New Zealand prime minister resigns: 'No longer have enough in the tank' | USA TODAY #Shorts

Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern said Thursday she is stepping down as New Zealand’s leader and will not contest this year’s general elections.

Fighting back tears, Ardern told reporters in Napier that Feb. 7 will be her last day in office.

“I am not leaving because it was hard. Had that been the case I probably would have departed two months into the job. I am leaving because with such a privileged role, comes responsibility, the responsibility to know when you are the right person to lead, and also, when you are not. I know what this job takes, and I know that I no longer have enough in the tank to do it justice. It is that simple,” she said.

Ardern had faced a tough election campaign this year. Her liberal Labour Party won reelection two years ago in a landslide of historic proportions, but recent polls have put her party behind its conservative rivals.

Why do some Kiwi hate Jacinda Ardern?

Well, after several discussions amongst family, work colleagues and friends, they believe that Jacinda simply didn’t do enough.

Prior to the Pandemic, there was a controversy that had Kiwi divided, was when Labour Party gave one of New Zealands biggest gangs (The Mongrel Mob) $2.75m for a meth addiction program/treatment. Many people were flabbergasted about that one.

Jacinda paid the media to make her look better on national television (Also not sure on the legitimacy of that point, but people bring that up too)

The housing crisis. Jacinda promised people that she will fix it – but there are over 20,000 people on the public housing wait list and it’s grown more since that promise wasn’t kept.

During the pandemic, many people disagreed with being forced to stay home and getting vaccinated. Many businesses were closed and many more lost their jobs. I personally was affected by the lockdowns and couldn’t attend studies anymore.

The poorer families, like mine, were unable to get work and whatever Government funds, weren’t enough to support those households.

Flashforward, inflation is making it near impossible for lower wage workers to survive. So many of us uni students are back living at home with our parents to save money (for others, that’s not a possibility).

Crime is on the rise again. Almost everywhere you go, shops have been smashed and robbed. My local supermarket, which is the only one we have in our town, was RAM-RAIDED and out of trade for 2 days.

One family member explained how there has been no funding gone into repairing the roads. Truck drivers pay X amount of dollars to use the roads, and it seems that they aren’t fixing the potholes. (Not sure about the legitimacy on this one, but it’s a point I wanted to share)

The argument I’ve heard the most is that Jacinda Ardern is a "show-pony". "She’s made political stunts in the past that have made her look like a great leader, to cover up her mistakes or lies."
E.g, during the 2019 Mosque shootings she was very inclusive of the Muslim community (and that’s the only reason why she won the upcoming election).

If any of these points need correcting, or debated against, I’m happy to engage in civil discussion.

(Originally, I didn’t delve too deeply into it, but these were just the common insights I found when talking to those around me at the time.)

    Edit: Grammar and timeline corrected.

  26. J Driver on February 4, 2023 at 2:18 am

Watch her get some top award now from her puppet masters. Like Fauci getting the highest award for his "services" from the Jesuits. Jesuits(the assassins of the vдтісап).
Ог some award that is exactly opposite of what she was….. like some unity award or something.

Like Obama getting nobel peace award, as soon as he got into office. Gets that under assumption, then drone strikes so many people.

You should’ve had enough sense ,Jabcinda , to know that you NEVER “ had enough in the tank” to begin with .. you never had enough brains you never had enough morals you never had enough integrity. You never had enough of anything ,EXCEPT a whole lot of evil , but that’s beside the point… How about a lovely set of IRON BRACELETS as a parting gift?
