Reaction to proposed changes to the Firearms Control Act: Dr. Guy Lamb

The Firearms Control Amendment Bill, which is out for public comment, calls for the removal of the self-defence clause, as a reason to possess a firearm.
Some opposition parties have already started canvassing against the bill, saying it takes away the rights of citizens to keep themselves safe.

So much for balanced reporting. Very economical with the facts as I didn’t hear anything about the illegal supply of guns destined for destruction by corrupt officials to the underworld.

  2. Perry De Gouveia on October 28, 2021 at 8:26 pm

To start Dr Guy Lamb states outright that he does not have the facts nor the numbers. This whole interview was based on his opinion due to there being no supporting facts. This bill will do nothing to stop illegal firearms, it will simply give criminals more firearms as the police cannot be trusted with the firearms that are handed in. SAPS has processed less than 5% of the amnesty applications since 2020. They are incompetent and believe the only solution to thier mismanagement is to remove firearms from legal firearms owners.

Serious gender base violence, firearms going to stop it. Violent person will use anything to kill ot hurt you. Where is this Dr getting his data from . Where do you life Dr?

  4. Ulric Ogle on October 28, 2021 at 8:27 pm

Dr Lamb should do his research before agreeing to sit down for an interview.
As for the anchor, she wanted the answer to be "majority white men". That demographic has changed over the years with many non white men and women (colored, Indian, black) being licensed firearm owners… She needed to set the narrative for the interview to go a certain route.

Nonsense…. this guy is talking rubbish…..

  6. Jonathan Ziman on October 28, 2021 at 8:29 pm

Everyone, please go and lay complaints to the Broadcasting Complaints Commission (https://www.bccsa.co.za).
One sided, biased interview with zero context! Nothing "factual" in this interview at all! Where is the actual data to support these so-called "facts". 60% of licensed firearms in this country belong to black South Africans!

  7. Malcolm Bell on October 28, 2021 at 8:30 pm

Half truths and omitting other information such as the 9.5million rounds of ammo lost by SAPS or that knives are the most used tool in contact crimes.

  8. Arthur Turner on October 28, 2021 at 8:31 pm

If guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns

  9. Nardus Ellis on October 28, 2021 at 8:32 pm

Criminals use AK47 and R4….where do the get them ???? ….not from the general public….

  10. Eben Wiid on October 28, 2021 at 8:33 pm

The benefits of firearms for self defense out-weighs the risks by a landslide. These "supposedly" intelligent people ignore the benefits altogether and see only risks and then makes their decisions based on the risks they see. No logic in that argument. So people are killed when airplanes fall to the ground, they only fall when they are in the air, so lets ban all airplanes from flying, then we would have less people killed in airplane crashes. Problem solved!!!! What happened to the benefits now? How are people going to travel to different continents, how are the average South African going to defend himself when multiple attackers want to kill and rape them? Disarming the legal person who wants to protect him or herself from the scum that feeds on the murder of innocent victims, is like murdering and raping the citizens yourself.

  11. Anthony Verwey on October 28, 2021 at 8:33 pm

60% of firearm owners are black people. This is about safety not race. Typical fake Mainstream media with a one sided interview spewing made up statistics.

  12. Gerhard van der Grijp on October 28, 2021 at 8:35 pm

What absolute nonsense! One sided interview! Biased! Facts are being thrown around but where is the actual data to support this? What agenda is being pushed here? Most of these facts are not facts at all. Pathetic journalism! There are 2 sides to a coin.

  13. Treasure Box on October 28, 2021 at 8:38 pm

A firearm Black Market is coming. Then people will even acquire the guns they weren’t allowed to have in this current gun law.

Guy Lamb is a anti gun activist. His in bed with GFSA. They all are in George Soros pocket

What an idiot this ‘expert’ is- (amongst other things) he got it all wrong regarding (interim) protection orders. The amendment doesn’t propose blocking license applications, it proposes stopping someone’s competency certificate application. Already protection order applications under the Protection from Harassment Act and the Domestic Violence Act can include orders to remove firearms. The FCA also already allows firearms to be removed and an enquiry into the fitness to possess a firearm to take place. Idiots like this ‘Talking Head’ create more confusion and prevent the public from formulating an informed opinion.

Leftist propaganda machine at work again, no facts brought to the table just opinions.

  20. Jesse Homan on October 28, 2021 at 8:45 pm

What percentage of gun related crimes are conducted by legal firearm owners vs people in possession of firearms illegally? The police aren’t coping as it is. If the public don’t have the option to obtain a license for self defense, for criminals, committing violent crimes will be a cakewalk.

  21. Suvesh Sewrajh on October 28, 2021 at 8:47 pm

How do ppl protect themselves…saps cannot be trusted and are incompetent and are underfunded and and and

  22. Craig Rennie on October 28, 2021 at 8:49 pm

A government funded, and I use this term loosely, "news" entity giving a wholly biased and one-sided version of the story…should we be surprised? Considering this is the same broadcaster that graced us with Hlaudi, I think not.

  23. Mike Hoare on October 28, 2021 at 8:50 pm

Guy lamb, you are clueless and uneducated. Maybe get some facts before you open your mount and flush the truth. Clearly an education doesn’t make you educated. The current law already allows for action against anyone with a license if they threaten violence. And you fail to comment about how the ten of thousands of antique and valuable firearms held by collectors are about to be destroyed, by completely taking away the category of collectors. A category that has been the least problematic of all firearm owners. Or how some of the new proposals are far stricter than even the UK! Like banning many deactivated firearm and restricting antique muzzle loading firearms even worse than the UK. Australia and Japan even. And making the ownership of reloading equipment (vital for accurate and ethical hunting and sport shooting) a criminal offense!

    George Soros puppet

  25. storm lewis on October 28, 2021 at 8:54 pm

An armed population is a safe population. Look at the riots and Alex was alot safer than other places

  26. Mary Du Plessis on October 28, 2021 at 8:58 pm

The farmers won’t be able to defend themselves, citizens should have the right to defend themselves and their families. The police are great at selling confiscated weapons and weapons handed in by citizens to criminals and police officers tend to be the ones who are robbed of their weapons, even police and army armouries are robbed. It isn’t the citizens fault. Police are useless and hopelessly understaffed but their budget is cut by 2 billion whereas vip security services are increased by 1.7 billion. This is nefarious and I can only assume that disarming citizens, reducing police budget and increasing personal protection for government points to action by government on defenceless citizens while EWC and other very bad policies are pushed through. That is what happened in Venezuela and look at that country now.

  27. Guy Hobson on October 28, 2021 at 9:01 pm

    Wow… Racist much?

  28. Jesse Homan on October 28, 2021 at 9:01 pm

What is the demographic breakdown of legal/illegal gun owners in South Africa? Completely race obsessed. Both questions are irrelevant. Legal gun owners and all citizens for that matter should have the right to defend themselves against violent crimes. Demographics has nothing to do with it. Weak journalism, really!

  29. Just_frxggie on October 28, 2021 at 9:02 pm

If the budget is reduced for the police that protect the public and increased for VIPs, and the public is banned from protecting themselves, Will criminals stop being criminals?

  30. Jabu Mngadi on October 28, 2021 at 9:03 pm

More people working at gun shops and those training people to use firearms safely for self defense will be without work should this stupid law be implemented. Wonder if they took that into consideration.

  31. Wim Wagner on October 28, 2021 at 9:04 pm

Race again SABC? Gun owners are of all colours, African owners are increasing. How about you have a critical look at the demographics of the criminalis? At least the criminals don’t discriminate what colour their victims are most of the time.

  32. george van schalkwyk on October 28, 2021 at 9:04 pm

The hole problem is not firearms the problem is criminal start by catching criminals and put them in jail. And start creating jobs then crim wil come down. Maybe the government must start doing there jobs

    False info

  36. Gary Smith on October 28, 2021 at 9:07 pm

Another example of media bias and reporting with a contrived and nonsensical agenda. This chap is clearly anti firearms. his numbers quoted are not verified. The images shown are misleading. Thousands upon thousands of state firearms are unaccounted for, what about those firearms sold by SAPS members , those firearms lost by the police , loaned out, hired out? And I wonder if he has any idea how many black competent and legal firearms owners there are in South Africa. And please bring accurate stats Regards number of peopl have been killed by " hunting weapons" , the ones stolen , taken illegally.

  37. Kriveshin Chhana on October 28, 2021 at 9:07 pm

Why are there images of firearms next to the the criminologist? Where is the context regarding this. The news anchor wants to give South Africans context but now misleading them with these images.
