Is the Smith & Wesson 5.7 the Best On the Market?

Is the Smith & Wesson 5.7 the Best On the Market?

Last week I had the opportunity to put 150 rounds through the new Smith & Wesson M&P 5.7. Here are my initial thoughts.

Smith & Wesson provided me with this M&P 5.7 at no cost to review.
#SmithAndWessonAmbassador
Federal Premium provided me with ammunition for the review.

I really want one of these!

Excellent Review πŸ‘Œ Excited to see new innovative design. I would enjoy seeing more of this πŸ™ƒ

I give props to S&W for making a 5/7 pistol with a threaded barrel. FN still hasn’t done that yet. I have a Ghost M that would work with it.

I usually load new magazines and let them sit for a few days and let the springs take a bit of a set, prevents a lot of new magazine troubles. Good review πŸ‘

    Over $13 a mag. Damn.

    Thank you 😊

Breaking in the magazine to make the magazine reliable before range time is great advice. You are very fair in your assessment and this is a great review. Love your dog by the way. So cute.

    Cool video and informative tky

  9. GTP Productions on February 14, 2023 at 2:17 am

I bought the Ruger 57 pistol and carbine last year. I may have to add this one to my collection, I love this round! Thanks Ava and Peaches!

    Thank you 😊

  11. TheJHMAN1 on February 14, 2023 at 2:22 am

I have the Ruger and PSA Rock. I like the Rock better.

  12. Salty Larry on February 14, 2023 at 2:23 am

Got to handle one of these yesterday. Felt pretty good for a 5.7 (can’t avoid a certain amount of girth front to back with that cartridge). Sights, optics cut, and ergos seem well sorted out. Definitely wouldn’t mind having one!

  13. Ken Howard on February 14, 2023 at 2:24 am

I watched an extensive comparison of 5.7 to 9mm, and wish I could remember exactly why (it was performance-related), but the reviewer concluded he was going to stay with his 9 mm pistols. The lower recoil impulse and higher magazine capacity of the faster 5.7 round is appreciated, but evidently the 9 mm packs a usefully bigger punch.

    Good video thanks

  15. Wu Stax on February 14, 2023 at 2:25 am

So How much did you pay with tax about $700 I’m guessing ?

  16. Tim D on February 14, 2023 at 2:27 am

The 5.7×28 is a hand-held flamethrower. If you’re using it in low-light scenarios…. get some sunglasses lol.

  17. Phoenix Skeptic on February 14, 2023 at 2:27 am

Eva, to break in a stiff mag load and unload the mag (safely) a couple times. Don’t waste the ammo.

  18. Dana on February 14, 2023 at 2:28 am

Have the Ruger 57 and really like it. The M&P 57 has caught my eye. You are the only reviewer I’ve watched who pointed out the magazine concern. I appreciate that, forewarned means being prepared. The magazine assist that you showed is interesting and different from after market one I was able to pick up for the Ruger. The barrel fascinates me and I like the better Red Dot set up.

    Informative, throughout review!

  21. Trae Hinton on February 14, 2023 at 2:31 am

Ava is making me want to give S&W a second chance. Never liked their guns but this looks good

  22. Christopher Kartes on February 14, 2023 at 2:32 am

Chupacabra much? Maybe keep the mags fully loaded for a week or so before you hit the range,

  23. pj barney on February 14, 2023 at 2:34 am

did you notice any heat problems being a gas operating gun?… did it get hot shooting rapidly

  24. rotadyma on February 14, 2023 at 2:35 am

my concern is that rotating barrel gets a lot of friction with the slide and over time, I would be worried that there could be some wear that might affect function. Also, don’t want to be cleaning out a gas port every 200 rounds. This gun seems amazing but I think I’m going to opt for the PSA Rock.

  25. Karl hoffman on February 14, 2023 at 2:37 am

Do you think if you leave the mag loaded for a couple of days or more the mag would lossen up a little? Ive had to do this with shield arms mags for the glock 43x. just a idea. Oh and im going to buy one of these for sure. Like you said i think they hit it out of the park.

  26. Adrn Acad on February 14, 2023 at 2:37 am

    Glock should make a 5.7

  27. 22 cheapster on February 14, 2023 at 2:38 am

That barrel design is next level

  28. AkAllDay on February 14, 2023 at 2:39 am

The real question is Peaches partner Herb or Cream? lol

  29. Belicon on February 14, 2023 at 2:39 am

Just got mine i like it but im getting used to that hump on the back of the grip

excellent review Eva hope to see more of your reviews on more firearms

  32. Joshua Jackson on February 14, 2023 at 2:45 am

Got to check one of these out a few days ago at Scheels(probably the only FFL in North Texas that had one). Like what I’ve seen so far. Looking forward to renting it!

  33. Tim D on February 14, 2023 at 2:45 am

… Ava. Those Federal loads are FMJ. The Fiocchi loads are JHP’s (the black tip covers the hole you would normally see with FMJ’s). The polymer/polymer-carbonate tip is designed to not only improve external/terminal ballistic performance, but it’s primary use is to rapidly drive the jacket back to ensure fragmentation and to prevent clogging from foreign material upon impact.

  34. S&i on February 14, 2023 at 2:46 am

    I need one

  35. Saraph Darklaw on February 14, 2023 at 2:47 am

I always wanted to get into 5.7 but my hands are too small to comfortably wrap my hands around the grip. How much smaller is this grip compared to the FN?

  36. Bar 1putt on February 14, 2023 at 2:47 am

Thanks for another great video Ava (and Peaches) πŸ˜‚. I always enjoy your gun reviews. I voted for you numerous times for the Gundies. Best I can do. Good luck! πŸ”«β€οΈ

  37. Texas Road Warrior on February 14, 2023 at 2:47 am

    Haha that smile 😊

  38. Carl Paladino on February 14, 2023 at 2:48 am

I opted for the Ruger package LC Carbine an 57 pistol. Common mags. Am going to try the Smith when one gets local. Expensive ammo to waste at the range.

  39. Translate to English on February 14, 2023 at 2:51 am

I don’t need a firearm that jams after one round. I make trotline weights out of them.πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

  40. BillHimmel on February 14, 2023 at 2:52 am

Difference between S&W and Glock? Innovation!

  41. Robert Talbot on February 14, 2023 at 2:52 am

    First !

  42. Doogerauoy Sihtdaer on February 14, 2023 at 2:55 am

I can’t get over that huge ass gap between the slide and frame. Must be a S&W thing

  43. FN on February 14, 2023 at 2:55 am

I’ve owned the M&P40 and 380 EZ Performance Center which were plagued by magazine-induced feeding errors out of the box, which reduced my faith in their automatics as a whole – despite their overall positive reputation. I want to give their 5.7 a chance, so I appreciate the heads-up on the mag break-in.

  44. J&K Newb on February 14, 2023 at 2:59 am

Mind the gap… βœ“βœ“βœ“βœ“ ULTIMATE TOOL COMMENT AWARD!!!
EDIT: actually your slide looks better there is no gap? Unlike other 5.7 on YT I’ve seen unless I’m missing something here.

  45. Donnie Bunch on February 14, 2023 at 3:00 am

Maybe if you load, and unload the magazines a few times you wouldn’t have to waste the rounds breaking in the magazine.

  46. Jeffrey Locke on February 14, 2023 at 3:03 am

I turn off my red dot and just use my steel X/S tritium optic height sights on my own M&P 2.0 4.625 inch barrel 10mm with no safety lever. I like that more when qualifying for my open carry security guard license. I use a Holosun 508T red dot on my 10mm.

  47. Rafec Sabijon on February 14, 2023 at 3:04 am

    Nice πŸ‘πŸ½ gun

  48. Random Smart Guy on February 14, 2023 at 3:04 am

Shadow Systems DR920 War Poet pistol. Best on the market in my opinion.

  49. Nothin Fake on February 14, 2023 at 3:05 am

I don’t have a S&W. Yet. This is going to be my next new gift to me. Soon as I can find one that is. Thanks. Although I like your channel I didn’t need to be sold on this.

  50. Skiler Hall on February 14, 2023 at 3:05 am

My 507k does not fit on my smith and Wesson 5.7. Screws that come with the optic are not the right size. How are you guys mounting the optic? What size screws are being used?
