Kahles Factory Tour: Premium Austrian Optics

Kahles Factory Tour: Premium Austrian Optics

Wrapping up our coverage of some of Austria’s top manufacturers in the firearms industry, we take a factory tour at the Kahles factory. As the company that really pioneered the modern riflescope that we all know and love, Kahles has been making cutting edge scopes for over a century. Today they produce the Kahles K624i, one of the most used rifle scopes in the precision rifle shooting community. Every Ritter & Stark gun that we shot had one of their scopes mounted on it, and with them being one of the best precision scopes in the world it isn’t hard to see why.

Once you step foot onto the assembly room floor, it is very easy to see why these scopes demand a premium price. The attention that every employee that is involved in building a rifle scope gives to ensuring a quality product leaves their building is nothing short of awesome.

I have a Steyr SSG P2 with a Kahles ZF69 scope that I have had for 31 years now. It us a great optic and an excellent combo up to 600 metres. I would upgrade both rifle and optic but would struggle to find something to replace both at todays prices!

    Kahles. Simply the best.

  8. Ron Smith on November 21, 2021 at 7:50 pm

Mechanically they seem like good scopes, but I hear they are optically inferior to other top tier brands like S&B. Too bad because I wanted to buy one.

Can you produce a tracking test on the Kahles K624i Gen 3 in the near future? Any reviews on this scope would be most appreciated.

I have a Trijicon accupower 1-4, awesome scope but I have issues now, the inside of the lens some tiny debree like dust and as TFB stated here it gets magnified by the lens, I talked to Trijicon about it and the rep stated that it could be from bits of debree breaking of into the scope from using the turret adjustments, like bits of grease or something?? I just wonder if dust was in it from the start during the manufacturing process. It’s still a great scope and the debree is very tiny and does not pose a huge problem but for that kind of money I should not have to deal with that type of issue, Trijicon agrees and said they will give me a brand new scope as soon as I send my old one in.

Micron = 1 millionth meter or 0.00003937008”. Accurate to 1 micron? 1 micron..?

Kahles offers a lot for the buck, compared to S&B etc. One of the reasons I use their K624i, and will be continuing to do so. Their customerservice is also outstanding, whereas S&B lacks a lot.

That comment about Europeans using glue to attach scope is blasphemy! We have some of THE best scope ring manufacturers here in Europe! Spuhr to name one! King of all rings.

    austria loves you back.

I shoot a 1-6 and its worth every cent.
I am just unhappy that I bought other scopes prior to my k16i because money lost on vortex and leupold

Now do a vid on IOR Valdada. I hear they are the absolute best when it comes to making their scopes to track with perfection. Mathematically speaking…

Does anyone know the name of the laser engraving machine? Or just the name of that type of machine?

That was a good video,..Thanks Patrick.

  32. Left Hand of Dorkness on November 21, 2021 at 8:24 pm

So, Patrick takes the tour, then takes video of himself giving a book report on what he’s just learned 10 minutes ago…why not just video the tour and hear this directly from the Kahles rep? Most Austrians speak English as well if not better than Americans. I don’t see why it’s preferable to hear it second hand from Patrick. My $.02.

  35. STT VOYAGER on November 21, 2021 at 8:26 pm

The NEW LINE of Kahles Optics with the SKMR3 reticle are some of the FINEST LOMG RANGE PRECISION OPTICS IN THE WORLD…..One recommendation, I would tell Kahles is to please INCLUDE TENEBREX OPTIC CAPS AND A 56 mm Sun shade…In order to be competitive with NF and S&B….it’s a bit disappointing to spend 3k on an Insanely awesome optic and not get the aforementioned with the optic….

  36. Gus ATL on November 21, 2021 at 8:27 pm

Kahles are so rare that I had to travel out of state to buy my 16i. Apparently there are not a lot of G4-B reticles in the wild and this one in particular is for left hand users. When I got home I noticed there was a particle inside the scope, it’s only noticeable when contrasted with a solid color wall.. which I failed to do in the outfitter store. ((So much for quality control.)) There customer support is located in Rhode Island and for USED scopes the repair is around 8 weeks. Not my case but because it was never mounted.. Thank you Patrick for the factory tour.

  37. chuck guerin on November 21, 2021 at 8:30 pm

Ohh. So it deforms after being made. So my scope in the sun deforms? And a hunnert years ago? Basically between my questionable aim, and the tenious process of making scopes, especially by hand. Means that at any given time I can maim yet not kill a deer. Frack! glad I only wasted money on a Leupold. I think I will go back to open sights.

I just got a new Kahles 6×24 and the elevation turret goes up to 26 mils but it will only travel to 17. Is this normal or do I need to contact Kahles?

  48. MegaGouch on November 21, 2021 at 8:37 pm

I like that he didn’t even attempt to convert 1 micron into an imperial measurement.

But just so you Imperalists don’t feel left out.
    It’s 25/64th e-6 of an inch, or 1/2450 of a thou..
