    Bought a Marlin 336 43 years ago and all I’ve done with it is shoot it, never had a problem, and still my favorite gun( out of 17).

    Marlin guns have been getting bad reports of late. The way this video was presented, I got the impression that it was a PR job to tell the world how nice it is to buy Marlin guns. The question is, why was the barrel defective and required to be sent back to the factory in the first place. Wasn’t the arm checked out properly before it left the factory? I think Remington want to sink the Marlin name. Perhaps it will bring out same arms as Remington. These will probably go through a complete factory check before being sold. Who knows.

    Man if you like that ya should see the old ones, they were very nice. Remington,and Marlin and several others dpms,ect… all are gone. It is now owned by freedoms arms group," with heavy ties to George Soros." Don’t buy there crap. get an old Marlin, or a Henry. Those things are shit man, Take one apart and look at the parts. Please research this stuff before you guys hate on me.

    I had to return my 45-70 to Remington twice but they finally totally satisfied me gun works perfect is awesome wasn’t happy at first but I am totally satisfied now.

    I just cant understand that anyone can be happy with the rifle when it had problems rigth out of the box. Quality control on the remlins must be crap. That remlin rifle cost here in Norway 1000 USD! I would be pissed if a 1000 dollar rifle came out of the box with problems

    Good that you experienced excellent customer service. My experience with Marlin and Remington has not been quite so shiny. I’ve had to return two firearms to them: a Model 94 in 44 Magnum, and an R51 (9mm Luger). The R51 failed at the range – I suspect that the firing pin broke, as when it quit firing in the middle of a string of fire, the hammer could still be brought to full-cock by racking the slide, the gun chambered another round, and the hammer fell when the trigger was pulled, BUT there was no firing pin strike on the primer at all. I shucked the round by racking the slide, which sent a fresh one into battery, then I aimed and pulled the trigger. Same thing happened, and happened again. The pistol was shipped back to Remington by the dealer I bought it from and they’ve had it now for several weeks – not a peep from them as to what’s going on with it. With regard to the Marlin Mod. 94, two issues: it’s barely able to keep rounds on paper at 25 yards from a bench rest, with groups averaging 4-6 inches, and printing 4-5 inches left of point of aim. Inspection of the front sight revealed that it appeared to have been mounted crooked, canted to the left about 15 degrees. The second issue was that the rifle jammed with every cycle of the lever. Factory loaded .44 Rem Mag ammo of standard weight and dimensions would not chamber without getting stuck in the mechanism, or without the lever jamming (bolt rearward position). This is not a cheap, $100 .22 caliber plinker we’re talking about – it’s a $600 rifle and should have shot like one out of the box, one that I had hoped to take out hunting this year. As it turned out, I couldn’t have trusted it to hit a deer at 25 yards. As with the R51, I have not heard from Remington re: the status of this rifle, and they have had it for several weeks. If I don’t hear from them soon, Remington will have forever lost my trust and I will never buy another Remington firearm.

    Thing is why order the 336 when you can order a Marlin 1895 Cowboy action model? It is 45-70, 18.5” barrel, 6+1, octagonal barrel with Ballard rifling.
    This is the model to buy. I bought mine a 2019 model. It is fantastic, perfect in every way.

    I have a Marlin 336, 100th anniversary edition, that I loaned to someone, and got it back in horrible shape – I think it was left outside for several months. It was rusty, and the bore looked like a coal mine. I sent it to Marlin (Remington) for a re-barrel and re-blue. Received it back today, and it is gorgeous!! They did a fabulous job, they did it quickly, and the cost was very reasonable – $264.00. Every aspect of the transaction was handled expertly and courteously.

    I have always liked both Marlin and Remington, and I like them even more now!!

    Marlin is owned by Freedom Group as well as Remington. Even though they are produced under the same roof, they are autonomous.

    Marlin is owned by Freedom Group now (Remington Outdoor) a holding group. They own Remington, Marlin, Bushmaster, DPMS among other items. At least it is focused on all firearm related products. Colt, while still good firearms, are owned by Cannae Holdings Inc., who also are invested in restraints among other things. It seems like the only way these major companies can stay afloat is by joining some sort of conglomerate.

    Thank you for posting something positive about the current status of customer service of Marlin and Remington. The fact that they "made things right" with you shows they are trying to improve their products and they are trying to satisfy their customers. I know that whether we pay little or much, we expect the product to be virtually perfect, but where there is the human element, there will also be defects. And as long as they are corrected we can all work together. Peace and goodwill.

    And that’s another reason why I’m a Marlin guy. A few months ago The magazine guide broke on my xt22 and they replaced it free of charge and best of all the gentleman I talked to in customer service was very polite and did his job well. People complain all the time about Marlin not being up to par but I’m telling you that Marlin is back. Sure they’re not your daddy’s 336 but they still make a great gun and their customer service is outstanding.

    Remington has recently filed for bankruptcy. Ruger is buying Marlin from Remington. Hopefully the quality of Marlin rifles will improve after Ruger starts manufacturing them. I have a few Ruger firearms. They all seem to be pretty well made. Never had any problems with Ruger firearms. The quality of Remington, as well as Smith and Wesson, has gone downhill over the past several years. Let’s just hope that Ruger starts building the Marlin 336 like it was built before Remington got their hands on Marlin. Ruger is a top quality gun manufacturer. Until Ruger starts making the 336, I’ll stick with Henry rifles.

    Really glad to see Remington has got their act together again. I saw some videos going back 5 years and thought it was terrible how everyone at Marlin had lost their jobs etc. You’d think a progressive Company would use seasoned talent and machinists to continue what was always an exceptional product. It’s tragic that American Companies, especially in such a specialized field treat each other like a bunch of "Dock Workers"!
    Out of all the rifles out there what I need more than anything is one of these 45-70 lever actions. I had a 375HH and a .356 Winchester, but being in the outback of British Columbia with Grizzleys popping up unexpectantly especially in rural small towns or on country roads, one can fire off a half dozen rounds real
    quick when need be. Right from the early Pioneering days it was always the American made rifle that had dignity and that rugged solid construction. It would almost be unpatriotic if one used a Mauser or some Chinese knockoff here. I don’t mind buying the odd "made in Japan" electric tool but it’s different with a gun or rifle.

    I have a 336 SS. The rear brand screw breaks. Marlin will not fix it due to this problem being "beyond the scope of the warranty." I went to Home Depot, got a roll pin and fixed it myself.

    you need to search youtube about all the problems with marlin,,, you should not have to send a brand new gun back to them to be fixed in the first place,,,, their quility control sucks,,, if it was decnet you wouldnt have to send it back like that,,,,, there is many vids on the crappy production,, sure customer service is probably pretty good but if the factory would buid them right in the first palce you would not have had the problem,,,,

    Also bought anew 1895G had to send it back to factory for repair, UPS picked it up and returned it in two weeks, no cost, haven’t shot it yet to see if repair fixed problem, but it’s obvious they replaced rear sight.

    Omg lmfao and all the other b.s., someone who isn’t crying. You can watch all the videos you want but most are rejects that think their firearms experts that cry about small shit like the the stock not being a perfect match. If they were men with real skills they could fine tune on their own. I’ve bought superior firearms and tuned them to my liking as soon as I took them out of the box. Don’t expect a Henry out of a marlin in less your ready to mod. If your a bitch yupi than bye the highest quality so you don’t have to apply the skill of a real man.

    Don’t buy a Rugin!! Ruger has taken over Marlin. Now you will see bad Marlin’s! Remington made better Marlin’s than the JM models by far!!

    I don’t see a problem with putting a red dot sight on a newly built model lever action rifle.  It’s a very practical solution for hog hunting or game at shorter distances.  I certainly wouldn’t put a red dot on a more vintage lever action rifle like an old Winchester, but on a Model 336 that came from the factory 2 weeks ago it’s perfectly fine.

    I am done with marlin. Worst customer service i have ever had. They do sloppy work and this guy is lucky his gun came back fixed. Okay maybe i bought a 700 dollar lemon. Chatter in rifling and loose stock. But if i ship it and have to wait 3 months and get it back only to see its not fixed. Henry is the way to go!!! Not marlin

    Marlin under the "Freedom Group"; garbage, garbage, garbage. I will never do business with any company under the "Freedom Group" ever again. Their customer service is the worst that I’ve ever experienced. Oh and by the way, your rifle didn’t go back to Remington or Marlin, it went to a gunsmith/service center near you.

    There’s an article from 2016 where they actually spoke to one of the big wigs at Remington about what went wrong and his explanation (excuse?) was that when they first visited the old Marlin factory they found the machinery to be outdated and in poor condition so they decided to shut it down (and put the marlin employees out of a job) and have the rifles built in their factory on better machinery. What they didn’t realize was that there were no drawings or design specs to go off of. The Marlin employees were building rifles based on specs that had been passed down through generations. So what you ended up with were Remington employees assembling lever guns (which they had never done) based on specs that Remington pretty much had to guess at. To top it off, they didn’t bother stopping production while they figured all of this out and just kept churning out thousands of crap guns. Translation: Remington/Freedom Group are a bunch of money hungry scumbags who weren’t interested in doing things the right way. And I will personally never purchase a Marlin that wasn’t made in the original factory even if the quality on the newer ones picks up
