Best AR10 Option: S&W M&P10 OR 308 Review

Best AR10 Option: S&W M&P10 OR 308 Review

I am often asked to recommend which firearm of a certain category I would suggest and much of my answer depends on the intended use. When it come to semi-automatic large caliber rifles (traditionally chambered in 308 Winchester), I recommend Smith & Wesson M&P 10 Sport Optics Ready. The S&W M&P AR 10 is accurate, reliable, light weight, and low cost.

Any issues installing the trigger due to the ambi controls?

I never thought I would like a AR10 for accuracy when I have been shooting bolt rifles with my handloads for decades and use to sub 0.5 MOA groups. But I decided to try the S&W performance center AR10 in 6.5 CM that will shoot .75 – 1.0 MOA all day with factory Hornady match ammo. It came with a 2-stage precision match trigger and threaded muzzle, I added a muzzle brake and changed the stock to a Magpul PRS GEN3. I have stretched it out to 1200 meters with no issues.

I’m getting a sw mp10 sport also, would you recommend a single or two sausage trigger?

I bought my wife an mp15 sport 2 for about 500 when the market was good. I knew it wouldn’t be used much so I wasn’t going to buy her a kac.

She started to shoot it more and more and also became the neighborhood bicycle when friends came over. I started to change parts left and right upgrading it because everyone told me it wasn’t fair that I was running a $3500 AR. Now, between sionics np3 bcg, A5 buffer system, barrel after about 15k rounds (maybe centurion, can’t remember) and furniture, I have a $1500+ mp15.

What I’m trying to say is if everything works just upgrade the trigger or whatever parts you feel like need to be changed to better suit you. For this m&p10, seems like it’s just the trigger

    Which optic is this?

    Hello,

Very good video, I have a question to ask you, in terms of ar15 the s&w are bad side, twist 1/9 etc.
But ar10 is what it is reliable robust and accurate, there are diamonback DB10 in 13 inch, fn10, Daniel defense the reference and many other brands?
Apart from the big brands because the prices are more expensive, the diamonback DB10 is also good for the interesting price?

    Think you very much.

    Best regards.

I’m thinking of picking one up with the $100 rebate right now

Only bad thing is that Smith and Wesson AR10 has proprietary BCG which isn’t something you want in a SHTF scenario cause you’ll be SOL if that proprietary BCG goes out.

I’m glad you had a good experience with your M&P-10. I had the Magpul version and it was a DOG! It was very inaccurate and the had ejection issues. It went back to S&W twice and the didn’t fix it so it got to be someone else’s problem.

I have the original 18 inch version. I am looking to free float the barrel. Other than that I really think it is a fantastic shooting rifle.

Got a 12.5 heavy barrel pinned. For 700$ not including red dot and flip ups. It works for bearing hunting. I shot it once in the blind with no ears on. I am a lefty so I like the ambi magazine releases. I found buying 2 safeties works for my south paw. So can get 2 stubby selectors and set the one on right side 180* out. I don’t like the ergo grips. Rather have extra trigger finger reach for bolt catch and mag release.

Quick question. I’ve heard standard ar triggers work in the ar-10 is that true? Does the spring have enough force to strike the primer like it should.

I have the same weapon and it came with ammo. The ammo given worked really well but no box to identify what manufacturer. So I started using various ammo and it jammed every time. Can you tell me whats been working for you?

My weapon of choice right there <3

  16. Scott Milam on July 12, 2023 at 6:08 am

    I own the 18” version.
    If you hand load…..
I got incredible accuracy (a penny covers the 5 shot group) with 130gr Barnes TTSX with Varget. Avg 2850fps.
    Will be great on deer.
    If you supress this rifle
You will likely need an adjustable gas block.
Thank you for making this video. Very enjoyable. Well done Sir.

I just knew M&P would do this, considering the excitement following the Ruger SFAR. This is the first I am hearing about it. *Edit I see this came out long before the new Ruger 7.62* Maybe their platforms aren’t so identical.

Another great option is psa ar 10, with the gieselle trigger that comes with it, it shoot very impressive groups even with the cheap steel case ammo

Hell yeah, glad to see a good review video on this rifle. I purchased it and happy with my buy. I just need to buy a good optic. I was given a leapers scope for free as a gift for the rifle. Can’t wait to shoot it

Are you on any other social platforms, would like to see more on the M&P10 to get some more ideas on this rifle. This goes for anyone else who owns the M&P 10 with 16"BARREL..

  21. Mickey Sizemore on July 12, 2023 at 6:21 am

It may be great, but why is the guy shooting it holding it like a ghetto gangster with the magazine off to the side?

  22. Adam Cox on July 12, 2023 at 6:21 am

Get rid of that crappy handguard w free floating barrel
