What’s Behind The Ammo Shortage In The US? – President of Major Ammo Company Nosler Explains

Manufacturers are working non-stop to satisfy the increased demand for ammo. The shortage can be accredited to a number of factors.

For starters, there have been over eight million new gun owners within the past year.

In addition, there have been one million-plus new hunters that have entered the market.

Typical consumer behavior is buying in bulk when things get scarce which is why if you see three boxes on the shelf now, you would just buy all three when normally you would have bought just one.

More importantly, these new shooters and new hunters are actively participating.

The combination of new gun owners and existing gun owners has made products extremely scarce.

Other factors for the ammunition shortage include trying to disperse ammunition to everyone including independent dealers, retailers because if they have nothing to sell they won’t be in business. This includes allocating to the military and international deals.

Suppliers are actively making sure they keep the same quality standard they have had as a brand while trying to massively increase infrastructure, manpower, and running 24 hours.

I don’t believe that it’s due to people just buying it. Gunpowder for all different burn rates hasn’t been on the shelves for nearly a year. Stores around me and ones I see online aren’t even getting shipments in anymore.

  2. Paula Tudor on December 3, 2021 at 9:07 pm

    Stay with the quality

  3. Bill Morell on December 3, 2021 at 9:09 pm

I watched the video, thank you for explaining what going on i now understand what going on

  4. Stan Holloway on December 3, 2021 at 9:09 pm

Yep, and we left like 20 million rounds for the Taliban. So they’re trying to resupply the military.

  5. Michael DelRossi on December 3, 2021 at 9:10 pm

A Gun is just a paperweight without ammunition! In New Jersey it’s just about impossible to find ammo anywhere? Really a bizarre situation! Since Mr. Potato Head has been in Office we now have 10 million new shooters!

  6. Michael McLees on December 3, 2021 at 9:12 pm

"We’re asking everyone to be patient…"

6 months later – Ammo is even harder to find than when they made the video.

  7. John Pickett on December 3, 2021 at 9:13 pm

    Calling bullshit….

  8. OpenCarryUSMC on December 3, 2021 at 9:14 pm

    Yup……supply and demand.
Obama and now Biden…….. selling more guns and ammo than any time in history.
I stopped counting at 17,000 rounds and that was over a decade ago.

  9. Jonathan Aguilera on December 3, 2021 at 9:14 pm

    Just commenting for the algorithm

  10. Russ on December 3, 2021 at 9:15 pm

if only everyone would stop shooting for 6 months and see if they can catch up to the demand.

  12. Wayne Castleman on December 3, 2021 at 9:17 pm

Well I’m see people coming into the range shooting 500 rounds of 9mm and the customer coming in next shoots 100 rounds Lol .. I mean I qualified at 100% with a NRA instructor using one box. Now I have to buy defense loads that are more expensive and at least 2 or 3 boxes in 9mm and 45 , 00buck is getting rediculous also. At these prices I’m not shooting 500 rounds a month .

  13. Christopher Pearson on December 3, 2021 at 9:18 pm

It seems like the ammunition isn’t even getting to the shelves. I’m referring to just hunting ammo..IE.. .270, .243 7mm mag…It sermd like some of the manufacturers have quit making it. Especially, Nosler. And, that’s the one I prefer when it comes to bullets. I really didn’t want to have to start using another brand.

  14. WordfromtheSewer ThaGobliiinradio on December 3, 2021 at 9:19 pm

October 2021 : still barely any ammo. All ammo is too damn expensive

  15. Dan on December 3, 2021 at 9:19 pm

If you idiots could just say "NO" to overpriced ammo … and it sits on John Noslers "flow shelves" for a few months …. supply and prices will go back to what they were.

Quit being suckers for supply and demand lies. John just gave the best side step shuffle pitch I’ve ever heard. If manufacturers are making 2 times the profit on sales that max out their capacity .. what incentive do they have to go back to less profit for the same work?

Covid is the corporate excuse. Not the reason.

  16. GreyBeard 19kilo on December 3, 2021 at 9:20 pm

Yeah I’m not buying into it. I see brands I’ve never heard of and dont see some brand lines at all anymore. The price hike is absolutely ridiculous. These people are not your friends at the end of the day. Last ammo haul was at the beginning of the pandemic and have basically refused to purchase anymore. Haven’t been shooting nowhere near as much because of it which really blows!!! I think I’m depressed at this point!!!!

  17. Jimmy Soups on December 3, 2021 at 9:20 pm

Is it just me or was this guy gearing up to run for office with his evasion speak?

  18. NoNegotiations on December 3, 2021 at 9:21 pm

IT WILL NEVER GO BACK TO THE PRICE IT WAS. People will buy anything once it gets available and shops will price gouge whenever chance they get.

  19. G Solutions on December 3, 2021 at 9:22 pm

At 4:00 he explains they have international business. Which means other countries are buying the ammunition from him also, countries that have a lot more money then the average American citizen. What he is not telling you is the government DHS, Social Security, and other U.S. government agencies are stocking up on it also. So basically if it’s scarce they raised the price and if it’s plentiful they raise the price. Why would he tell you if it was going to the government, because that would be a conspiracy and he’s not allowed to tell you that. He goes on to explain the allocation requirement which means everybody else gets it before you do. They’ve done it in the past and they will do it again. It’s not an opinion truth.

  20. Tim L on December 3, 2021 at 9:23 pm

This is different from the other panic buys. During the Obama panics you could find regular rifle rounds no problems. This time everything went, even oddball calibers like 35 Whelen. Now, you can’t even find 130gr .270 Win/150gr 30-06 & the prices listed are $35-80 a box.

  21. Lawrence Hawk on December 3, 2021 at 9:24 pm

Zero bulk nowhere, no hope in finding any. Not one all summer. Last 22lr I bought was in July, two 50rd pk at ten dollars each. The best they can ain’t good enough.

  22. Joe Helvey on December 3, 2021 at 9:25 pm

I just don’t buy that. Guns got replenished almost everywhere and quickly at that. Those “new” gun owners are not stockpiling ammo like folks that shoot really often. So their 2 or 3 boxes just crushed the ammo industry. Sure it did.

  23. SA Scott TX on December 3, 2021 at 9:25 pm

Nosler: "I’m not going to lie."
Then follows with a very vague response.

  24. ClaudeAlmighty on December 3, 2021 at 9:26 pm

Thank you for having the integrity to maintain your high quality standards.

  25. B on December 3, 2021 at 9:28 pm

6 month update. Ammo companies are perpetuating this fraud. They need to stop supplying government entities and actually supply the American people. I don’t know anyone that’s bought ammo in the last year aside from me, yet it’s sold out many places and prices are marked up substantially still. SOMETHING IS UP

  26. xdkos man on December 3, 2021 at 9:29 pm

Is there just a big fear by all ammo manufactures to expand to meet market demand? Every other market grows to meet demands from what I’ve seen. The ammo market is the only one I know of that doesn’t expand enough to meet market demands. It’s been over a decade of shortages and they still can’t meet the demand. And now we hear from ammo manufactures that they are expanding but it only takes a little common sense to realize their expansion is a joke. Really, it just seems like excuses to all of us buying ammo. 30-30 WIN is over $3 a round, 22LR for 9 cents around, I barely shoot anymore and have completely stopped buying guns. It’s expensive to expand is not an excuse because other industries keep up so it must be fear.

  27. George Foley on December 3, 2021 at 9:30 pm

I’d really like to see the "infrastructure" and "production" improvements being built. Where are these "expansions" on video? My opinion is that these guys see this as a bubble (maybe) and they are afraid to expand due to their opinion that it is just a bubble, while at the same time completely comfortable sticking to the predictable profits coming in.

  28. Chuck Speer on December 3, 2021 at 9:32 pm

Is this true 330 million people in the US and over 400 million guns in the US LOL

  29. MuricaMottoRider on December 3, 2021 at 9:33 pm

Yeah, 6 months later and foreign ammo is most affordable and now Russian ammo ban. Let’s try to explain this again.

  34. Vac Efron on December 3, 2021 at 9:40 pm

Biden is behind the ammo shortage, he is behind all the shortage’s he signed them off his administration has been laughing in people face’s when they are about the fuel shortage who do you think did it ?

  35. Glory_in The_3rd on December 3, 2021 at 9:41 pm

Do you think maybe it has anything at all to do with people constantly blowing through ammunition as if it cost nothing? LOL you ever sat there and watched people that go in their backyards and shoot like it’s the end of the world LOL they go through hundreds and hundreds of rounds multiply that by all the people that have guns LOL come on now

  36. brutalblues on December 3, 2021 at 9:42 pm

Thanks Joe, for setting the record straight. Conspiracy theory believers won’t believe you, but whatever. Hoarding is the true reason for the shortage.

  37. E C on December 3, 2021 at 9:43 pm

    Good information

  38. mike beddingfield on December 3, 2021 at 9:45 pm

It seems from the look of the stor shelf’s we should be able to pick led up in the street to reload with lol

  39. Bruce Johnson on December 3, 2021 at 9:46 pm

The problem is spreading to shotgun ammunition. The trap range is completely out of trap loads and turning people away because there is no ammo. People cannot find steel shot shells for bird hunting.

  40. Randy Lewis on December 3, 2021 at 9:47 pm

What happened to the billions of rounds that the Obama administration bought

  41. Bill Mueller on December 3, 2021 at 9:49 pm

Your full of shit you increased production to 24/7 .no primers/ powder but your working 24 . The shooting ranges don’t show increase no ammo

  42. BEYBLADE And nerf guns on December 3, 2021 at 9:49 pm

What happened to forecasting? Ammo has been a issue for a couple years. Does ammo expire? Why not increase a better buffer? There weren’t a million new hunters added in a week? If they saw the growth why not build to support? Someone made more realistic post below, simple supply and demand. Demand high people will pay more. Ammo companies way of increasing margins during this pandemic.

  43. Lawlzinator on December 3, 2021 at 9:56 pm

Colion simping for the businesses that artificially reduce supply and price gouge with the high demand.

He’s sponsored and paid well by these types of companies, he doesn’t have to care or ask hard questions, so he won’t

  44. Ioannis Petsas on December 3, 2021 at 9:58 pm

I found in a gun shop two boxes of small pistol primers the other day for $25 each(100 primers). I understand that there is a lot of demand but there is no shortage from the factories. Business are raising the prices not the Factories. CCI website has a price for $6 for a box of 100 why the gun shop sell them for $25 and more?

  45. Zanake Yang on December 3, 2021 at 9:58 pm

Joe Biden said there would be high paying green jobs. Where do I sign up…I would move to make ammo for the demand.

  46. Rodney Zurek on December 3, 2021 at 10:01 pm

And if we make an extra 100 million along the way by raising prices that’s ok too.

  47. Wolfpack3D on December 3, 2021 at 10:02 pm

I’m so happy I horded the shit out my ammo, now reselling online I’ve made so much money, I’ve got it, you want it, so you’ll pay my stupid high price <3

In all seriousness I hope the issue gets resolved soon,

  48. Smoker X on December 3, 2021 at 10:02 pm
