scopes available from http://www.vector-air.co.uk
PLEASE NOTE..Vector Optics are not owned by Vector Air, the names are purely coincidental. Vector optics were used in this review as opposed to any other company, because these were available at the time of filming. Any mention of a company or supplier is not a paid promotion, but simply a recognition of thanks. That said, people will still jump to their own conclusions.
Hello there, dutchie here, I recently picked up a weihrauch hw97k with a nikko stirling 4-12×50 scope on top. I am most satisfied with the performance of the rifle but this video made me doubt the scope I’m using. Has anyone got experience with the one I mentioned perhaps. Great video by the way keep it up.
You should review a Westhunter scope ;0) really good quality for a good price
New to air weapons and I’ve just bought a remington sabre th for £200. Does this info still apply or what’s the most you would spend on a scope for a rifle at this price point? Thanks.
Hello, how about the konus pro scopes? I have a 3-9×40 konus pro, and the konus pro 550 3-9×40. Are they bad, regular, decent or good scopes?
Hi chap just woundering why on your first review of budget scopes you as in your words gushed about the hawke vantage and now you have the space at vector you have totaly ignored them
Hi Andy
Do they run with the Pard 007?
Thanks
arrogantje
New to air guns, have a sub 12ft/Lb springer. Just wondering what scope would you recommend for it?
Great review. The hawke scope are Nice too
Hi Andy, I bought the Vector Veyron 6×24 ffp. All the lads at the range can’t believe how good it is. Definitely worth the money
Good advice .. Thanks
I have always found UTG/Leapers scopes to be quality beyond what you pay. Good for people looking for a budget friendly scope.
Pretty good review overall. I don’t tell what I use. I don’t spend big on scopes as today’s tech you don’t have to overspend. They do cost around 175. Never needed to spend big. Just my experience and opinion.
dude check out some top of the range hawke scopes and where there made…..kung flu mate
How long did the vector check take to clear? Lol
Just joined a gun club,
Got some advice on scopes.
Spend your money on a scope and what change you have left get a gun.
Great review!
Is it any downside put the ZOS scope if you’re shooting 25 to a 100?
Thank you !
Gamo 3-9×40 or bsa outlook 3-9x40ao or hawke vantage 3-9×50 wich one should i get for my hatsan edge 1000fps, none of them are IR,
The problem with this is most people shoot hawke or mtc scopes, and this video gives me no idea where they are on the Andy scale..
While I hold no love for zos scopes I can confirm It is an etched glass reticle, you can even see the brake on your video especially when illuminated. Cheaply etched reticles obviously display quality relative budget but when you claim it isn’t etched it seems like you are trying too hard to display short comings
Great channel. You are a very talented presenter, makes it very engaging. Thank you
How about a red dot sight
i am looking for a good scope for my marauder woods walker. i want to shoot it as a pistol. that is what i bought it for. any suggestions? thank you.
On this reccomendation I replaced my scope with the Veyron 6-24 44. The scope is excellent for my needs however I have had to shim the rear mount by 1.5mm. I’m a relstive newcomer to this sport and wondered if this was normal. It seems a bit excessive to me. the crappy scope it replaced needed no shimming at all. Any advice would be welcome
The only problem with the 120y was rust. Hence Datsun became Nissan. Trying to shake the association with ginger.
How do you make copper wire? Put two Scoots-man into a room and through in a penny.
I have a Zos that was given to me by a Friend. There is Nothing wrong with it. At all..
I used Hawke and luepold . I also have bushnell original and a
Also you can loosen the Allen screws on the focus wheel and adjust it to suit your individual eye
We here this a lot but let’s be fair a £400 scope is going to be better than a £100 scope but I get that unless your shooting a good pcp you probably won’t need to spend that much. But of course the bigger price the better really.
it took me 15min to find out that the background isn’t real lol
Hey Moustache can you add links in your videos to the product? Just saying makes it easier when going to buy from a great review… PS you made me buy the BSA R10th walnut of course and become a subscriber. Good Job!
Most modern airguns, both PCPS and Springers are more accurate than the man behind the stock. The limiting factor to accuracy in my experience is down to quality of scope. It’s seems ridiculous to me to spend 700 or 800 on the rifle and then 100 on the scope. It’s a false economy which makes no sense to me. As such, it’s better to save up and buy a quality scope than compromise and settle for a lower quality scope…..
This review made me laugh because I was caught out by the so called "budget scopes", both with the fixed objective and AO versions.
Yes, it irritated me when I realized my mistake at the time (which was long before I found this vid);
Yes, the fixed objective ones definitely stung when I learned enough to realize my error, but I learned from it and hope my future investments are less annoying.
Surprisingly enough, I don’t mind the budget adjustable objective scope; it only cost about £60, but since the gun its now attached to is a comparitively cheap, yet functional airgun, I saw no reason to spend out on a more expensive scope; it works well enough with that particular airgun for plinking, target shooting and dealing with the odd unwelcome visitor (rodents).
In that particular example, the combination works and doesn’t need to be upgraded.
I agree with you regarding fitting scopes to higher quality airguns, however, and I will be investing in a higher quality scope for my main hunting airgun which, while not the most expensive tool available, has more than proved itself during the time I’ve owned it 🙂
