PT 2 : AR15 UPGRADE – REMOVING GAS BLOCK, GAS TUBE, BARREL NUT, FLASH HIDER

PT 2 : AR15 UPGRADE – REMOVING GAS BLOCK, GAS TUBE, BARREL NUT, FLASH HIDER

THERE ARE MANY TIPS IN THIS VIDEO! Here’s Part Two of the AR15 upgrade series. My Colt AR6721 AR15A3 Tactical Carbine is getting a refresh. In this video, I start the work by removing the gas block, gas tube, flash suppressor, and barrel nut. Next will be the installation of the new 15″ free float handguard.

It’s a shim not crush washer. However great video keep up the good work 👍👍👍

You need a 2×4 where you notch out a portion for the front sight post… to keep it more level and off of the delta ring… just a thought. (as far as punching goes). It’s easier and more cost effective than buying an AR-15 punching block.

Interesting to note that the barrel contour on the AR6721 is much heavier than the M4 govt. profile. It’s very similar to an M4A1 socom barrel.

This tip about using the calipers to figure out which was smaller was extremely helpful. I had spent the previous 45 minutes banging on the wrong side. I never know HOW to determine the right sight. Once I got the taper pins out, the whole process was simple. Thanks.

Great informative video. But the machinist in me cant help but correct you when you call the calipers a micrometer lol. those are two different measurement tool lol

Great job on your video, like mentioned before attention to details other vids left out is priceless also liked everything done in real time.

  7. Joe Hunter on January 10, 2022 at 8:51 pm

Hint. Use a roll pin punch and not a regular punch

  8. Mike Rostine on January 10, 2022 at 8:53 pm

Working on getting a sight base off now that is very tough cracking the wood up under the barrel.
I have a round block made specifically for the job but cannot find it.

    Very surprisingly helpful, thank you.

I have an ar15 a2 model 20" the delta ring and gas block on my a2 look exactly like the one on the video, can I still use them if I install a 16" barrel? I plan to buy a 16" gas tube and handguard

Ur videos on this are by far the best. U pay way more attention to the little details others leave out. I would definitely suggest ur videos on this to anyone..

The roll pin that holds the gas tube is IMPOSSIBLE to remove.

  14. Mowers Blowers & Guns on January 10, 2022 at 9:01 pm

Wd40 is not a penetrating oil!

  15. Henry Graham on January 10, 2022 at 9:03 pm

I destroyed my gas block front hand guard holder trying to get my gas block pins. Also had to cut off the delta ring because they would not come off. Wasted my entire upper since everything is entirely too tight. Never again will i buy anything from Palmetto state armory

You need to focus the energy to get pins out. Ask any machinist. Use the garage floor as it’s concrete. It places you above, leverage and accuracy and the concrete has no give. This guy is using the proper blow hammer and I was impressed with the selection of punches utilized.

Very informative video. What is the purpose of gas tube or gas block.? Plz reply.

  18. Billy Jack on January 10, 2022 at 9:08 pm

should have used to WD40 on all pins from the start……

So am I able to just tap out taper pins and remove FSB with gas tube still attached, briefly, simply for purpose of changing out my end cap? Have a middy that came with a circular and am putting in the (mostly) standard triangle so I can actually use handguards meant for middys, (and short of modifying said handguards to work with circle). Also ordered new taper pins along with triangular cap so I hopefully negate any risk of a loose FSB.

S&W MP 15 sport 2 over and hour now can not get the barrel nut off. Literally feels like its welded on anyone else have this problem? I have actually bent 2 of the teeth on the barrel nut and am afraid I am going to strip the entire barrel nut which seems impossible but I guess not…. It seems a little ridiculous and I have now broke 2 chairs out of anger :D!! Anyone have any tips

  21. Mr. Reality on January 10, 2022 at 9:10 pm

pro tip – when you get resistance on roll pin or flash hider, heat the metal for 10 seconds with a lighter or blowtorch for same effect as wd40

  22. darrin ray on January 10, 2022 at 9:10 pm

I’ll buy the old front sight base, factory handguards and stock from you if you aren’t gonna use them

  23. mrmrlee on January 10, 2022 at 9:12 pm

If the pin is rounded just use a nail set. The concave surface will match the convex pin nicely without sliding off the pin.

  24. CMYKready on January 10, 2022 at 9:15 pm

my pins on the gas stop wont come off, lol

  25. Mark Argenziano on January 10, 2022 at 9:16 pm

You got the job done but you might want to be a little more clear with your wording on your next video 1..that’s not a crush washer, it’s a shim..2 that’s not a micrometer, it’s a caliper..3 that mystery gunk is carbon. Do yourself a favor and get a punch block, a proper set of punches, and a rubber mallet. You will be amazed how much easier it is. I would also recommend using a reaction rod rather than a vise block when it comes time to reinstall the muzzle device

  26. Cameron Stark on January 10, 2022 at 9:16 pm

God I’ve been hammering the hell out of these pins. I’ll try WD-40

  27. Google User on January 10, 2022 at 9:17 pm

Wow dude this series is like as good as it gets. Thank you very much for being so comprehensive and clear. This answered a lot of questions I had.

  28. Aaron Davis on January 10, 2022 at 9:18 pm

Holy moly!!! That’s gonna cost me more at the gunsmith shop than what I paid for the darn thing.

  29. DAN KOLLARS on January 10, 2022 at 9:19 pm

can i just cut the top of the sight off with a dremel so i can put a scope on?

  30. rodelson yukee on January 10, 2022 at 9:22 pm

    You suck

  31. nydajackmccoy on January 10, 2022 at 9:23 pm

Ruger spoiled me with its screw tightening and loosening delta ring.

  32. Chris Barton on January 10, 2022 at 9:24 pm

Good video. I like that you are actually doing it in real time..encountering the little issues one can expect doing stuff like this. Good job!

  33. R. Mercado on January 10, 2022 at 9:24 pm

As a Marine Infantry Officer and Armorer you may need to brush up on your technic while understanding the Colt rifle utilizes a screw to secure the upper from the lower. I would never, never use a non-authorized screwdriver on any weapon let alone an armalite. Semper Fi

  34. EasyNow on January 10, 2022 at 9:25 pm

First, GOOD JOB – THANKS…Try a 3-inch punch and you’ll have less waving around. Yours looks like an 8-inch punch. Also remove the gas tube completely, then you can wrestle the FSB further side to side. Many ways to do a job, all work, some easier than others.

  35. Mowers Blowers & Guns on January 10, 2022 at 9:26 pm

That’s not a flash suppressor, it’s an A2 flash hider birdcage

  36. K G on January 10, 2022 at 9:26 pm

Good videos but you need more editing.

  37. AS3 SXP on January 10, 2022 at 9:28 pm

I have found it much easier to put the butt-stock on the table/floor so you have a solid base and it doesn’t wiggle around on you.

  38. drjaye1962 on January 10, 2022 at 9:29 pm

Sir those are digital calipers, the ones that look like a "C" clamp are micrometers…also were u in metric? (not that it matters, just clarifying, I did not recognize the measurement ), I did like the pro tip bout the clamp to use as a stop, for the Channel Lock to remove the hand guards…keep up the good work…peace
