Reconyx Hyperfire 2 Review

Reconyx Hyperfire 2 Review

The Hyperfire 2 is an excellent picture-taking low glow IR trail camera. It combines fast detection speed, with incredible battery life, and best-in-class night pictures. The video quality will disappoint you, but everything else is rock solid.

Through our 2-year warranty program on the trail cameras we sell, we are able to track warranty rates on all trailcam manufacturers. We do not publish this data but durability on Reconyx trail cameras is unmatched. These cameras are engineered and produced in Holmen, Wisconsin by some of the brightest minds in the business. On top of that, Reconyx has recently started issuing a 5-year warranty on the Hyperfire 2. This is quite the statement.

Would be nice someday to just be in range of your camera and use bluetooth to connect, view, and upload the photos and videos from the trail cam to your phone without having to take out the SD card. I don’t have the cellular version, not sure if that can do that. I just set my cameras in the field the other day, I’m excited to see what they capture.

We have used these cameras for years in very damp environments and for the most part they are great. However, we mount them in culverts in awkward places to reach and have to line them up very carefully to capture what we need. The major failing in this regard is a viewing window to see what you are taking a picture of…or a cable or bluetooth to the computer so you can put it in, line it up and know you are getting what you intend. Also, the newer hyperfire2 we bought don’t seem to have as good a picture quality as the latest. I have yet been able to figure out how to get the camera to take more than a 30 second video – even though we set it for 90 seconds.

Is there any reconyx model with no glow flash? I’d like to use as a hidden backup indoor security cam for my commercial garage which is a few miles from my house. I can’t risk potential burglars seeing the flash. But wondering if it would be better to set up a motion activated light that would kick on to scare them off and, in addition, get better quality video and stills instead of using IR.
