Today we take a look at 4 different ambidextrous charging handles. We feature Aero Precision, Radian Raptor, Geissele and Palmetto State Armory charging handles. We show you features of each one and even show you how each one functions in a rifle.

The Geissele is great, and has by far the best mitigation of gasses, especially while suppressed. The Radian is a really nice design, they just don’t have the shelf or wall in the rear that seals around the receiver and redirects gasses, so while they look and feel good and are built well, the Geissele just wins. However, Aero just last week released the Breach which is more of a premium charging handle similar to Geissele and Radian. It was only in stock for a few hours but I got one on the way. It seems like it may be a winner as well. The only downside of the Geissele is the handles are a little sharp at the ends. The new Aero Breach is shaped a little smoother but it does include similar gas mitigation shelf to the Geissele, so it will surely outperform the Radian and may be a little more comfortable than the Geissele. Or simply just another good option.

I have the Aero ambi and it’s not bad. Found it fairly easy to rack the bolt on left or right side. I typically am pulling the handle back by the flip out tabs. I found the anodizing on this handle to be superb and still hasn’t worn off. I just picked up a Vltor Mod3 for $41 and it’s not Ambi but I’ve always wanted the BCM gunfighter and since it’s no longer available I just went with slightly different but same Vltor version.
The aero precision breach charging handle is better and this one here looks like a dragonfly to me.
I like the strike industries extended also.
Am I the only one that thinks the Blackhawk No-Latch Ambidextrous Charging Handle does not get enough love? It is a great more budget friendly option.

These are the things people get wrong daily where I work.
I am currently looking into upgrading charging handles on a couple guns and this totally helped me decide. I’m gunna order some PSA chargers… if I can find any…
Geissele Airborne.
You pronounced GUISE-LEE correctly. Geissele is the best in my option, especially the Airbourne or Government model that has smaller handles so the handles don’t get hung up on gear. It also has the lip on the back which helps A LOT for when shooting suppressed to not get so much gas in the face. The Aero handle sucks, and any CH with similar handles sucks because you can get your finger pinched if your skin gets in between the latch and handle area. That can’t happen with a Geissele or Raptor due to the latch/handle design.
Radian 100%
This was incredibly helpful. I bought a radian raptor, because I have an ACOG that overhangs the charging handle making it impossible to get my hand in to pull the mil-spec one. Even with the Radian, it’s so stiff, I struggle to quickly charge the rifle. I think I’m going to switch over to Geissele after seeing the shape, size, and smoothness of the action. I also considered the BCM Gunfighter 3, but I don’t think I can go wrong with Geissele here. Thanks!
The BA Warhammer is by far the best value for the money. Just as good if not better than my Geisselle charging handle and it only cost $50 on primary arms and less on brownells.
Do charging handles differ on design depending on whether the AR is a gas-piston or direct-impingement??

The Aero is extremely similar in design and basically identical in functionality to the BCM Ambi charging handle. After severely pinching my finger in the handle during a double feed issue I decided the design is absolutely terrible and can assume the same flaw exists in the aero design.
I just bought a Aero…a bit pricey but I do like it on my 6.5cm because of the scope I have on it, but I also have Radian Raptor on my 308 which is very nice.

Here you want to do a real test, go over to Iraq get into a couple weeks and fire fights and test out each one you’ll see which one works the best under stress.

The PSA is really an Armaspec Victory CH with the Palmetto logo on it. Armaspec makes good ish. It may appear bulkier, but dimensionally it’s the same as the Radian (at least thickness and width, obviously they’re shaped differently).

I think aero was more going for the single side with index and thumb style of charging compared to the original style or hook method shown
