Marlin Model 45 Camp Carbine – Reloader Joe #19

Marlin Model 45 Camp Carbine – Reloader Joe #19

Things start out good, then the rifle has a malfunction. We test Winchester and Federal ammo on the chronograph then see how well they group at 25 yards.

Almost finished with the video and the recoil buffer falls apart and causes the bolt to stick open. Luckily this didn’t crack the stock (as I hear can happen when the recoil buffers fail). I have ordered the replacement buffer and the 21lb recoil spring (which the installation of will be the subject of a future video).

I got the new buffer and 21lb recoil spring installed. I chose not to make a video of the installation b/c there are already several good instructional videos on YouTube. I didn’t see any point in reinventing the wheel, so to speak. I will do a video on the results of the installation and we’ll get to find out how the Federal ammo groups.

I bought this rifle in 95. Took it to a gun show a couple years back to find a nice scope for it and to help see how it looked on the spot. I DAMN NEAR GOT ATTACKED by people trying to buy it. I had no idea how popular it was. I may have put 50 rounds through the thing in total. I never thought much of it until then. It’s a safe queen.

I just picked up a Marlin Camp 9 from my local used gun emporium. Love the rifle to death but I am truly disappointed it wasn’t a Camp 45 since the 1911 is probably my favorite pistol platform and i have 1911 magazines and .45 ammo for days. I have never owned a 9MM pistol or a Smith and Wesson 59 so I didn’t have any ammo or spare mags to go with the rifle. Still, I absolutely had to own it the moment I saw it

The buffers in those were the weakness of the firearm. Constantly break.

we carried those in the cop cars early in my career. SWAT team carried mini 14s and 870s.

That’s a handy little carbine. Sadly we’re only allowed .22 RF semi autos here in the UK, centrefire is banned.

Do you really hunt with that? Have you taken anything? at what range?

  15. KF42 on November 3, 2021 at 10:02 pm

I know folks in some states hunt with small pistol caliber carbines like this or the hipoint. Mine requires 1000 ft lbs @ 100 yards for rifles, so this isn’t an option.

Have a question, What would cause the bolt to get stuck open?, It’s exactly like that one you have in this video, Thanks for any info to help solve this problem.

I got 45 military rounds for a rifle or balt driven machine gun

I wish Smith & Wesson would come out with something like this!

That extra barrel length makes a significant difference. Those advertised velocities on the boxes are for a handgun.

  22. Mk Shffr on November 3, 2021 at 10:23 pm

Something like that in 32 or 25 would be an ideal house gun.

  23. Michael Palm on November 3, 2021 at 10:25 pm

The factory buffers were too brittle, recoil springs too weak. Surprised yours lasted as long as it did?

Do the other golfers know your sending balls down the fairway at that speed?

  25. darrell hampton on November 3, 2021 at 10:27 pm

Federal now utilizes a SMALL pistol primer in their 45 ACP, well beyond my understanding why. Its a great cartridge, but simply cant afford to lose 120 fps.

I wonder if 8 round magazines work reliable in a Marlin Camp Carbine .45

  27. beetlejerk on November 3, 2021 at 10:37 pm
