I was just thinking.. when u zoom in and out on a target, your mili radians on your retical would not be the same on the target. 2 MIA out on target could be literally anything in the retical in relation to your zoom. So you have to know how many mia in your retical in relation to what that value would be at range.. ??

Great video. I went from a sfp mil-dot to a ffp grid a few years ago and have not looked back. Either coyotes or ground squirrels at various distances required the switch for less math. I prefer to not touch the dials and use hold overs. My personal "range" is out to about 1 mile off the porch of our house, and my varmint and predator territory is from 0-2.5 miles in the hill country. Dialing up/down would take too much time on a hilltop trying to zap a yote. With all the options out there I was able to find a reticle that served my daily needs

Again Great video. You are a wealth of knowledge. 🍻from πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ

Great educational piece. I really am enjoying your channel. Have been a pistol shooter for many years and had a work mate take me to a 1000 yard range before lockdown. What a blast hitting 3 out of 5 with his .284 – I know I have the bug for LR shooting with all the videos I now watch of you both. Keep up the good work. Cheers from an Aussie now residing in NZ.

You two are a GREAT team, keep it going forever! By the way, my favorite scope when shooting nigh time professionally for foxes, was the old Kahles 8×50… that was few years ago?

  11. Otis Carl White on October 28, 2021 at 8:33 pm

You already know how I feel about you guys and I think the world of you guys. Great video again.

  12. Dawesy D on October 28, 2021 at 8:34 pm

Mark have you done any courses or is all your knowledge self taught. Amazing how much you know. Also it was awesome actually meeting you and Sam (albeit briefly) at the checkpoint at The Lakes the other day. I was going to offer to buy you both a coffee when you came back through but missed you as I was briefing another of my colleagues.

Always a pleasure watching and soaking in much to my need. Wish I had the extra money to help support the channel but 6 kids kinda take every penny. Thank you for all the info you always put out.

  16. Ken M. on October 28, 2021 at 8:40 pm

Great video! I run the only reticle available in the Valdada Recon G2, The MP8 X1 Extreme in moa. It does the job well.

  17. Anders Nilsson on October 28, 2021 at 8:42 pm

Really like this video. There are a jungle of scopes and reticles out there but few really nice video’s about it. Personally I find the German #1 works pretty well for hunting situations. Unfortunately it’s difficult to find scopes with a fine German #1 today. But for long range It’s definitely the NF MOA-T in Sfp.
    Cheers mate!πŸ‘

Keep up the great videos. I’ve learned so much from your channel. I just picked up my first entry level ULR .50bmg.

  23. Null on October 28, 2021 at 8:51 pm

Ha, the pause before "dogma" made me laugh. Great stuff, always wondered what the super busy ones like the horus were for. Thanks.

  24. Tim McFarland on October 28, 2021 at 8:54 pm

I have a question for you I am mounting the night force beast 5 to25 on my Remington 700 target tactical 308 and I see that it has 120 minutes of elevation the night force scope mount has 20 Moa the pic rail I’m looking at has 40 moa for 60 total. Is that too much? Or would it be better to go 20 on the mount and 20 on the rail for 40 total

  25. Paul Simmons on October 28, 2021 at 8:54 pm

My favorite hunting reticles are German #1’s and German #4’s.
I like 3-9’s on my 22’s with FCH and Duplex reticles for dimes at 100yds, too much fun!

I realize, however, that there’s one thing that I don’t have to worry about too much at 100yds and that’s wind. Bullet drop is simple because graviy is a constant but understanding the wind currents from your favorite ridge to those fields, pure magic!

Enjoyed the explanation of the Christmas tree reticles. Take care and be safe!

  26. Jose Oropeza on October 28, 2021 at 8:56 pm

Thank you Gave me some good things to think about.

  27. Slade Smith on October 28, 2021 at 8:57 pm

Yes I like a more simple reticle.. or a nice fine Horus type.. as long as it’s fine and mil based.. not those busy reticle.

  28. BR on October 28, 2021 at 8:58 pm

Reticles, really good idea ! Cheers

  29. DrBreezeAir on October 28, 2021 at 8:59 pm

The paperwork for my new rifle is ready but I can’t pick it up because of the 🦠 so I can’t get ammo. Your videos cheer me up. Thank you.

  30. Robert Ruf on October 28, 2021 at 8:59 pm

I love the mp8 in the IOR it’s simple and clean with all the hold over I need

  31. bullthrush on October 28, 2021 at 9:03 pm

Nice overview. Having used a duplex for 40 years, they work fine for me, but I am considering a mil-dot for a new rifle.

  32. Brandon Kemp on October 28, 2021 at 9:03 pm

Love my Tremor 3/Christmas tree. I dont think i could go back to anything else.

  33. Jay Guitars on October 28, 2021 at 9:08 pm

I’m with you on a clean scope. Many are too busy. I just shot a 130metre shot with my .22 airgun using things I’ve learnt from watching you.(thank you).

  34. Daniel on October 28, 2021 at 9:09 pm

I like a ffp Christmas tree reticle and have a few different optics I use for hunting but I use those same rifles for target shooting and playing at range also nothing like yall but a thousand yards and in. Now one thing I learned is they have to be illuminated otherwise you cant see the reticle in low light. I think if I was doing what you do I would definitely go with a cleaner reticle like you’re talking about for the same reasons the more you can see the easier you can spot your own impacts… great video as always keepem coming brother!!!

  35. willsy on October 28, 2021 at 9:10 pm

Hi Mark and Sam – great video! I particularly liked the reticles overlaid on the splash – really brought the point home . Best wishes

  36. Vince F on October 28, 2021 at 9:10 pm

Good stuff as usual. I prefer simple duplex out to 300 yards. Out to 600 a simple 3 hash mark(elevation)with 2 hash mark
(windage) is all I need. I don’t like busy reticles either. And 2nd focal plane good enough. Will try a plain milliradian reticle for 700 to 1000(FFP). The ranging capability (when knowing target size), seems interesting. I suppose it could also be used as a simple BDC as well; when you learn your cartridge drops and wind. Always a good source of practical information that Sam provides.
And always explained in an easy to understand manner. Thanks Sam! This will certainly help when one is deciding on a scope.

  37. Pilot McBride on October 28, 2021 at 9:11 pm

    Good info Mark.
I only have 3 scoped rifles, 22LR, 22-250 and 6.5CM, they all have different scopes. In order, BDC, SFP tac and FFP tac. Great to be able to fart around with the different scopes.
All the best, stay safe & best wishes to the family.

  38. Bob Wiese on October 28, 2021 at 9:11 pm

    Thanks Mark! Good stuff… 🍻

  39. Donald Page on October 28, 2021 at 9:13 pm

I’m halfway through the video and I have to pause and comment. This subject is/can be much more complicated than can be covered in a few minutes of video. I applaud you for making this effort and doing an OK job so far but you could probably write a 500 page book on the subject without repeating anything. When can I expect the first edition? Ok… back to the video…

  40. SheerWill Survival on October 28, 2021 at 9:14 pm

Great job on demo .. one tip I’ve learned as I got older and eyes age mildots work better than small lines that run together.. also mildots are fastest to acquire πŸ‘ŠπŸ»

  41. Rusty Shackleford on October 28, 2021 at 9:14 pm

Spot on, different reticles for different applications….I doing 1200 yds max.

  42. mikeehmikeeh on October 28, 2021 at 9:16 pm

Love this channel. Deserve a lot more subscribers. I get a sense of your neutrality in the videos..the "this works for us" vibe. Keep up the good work. A playlist on all things scope/retitcles/magnification/ffp vs sfp/ etc … to get them in one place for people looking to invest in a scope… I’d watch ’em all! I like how you illustrated how distracting the busy reticles can be. I had a similar instinct for a clean reticle and you helped me be more certain that is what I want.

  43. Tony Gillahan on October 28, 2021 at 9:19 pm

Great video mate, glad to see a couple of adds at the start too πŸ‘Œ

My favourite reticles at the moment are the Nightforce Mil C F2, Nightforce MOART and Kahles MSR πŸ‘Œ

  44. Charles McKinley on October 28, 2021 at 9:19 pm

Great video! Do you have a reticle in your spotting scope to help with giving calls? Thanks
