S&W M&P9: "Proven Excellence" by Nutnfancy

S&W M&P9: "Proven Excellence" by Nutnfancy

Declared as an outstanding pistol design in my November 2008 initial tabletop review, the S&W M&P9 now is proven as such in TNP. Much shooting in both range and tactical fashion has only endeared me more to the design. It is a good looking, low recoiling, well-built pistol with excellent ergos. At 28 or so ounces it is still light enough for most service pistol roles, depending on loadout. The sights are excellent low profile Novaks and enable the gun to be shot accurately with good speed. Lefties shoud rejoice because the M&P pistol series feature reversible magazine releases and the low profile slide stop is already on both sides. Field strip is easy and fast although I deem the take down/sear deactivation tool unnecessary. The S&W M&P Pro series gives improvements to the trigger (4.5 to 5 lbs stated) but I found nothing wrong with it as is. From this extensive shooting therefore, I place this M&P9 in the same category of reliability, durability, accuracy, and 2nd type of cool as Glock and Sig. /////////////////////// Nutnfancy Likability Scale: 9.5 out of 10//////// Music: www.torley.com

Nutn..  Have you had some range time with the Steyr M9-A1???  How does this pistol stack up to M&P9?

I just picked up the M&P9 and I love it! I like your videos dude and your unbiased approach towards firearms. I wish I was your neighbor so I could go shooting with you on this open land. I wish I had this much space to shoot steel targets.

Trying to decide if I want to keep my M&P40 or get a Gen 4 Glock 22 due to the new Gen 4 grip texture. I usually run Talon grips on my M&P and Gen 3 Glocks, but the Gen 4 Glock grip texture feels perfect. But, finding it hard to replace my M&P

My wife took me to the local range that will allow you to rent the gun. I shot at 25yards and had decent groups I haven’t shot a pistol in three years loved it my wife loves it. I’m looking to get the range kit and swop out the sights to night sights and a trigger job of course this will be after I get it. I’m saving my money to buy this gun

Just got this over the G17 Gen4. 4 mags, G17 had 3. Pistol and mag holster inc. $90 cheaper.
    Right decision?

Love that Nutn made a followup vid in 2010 but I think its time for another. The track record is inspiring since, there is truly a large following of M&Pers and if what I have experienced is true with others, Glock shooters are now perking their ears up or at least respecting the brand. If it were the mid 90’s Glock would need the followup because most people still were not IN on polimer, today though, because of Glocks success there is a huge market in polimer pistols and if you ask a dedicated G gun owner their second choice it’s overwhelmingly the M&Pseries. XD’s are third. It’s time for an American owned American made Brand, today trusted with well over 1200 LEAs to get some credit. And for those of us that cast our own bullets and like to shoot more for a lot less it’s the overwhelming champ!

Would you trade a used fnx9 around 200 rds through for a used m&p9? Both limited to 10 rd mags in cali. Hope to ccw in the future as well. The fnx9 is in jail now but have an offer to trade when I take possession. I will shoot both first but am curious to hear opinions.

    Thanks.

I am torn between getting this, or the compact version of this pistol. I m looking for a CW, and a nice pistol to take to the range. I do not own a pistol yet so this would be my first. Can anyone help?

Well nutnfancy, you have sold another one of these handguns. Went to Cabela’s and picked up the M&P9 Dual-tone Kit. Fantastic ergos and overall a quality feel to the gun. Thank you for the information you provided that ultimately led to this purchase.

Same thing that happened with the LA County Sheriff’s Dept happened with the North Carolina Highway Patrol a couple years ago.  They had some extractor issues, S&W tried to fix it, but by then NCHP had already gone to Sig’s.

"If you cant solve the problem with 15+1, then you may want to run." VERY true.
    I have this gun=great.

Traded my XDs 45 for a M&P45C yesterday after numerous problems with ejections into the forehead and the 100 day recall.  I also wanted American made.

Does Smith&Wesson claim any potential damage in pulling the trigger in order to disassemble?
I generally ignore my takedown tool during disassembly.
    Any repercussions?

  23. nick green on March 20, 2022 at 5:45 pm

@nutnfancy so I have a Glock 23 and want a 9mm as well and I have found a store that is selling new M&P9s for $399.99. so my question is, do you recommend getting a lone wolf conversion barrel and corresponding magazines for my Glock or should I get the M&P9?

  24. skione n on March 20, 2022 at 5:45 pm

    hey loco

  25. Jorge Alfaro on March 20, 2022 at 5:45 pm

This gun or performance center 4.25 barrel? Money is not issue. Anyone opinion on this please?

  26. Ballenxj on March 20, 2022 at 5:47 pm

PS, Speaking to the firepower end of this, ProMag now has 32 round magazines for this gun. Do I have one now? You had better believe it. 😉

It’s funny how every time I go to purchase a new handgun I look for a nutnfancy review before i do anything else! Thanks Nutn!!

  29. Matthew Robertson on March 20, 2022 at 5:49 pm

nutn do a review on a smith and wesson m&p9 c

  30. Nix116 on March 20, 2022 at 5:50 pm

this gun is funn I liked shooting it at the range a lot

  31. Insert Name on March 20, 2022 at 5:52 pm

you should review the m&p9c! concealable and very shoot able

  32. No Name on March 20, 2022 at 5:54 pm

so your saying that there is no issues with the 1:18 barrel out to 25 yards ?

  33. Blotted on March 20, 2022 at 5:54 pm

if I bought the .40 and also got the 9 barrel wouldnt it make it pretty much this gun?

  34. Ethan Dean on March 20, 2022 at 5:55 pm

How much are one of these can sombody tell me? 🙂

  35. Jordan on March 20, 2022 at 5:57 pm

I’m New to handguns I just turned 21. I’m swaying towards the m&p

  36. Darth Paradox on March 20, 2022 at 5:59 pm

I’d buy one of these in a heartbeat, if S&W would sell all the factory parts. I know you can call S&W and order parts, but I’ve read they restrict the sale of certain parts. So WROL you’re screwed.

  37. Nick Valenzuela on March 20, 2022 at 5:59 pm

nutnfancy have you had any experience with the m&p 9c?

  38. Goodspittin on March 20, 2022 at 6:00 pm

I traded my German frame Sig P229 for a full-sized M&P40. That should say something about the M&P.

  39. iHateAshleyGraham on March 20, 2022 at 6:00 pm

I will be purchasing my first pistol in the up coming weeks, do you recommend the M&P9 as a good first gun or would you recommend something else?

  40. shcmoly on March 20, 2022 at 6:06 pm

Nutn, magazine disconnect safeties are designed to protect police officers. In many videos you say you are an officer but hate the mag safety. Please share your thoughts in depth on the subject, perhaps in a separate video in the future.

  41. Ryan Blaney on March 20, 2022 at 6:07 pm

currently considering this for my first handgun… do you still recommend it?

  42. M Isi on March 20, 2022 at 6:08 pm

thank u guys the review excellent job

  43. WCGwkf on March 20, 2022 at 6:09 pm

why do people complain about pulling the trigger for takedown? have they never done any dry practice before? get over it

  44. DynoSauR on March 20, 2022 at 6:14 pm

My concealed carry instructor was singing the praises of Glock’s when I took the course so I immediately bought a Gen 4 19 and later on a Gen 3 23C.  I could shoot both of those guns very well but, the trigger guard on both guns would wear a blister on my middle finger after as little as 50 rounds.  I later on held a friend’s M&P 9 like in this video and the ergonomics were so much better I sold my Glock’s and have one by one bought the M&P Pro CORE 5 inch, a regular 4 1/4 inch M&P 9, M&P Shield 9, M&P 22 in full size and most recently the M&P 9c.  My full size M&P 9 and the Pro CORE both had the gritty feeling trigger and I do recommend Apex Tactical trigger kits or at least their Ultimate Striker Block to get rid of the gritty trigger.  My Shield and new 9c didn’t have gritty triggers but, the trigger pull is a little more than I like but, since I will mainly be carrying those 2 guns I may not do anything to those 2.

  48. HardcoreAmericanUSA on March 20, 2022 at 6:15 pm

Man I am happy right now. These aren’t legal in CA and are hard to find em used in a gun store, and I went in to register my 1927 Winchester model 12, started talking to the guy about handguns and how I was going to get a Beretta. I told him I wanted an m&p but can’t get em and he just walked in back and came out with a used m&p 9 that only has 200 or so rounds through it and in beautiful condition and included 2 mags and the factory grips and box. I wasn’t planning on getting another gun that day but I threw $100 at him to hold it for me. I have to wait a month because they literally got it a day ago and have to wait 30 days before they can sell it I guess. I am so F&#($+G happy right now!

  49. Michael Valicenti on March 20, 2022 at 6:16 pm

They’re even better now with the inproved triggers and the 1:10 twist barrells, thank you S&W!! 🙂 🙂
