S&W M&P 15 Rifles Are Best Sellers for a Reason

In a market filled with custom and high-performance AR-15 rifles, the M&P15 line offers shooters a quality and classic AR that’s range ready for almost all your shooting needs without the hype or expense of extra high-end features.

Sure, they are pretty much as basic as you can make an AR-15, but sometimes basic is better. That might explain why Smith & Wesson’s M&P15 is a dominating seller every single month here at Guns.com. If you’re not looking for a bunch of marketing bells and whistles filled with high-speed, low-drag extras that few shooters ever really use, then the M&P15 should be a welcome breath of fresh air.

In a way that’s hard to explain, this made me even more excited to test these guns than many of the custom and tactical shooters I’ve had lately. So we pulled two M&P15 Sport II rifles from the Guns.com Vault to take them out for a spin, which included a little abuse during some barrier shooting drills. Here’s my honest opinion of these guns after several months of testing.

Pretty new to the AR lineup. What exactly is the difference between the Patrol version of this and the Sport II? I see that yall have them two in stock but all I’m really getting from people is that they are both the same yet clearly they look a bit different and one cost a couple bucks more.

  15. jDuffey on August 20, 2022 at 8:20 pm

They are good guns. Still liking the M&P 15 7.5" 5.56 pistol I purchased from you guys a few months back. 🔥

  16. Steve douglas on August 20, 2022 at 8:21 pm

To me the barrel finish looks blued.

  17. Miko on August 20, 2022 at 8:23 pm

Front sight post is the most important part, spend the extra money lmao that railed gas block is awful

  18. German Vanegas on August 20, 2022 at 8:24 pm

I own several AR-15 platforms, but the S&W MP 15 Sport 2 is one of my very favorite for the same reasons explained in this great video. I gladly spent a few hundreds on upgrades, including a Holosun RDO, becoming a fantastic, reliable, accurate rifle for a lot less than those high-end fancy AR-15s.

  19. Ia Corrigan on August 20, 2022 at 8:24 pm

    The Rittenhouse Rifle. Proven accurate!

  20. Anthony Gerber on August 20, 2022 at 8:25 pm

In the market for one now. More of a pistol guy but gotta get one of these bad boys.

  21. Ady Matt on August 20, 2022 at 8:29 pm

This is the same one used in Parkland so you know it gets the job done hey?

  22. Lyndon Domingo Lonzanida on August 20, 2022 at 8:29 pm

Was it already zeroed when you got it out of the box? I am referring to the one with the A2 front sight.

  23. Tien Nguyen on August 20, 2022 at 8:32 pm

Thanks for the video! I have been searching every where to find someone talk about the optics ready version. I just bought one and I can not find any information on if there are any 13in guard rail that would fit. Do you have any suggestions? Would we able to use any mlok rails that would fit where the gas block is at? Thanks to anyone with this answer.

Yea those are good. The springfield Saint is a pos though.

  30. Noahmercy -Mann on August 20, 2022 at 8:36 pm

Got mom one a couple years ago. Cleaned and lubed it, dropped a Nikon scope on top with a PEPR mount, and took it to the range with some of my "knockaround" 62 grain handloads. Doggone thing shot inch groups at 100 yards and ran flawlessly! It was so good I loaded some Gold Dots so she can use it for whitetails and pronghorn. Exceptional value for money.

These Rifles get a lot of hate for some dumb reason but I own 2 of them and love them. I highly recommend them.

  32. StryderK on August 20, 2022 at 8:37 pm

I’m gonna get the Daniel Defense DDM4V9 this Friday but last month, this was my first AR, I got the Sports II with the Magpull rear and A2 front sights and it came with three more P-Mags for $850 total, tax included. Still a very sweet shooter and I think more of my DD as a compliment to this. This one is my “classical” M4. There is a reason I got the Ozark carrying handle for it! At home, the Sig Romeo 5 and Ozark Rhino sights go back into the box or storage and the handle goes on and I pretend to be either the Terminator or Rambo. The DD will be the tricked out ultra modern one. Already got the Ozark aluminum back up sights and the flashlight already. The ACOG and laser designator will have to wait later until I pay off the DD as it is NOT cheap! Still, the two should become my best buds….Now I can really pretend to be either John Rambo or a T-101 series 800 armored Endoskeleton!

  33. Oliver W on August 20, 2022 at 8:38 pm

great rifle , you can upgrade to a better barrel and better trigger if you require

  34. Jarvis Rutherford on August 20, 2022 at 8:40 pm

    Overpriced

  35. James Harrison on August 20, 2022 at 8:42 pm

Have had mine for 4 years+, have changed it to an A2 stock, carry Handel, and leather match sling, at the 25mtr military site in target 5 shots under a dime, nice groups at 100m, the 300mtr is a rock on the mountain side, no target and no way to get to the point, yet the dust cloud is constantly in the same area. For a mil spec trigger I have no complaints.

  36. R. Parker on August 20, 2022 at 8:42 pm

Love mine and have had it for nearly three years. 👏👍🗽🦅🇺🇸😊

  37. adam84- on August 20, 2022 at 8:42 pm

Add a Magpul fore grip w/ heat shield- optic of your choice….. maybe a different stock. Larue trigger, and there you go. Affordable high quality AR.

  38. Rifleman on August 20, 2022 at 8:42 pm

Had mine for over a decade still going strong , except for i had to change the bolt out to spikes tactical as original bolt sucked and kept on jamming the rifle

  39. Roger Ray on August 20, 2022 at 8:43 pm

I too bought one of those jamatics won’t even cycle

  40. Cup_Head on August 20, 2022 at 8:45 pm

I like to think of them as the Toyotas. Decently affordable, and does the job, and you can upgrade it as you wish

  41. Anime Fan on August 20, 2022 at 8:46 pm

The Sport II was gonna be my first AR-15, but when I found one for a lower price, I went into the store to ask for it & someone already bought it the day before, so the employee instead offered me an ATI Mil-Sport for an even lower price which I already had enough & took it. I took the ATI primarily cause I wasn’t gonna find another AR for the same price in Kalifornien & cause Nazi Tyrant Feinstein reintroduced an "Assault Weapon" ban that year

  42. dpm9a1 on August 20, 2022 at 8:51 pm

Anyone know how the UTG pro 15in super slim drop in handgaurd looks on the optics ready with the railed gas block, or the ncstar 15 in drop in. I’m curious how the gas block lines up with the rest or how much of a gap exists if any between the block and handguard.

  43. Making Firepower on August 20, 2022 at 8:53 pm

Selling and buying is one thing. Try making them

  44. joelucenti on August 20, 2022 at 8:54 pm

Does anyone find this a better option than the GSG16 or Mossberg 715T? Just doing my research since I’m new to this and have till Sept to choose, this will be my first rifle

  45. Hugo Phuquerself on August 20, 2022 at 8:57 pm

love my m&p ! just got back from the range with it actually put abt 200 rounds down range. couple mag dumps and not one jam or malfunction using reloaded brass. swapped out the stock foregrip for a quad rail threw a fore grip and a red dot on top and its a machine for the price.

  46. me myself on August 20, 2022 at 8:57 pm

I have friends that spend thousands setting up up their AR’s to do what my M&P does for $400. I threw a cheap $100 red dot on it and a foregrip. My $500ish setup does everything my friends $1000+ rigs do. I’m happy for sure.

  47. Christopher Eger on August 20, 2022 at 8:57 pm

Tough to beat for the price.

  48. kallisti8 on August 20, 2022 at 8:58 pm

This is the type of gun that orphaned that 2 year old at the July 4th parade, right? That killed seven people?
