Serious question, if it’s meant to be just a slide stop why is it ambidextrous??
What year of the M&Ps are these? I have 2 different sizes and neither one has that spring clip.
One drop of oil and there is no problem!
Bill Wilson of Wilson Combat on using the slide stop to release the slide, obviously there are situations where you have no choice to use the slide stop on the sights to rack the slide. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1AuVd0qycrc
S&W designed the slide lock as a lock….not to be released without racking the slide. This could come back to haunt you when your lock no longer works.
Do you run your M&p 2.0 without the detent still? Has there been any issues if so? (Like the slide locking back before the last round)
No issue with mines do use a dry lubricant on it from time to time.
That "device" is called a "detent." I’m sure you already knew that, but for your viewers that don’t, that’s what it’s called – a detent. 🙂 Good video, though. ;^)
I just removed that piece myself but noticed that when I tried to pull the slide back to release it didn’t work. I just took light sand paper to the edge of the slide lock and now it releases the same as when thatbpiece wasn’t there.
Reason right side is harder is itnhas slight twisting torsion which absorbs some of the force. Left has retention tab AND mag in tab to engage lock/retention… This is one fix which along with removing part of the retention tab, which helps. Being a Lefty, ambi was reason ro buy. Real disappointed as this is only real PIA change which detracts.
I’ve never had a malfunction with the birthday bump as you call it. I competed in my first tactical games competition in January and I used my well broken in H&K .40s auto loading feature the whole weekend with no problems. Further, if I want the auto load I slam the mag in. If not I just insert the mag with just enough force to lock it in. The M&P 2.0 that I just bought is great except for the slide release. I removed the detent as shown in the video and the force needed to release the slide is reduced about 80%. I did get it to auto load by slamming the fresh mag into the well, but, I was able to do a mag change without sending the slide forward until I wanted to. I plan to re install the detent but not before polishing it down to a reasonable level to prevent the the slam load and allow me to operate the slide release without feeling like I have to have a gorilla’s grip strength to do it.
I’m going to attempt this. I’ve been successful in swapping the mag release to the ‘wrong side’ and installing a button paddle on it. Clamping the pistol down to work on it, while I’m "beating on it" will be the next hurdle!
The device is called or known as a detent- a catch that regulates striking.
I don’t understand your problem really… why don’t you just hit the slide release as you insert The magazine with your support hand?
Thank you for the video. I am disappointed that on the 2.0 it did not auto forward.
I’d be curious if SW will void the lifetime original user warranty if you do this.
Is it reliable on the slide locking back on firing the last round? Great insight! Thanks!
Useless video
Sen Sey – I’m curious about how much lateral movement a Full size 2.O slide is supposed to have. The one I have I can move the slide left to right and vise versa in the Polymer lower by holding the pistol grip in my right hand and using the thumb pressure of my left hand to push the slide left or right. Wondering if this loose fit is just normal in Polymer guns. I have a couple sigs that have no slop at all.
After finishing a mag it stays open…Insert new mag pull back and release… That’s how it works… Its not a slide release, its a slide lock.
Thank you so much for posting this video. I too have many M&Ps and this is the one thing that I really don’t like with the version 2.0. Now that I have it removed the slide drops easier and makes for speedier reloads. Thanks again!
Just got a S&W 2.0 and did not know about that until after I purchased it but after watching your video I have a project this weekend also the trigger feels like 💩 that will also get upgraded
I removed the detent entirely to make the slide lock into a slide release.
I sure do hope this doesn’t bite me in the face in the future.
What’s so wrong with auto rack? I like it. Especially in IDPA
The slide lock detent was added to prevent the slide from going foward when you slam the mag in. It’s not advised to rely on the mag slam to chamber a round automatically because it can cause malfunctions.
