    Nice hammer!

  3. Greg Krest on June 1, 2022 at 6:53 pm

Not sure I would trust my life to a pen spring. An AR-15 trigger spring would also work.

@toobadsosad83 Yea, you did! Thanks and thanks for watching & commenting. /John

Great video and well explained. Good job and Thanks

  8. bearing01 on June 1, 2022 at 6:58 pm

no it does not. Search youtube for "Making a USPSA Limited M&P40 Pro " to see how to improve the trigger. /John

Thank you sir, I fell in love with my M&P 9 again (I’m still getting my Glock though LOL). I’m as beginner as it gets to any type of gun smithing, and you made it simple enough to understand. My spring came from a ball point pen as well haha.

Anyone ever tell you "you’re da man"? Awesome video.

  11. Matthew Darke on June 1, 2022 at 7:02 pm

whats the big deal with the mag safeguard anyway? just curious. I like it.

  12. bearing01 on June 1, 2022 at 7:04 pm

@PwnSeeker Nope, never had to replace the spring. /John

  13. It’s this kid! on June 1, 2022 at 7:10 pm

Or just buy this and swap it out. Smith & Wesson Sear Housing Block without Integral Lock and Magazine Safety S&W M&P, M&P Compact 9mm Luger, 357 Sig, 40 S&W

  14. 2xtream on June 1, 2022 at 7:12 pm

I just bought one today and shot it already. Very happy, but one thing I was not aware of these 9mm auto’s the Magazine is VERY hard to load, the spring is very strong so strong It takes me a long time to load it. Is there a secret way to load these 17 rd mags. The gun is sweet shoots great but the reloading the Mag’s sucks… thx

  15. Jesse S on June 1, 2022 at 7:13 pm

You are the man!!! I just did this to my M&P40 and I love it. Thanks!!!

  16. bearing01 on June 1, 2022 at 7:13 pm

@Ryanberthel Yes, I usually slap the mag in to load from slide lock. My Ruger SR9 also does this.

  17. cutchins on June 1, 2022 at 7:14 pm

@bearing01 John have you tried this commenter’s suggestion? Does it really work without affecting the proper function of the gun?

  18. mreverythingmagnum on June 1, 2022 at 7:14 pm

papermate pen springs work with no triming and the same size, get the breast cancer ones for a better quality spring

  19. Romeo Alpha Foxtrot on June 1, 2022 at 7:14 pm

    Great video!

  20. Cody Shanks on June 1, 2022 at 7:16 pm

Should of left that stupid thumb safety out instead of puttting it back in

  21. bearing01 on June 1, 2022 at 7:19 pm

    Thanks

  22. vipervenom1000r on June 1, 2022 at 7:22 pm

Would you happen to still have the mag disconnect and spring?

  23. mrtn71 on June 1, 2022 at 7:22 pm

Once i removed the magazine disconnect reinstalled the sear and the original spring.I can dry fire it without the magazine in and field stripping can be done by pulling the trigger. Now my M&P is really cool.Great video

  24. bearing01 on June 1, 2022 at 7:23 pm

@LeonardMichaelis There doesn’t seem to be much force / tension on that spring. All it does is shift the mechanism to one side. If the spring ever gets weak then it’s cheap to replace. The other spring option is to get a 1911 magazine release button spring and use that instead. I’m sure that spring is quite a bit stronger… but probably unnecessary. Thanks for commenting. /John

  25. bearing01 on June 1, 2022 at 7:26 pm

@statewarrant old skool… with whatever is handy. LOL. Thanks for watching and commenting. /John

  26. Romeo Alpha Foxtrot on June 1, 2022 at 7:28 pm

    Thank you so much!!!
I just did this to my Shield 9mm. Way better now! Who needs this crap anyways? Dumb!!!
A bit of a pain to get the trimmed pen spring into position. I used some small needle nose pliers and a small flathead screwdriver. Once the spring is in place in the pocket and the pin is pushed through it is easy money!

  27. Mike Duke on June 1, 2022 at 7:29 pm

Was about to toss this pistol in the trash, thanks for posting the video.

  28. aurorasequential on June 1, 2022 at 7:29 pm

Are you using hex drivers for a punch?

  29. bearing01 on June 1, 2022 at 7:30 pm

You’re absolutely welcome. Thanks for commenting. /John

  30. bearing01 on June 1, 2022 at 7:32 pm

@cutchins No I haven’t tried it and don’t plan to. I want the gun to operate as intended by the manufacturer. /John

  31. whiskyjacked on June 1, 2022 at 7:32 pm

I wonder if just making a bushing, maybe out of bronze or delrin, it would be better then using a spring to take up that space?

  32. Dcsp3x on June 1, 2022 at 7:33 pm

i removed the magazine disconnect, sear disconnect, spring and the gun still functions perfectly, there is no use for those parts since you can just pull the trigger to lower the sear for stripping

  33. michael cagle on June 1, 2022 at 7:34 pm

You’re awesome man. Thanks for the tip. I was afraid to try to take the spring out until I saw you do it. It took me less than five minutes and now my gun works just like I wanted to. Thanks so much for the video.

  34. bearing01 on June 1, 2022 at 7:34 pm

@736736736736 I guess if you were attacked and someone wrestled for your gun you could drop the mag and that would disable the gun. I don’t like it because you can’t dry fire the gun without inserting a magazine (practice). It’s annoying during any pistol competition where you have to pull the trigger to release the striker before holstering. /John

  35. Jennifer Nichols on June 1, 2022 at 7:35 pm

They make the same gun without the mag disconnect feature also. Guess it’s for police guns so if a criminal grabs the gun the officer can just drop the mag and not get killed with their own wespon

  36. ZFlyingVLover on June 1, 2022 at 7:37 pm

Dude. You made my day. I bought this M&P 45 from classic firearms as a LEO tradein but it had the damn mag disconnect . How is that going to help an officer save his/her life if the mag is dropped by accident or intentionally in a fight? smh. Anyway it was really annoying me so much so that I refused to use the gun until I saw your video and fixed it. THanks so much!

  37. Rogue Five on June 1, 2022 at 7:37 pm

Could you use the original spring rather than the revised one?

  38. Kev Sanchz on June 1, 2022 at 7:38 pm

I’m trying to look for a vid on this same concept for the Sd40ve. Would this same procedure on the Sw Sd40ve

  39. cutchins on June 1, 2022 at 7:38 pm

@cutchins I’m talking about the suggestion of removing the pin spring, sear disconnect and mag disconnect completely.

  40. bearing01 on June 1, 2022 at 7:39 pm

@Ryanberthel I never thought of that. I figured I needed the seer disconnect in order to flick it forward and fold down the seer, to get it out of the way, in order to remove the slide. Thanks for the input. /John

  41. T-Top Tony on June 1, 2022 at 7:40 pm

Just removed both the magazine disconnect , sear disconnect and that spring. It works fine, now I don’t have to use the tool to put down the sear disconnect to remove the slide. Just a pull of the trigger and it slides off just like the glock.

  42. mrtn71 on June 1, 2022 at 7:41 pm

@ Pwnseeker i just reused the same spring.Took my needle nose pliers and spread the spring apart a bit.Hope this tiny bit of info helps.

  43. PwnSeeker on June 1, 2022 at 7:41 pm

Just wondering if you ever had to replace that spring agin? Im getting a M&P 40 range and carry kit and am wondering if they have the mag disconnect already. I know they dont come with a thumb safety, but not sure on the mag disconnect or not. Thanks!

  44. bearing01 on June 1, 2022 at 7:42 pm

    @eib40jls You’re welcome. I’m glad I could help. /John

  45. Tom D on June 1, 2022 at 7:43 pm

Hilton called, they want their pen back……..

  46. mrtn71 on June 1, 2022 at 7:45 pm

Thank you for making this video.I just got rid of the magazine safety and i reused that little spring when i put back the sear disconnect lever in.I just took two needle nose pliers and spread the spring out so i would have enough tension.Works perfect now.I can fire a round from the chamber without the magazine being inserted and i can field strip the slide just like a glock by simply pressing the trigger. Thanks again and well done on the tutorial.

  47. Prop Bender FPV on June 1, 2022 at 7:46 pm

does this take the grittyness out of the take up in the trigger?

  48. Cryptobutcher on June 1, 2022 at 7:46 pm

@Ryanberthel Can anyone else confirm this will work?
