How to Replace The Sights On A Smith & Wesson M&P Pistol (HD)

How to Replace The Sights On A Smith & Wesson M&P Pistol (HD)

Here’s a video on installing aftermarket sights on your Smith & Wesson M&P pistols. I use the Shield as an example but the process is the same as on the regular size versions.

The punches used in the video are from Brownells and the sights are Ameriglo I.C.E CLAW sights.

Could I use a wood block or a nylon hammer to install push the sights in?

  2. Harry Courtright on June 13, 2022 at 7:00 pm

Are those ameriglo cap sights? If so I’m in the process of installing a set on my shield 45. My sight pusher only works with the rear sight unfortunately thus I found your video to show me how best to do the front until I can get an upgraded sight pusher for my personal shop. Thanks for spreading the knowledge.

    No lock tight?

  4. Scott Lefaivre on June 13, 2022 at 7:02 pm

I call bullshit. I’ve been banging away and the front sight won’t budge.

New to this. Could someone help me name the tools I’ll need for M&P 2.0 to add a red dot.

Love your videos, sir. For a gun newbie like myself, they definitely help a lot. Thank you.

  7. Evs Tatted on June 13, 2022 at 7:06 pm

I love my gun, but I really think the sights are a flaw on it. From takin them off to how it’s designed. Really terrible on their part.

  8. AO on June 13, 2022 at 7:06 pm

    Thank you for this

  11. FindingaBalance on June 13, 2022 at 7:10 pm

    He really doesn’t care anyway.

  12. Ghost on June 13, 2022 at 7:12 pm

What size wrench did you use to remove the set screw? Thanks.

  13. Stay Safe on June 13, 2022 at 7:12 pm

What size of the set screw that i need?. Im afraid to strip the screw.

  14. Eric Ward on June 13, 2022 at 7:14 pm

I have heard that it’s easier if you place your slide in the freezer overnight so the metal contracts & makes for an easier sight removal & replacement. Is this method legit or bullshit?

    Thanks man

  16. Jose Leon on June 13, 2022 at 7:17 pm

  20. UltraSteelios2010 on June 13, 2022 at 7:20 pm

Man I’m at wits end with my Shield front sight. Punches didn’t work, sight pusher didn’t work, nothing. Stock sight is looking hella beat up. I’m about to break out the dremel and cut that bastard off.

  21. koonjar on June 13, 2022 at 7:21 pm

yeah think Im gonna do it myself !!

  22. tbugher62 on June 13, 2022 at 7:22 pm

  23. Brandon Sweeney on June 13, 2022 at 7:29 pm

Im always finding more and more info on your channel. Thanks again saved me some cash and now I dont have to go with my primary carry.

  24. ECGS TV on June 13, 2022 at 7:30 pm

On the rear sight it’s easier from left to right, less chances of damaging the polymer striker block spring plate

  25. MrShysterme on June 13, 2022 at 7:31 pm

Great vid….but why can’t anything with guns be easy (except shooting them)?

  27. Kalskag on June 13, 2022 at 7:35 pm

Mine has a S&W logo where the set screw is supposed to be

  28. Eric Thomas on June 13, 2022 at 7:36 pm

I’m new to this and wanted to ask anyone if sights and dovetails are the same. Regardless if it’s this one or made for Glock. Thanks

  29. Randall Brown on June 13, 2022 at 7:38 pm

    Wood dowel for driving?

  30. strat1080 on June 13, 2022 at 7:38 pm

Sights should always be removed from left to right and installed from right to left.

  31. Eric Ward on June 13, 2022 at 7:39 pm

I just super glue mine on top of the old sights.

  32. Mj on June 13, 2022 at 7:42 pm

Do you need locktite on the front sight?

  33. Bruce on June 13, 2022 at 7:42 pm

Incorrect, this is what sight tools are made for, use the MGW sight tool or don’t do it at all

  34. That guy on June 13, 2022 at 7:42 pm

What keeps the front sight in place? Is it a friction fit or do you use thread locker or… ?

  35. christopher creech on June 13, 2022 at 7:42 pm

Beginning my gun hobby my stock sights weren’t working for me my visions not the best so I got some Trijicons and I’m going to install myself this video is good help seen a few videos of guys saying I had to spend several hundred on tools just to install my brighter sights lol

  36. MrShysterme on June 13, 2022 at 7:43 pm

I just had a gunsmith install tritium sights. I watched him use this method. He broke the glass vial on the front sight and now I have a dead sight. He isn’t taking responsibility. I am going to have to order a new set and have a gunsmith with a sight pusher put them on.

  37. A R on June 13, 2022 at 7:44 pm

Hack work at its finest. Use a freaking sight tool or don’t do the job!

  38. Mr. Lasagna on June 13, 2022 at 7:45 pm

Wish they still made these sights

  39. mada cro on June 13, 2022 at 7:45 pm

Just got sights for my plus and rewatched thus vid since I used it on my Gen 1! Old video but still super helpful! Thanks brother, and happy late Easter! (Quick question, do you still have the stang?)

  40. Efren V on June 13, 2022 at 7:45 pm

Mr Gunner, I’m looking for home defense night sights for my M&P 45 full-size it’s the model that Smith and Wesson first came out with. What would you personally recommend?

  41. Maniac RCmechanic on June 13, 2022 at 7:46 pm

    Very helpful. Thanks so much!

  42. Arizona Adam on June 13, 2022 at 7:47 pm

    Thanks for the tips!!!

  43. Bruce Silverman on June 13, 2022 at 7:48 pm

Thanks! Getting ready to install a set of Trijicon HDXR sights on my Shield M&P 40 and I found this video very helpful, especially the part about the spring under the rear sight…

  44. trekeo on June 13, 2022 at 7:52 pm

Is this the same for the m&p22 full size? Same sight size ?

  45. Robert Haun on June 13, 2022 at 7:52 pm

Nothing to add other than thanks for the clear, concise video. May the recommendation engine bless your channel.

  46. Life, Liberty, Knives on June 13, 2022 at 7:53 pm

Nice vid. My local gunshop doesn’t do shields because they say they’re too hard to do and they don’t want to damage the gun. Looked pretty easy from your demo though.

  47. koonjar on June 13, 2022 at 7:53 pm

thank you youre the first video ive seen were you actually measured them to make sure they were centered !!

  48. John Bowes on June 13, 2022 at 7:54 pm

I’m looking at adding the newer Truglo Brite-Site Fiber Optic sites. I don’t know that I’d want to be banging on them with a punch, and damaging the ‘gas tubes’…

  49. DU3L CITIZ3N on June 13, 2022 at 7:55 pm

I installed my xs big dot sights this way… years ago… today during a course after a few hundred rounds my front sight shifted all the way to the left. I even had some red loctight around it. Any ideas on how to secure it so it doesn’t move under heavy fire. I may take it into a gun smith.

  50. Luis Rodriguez on June 13, 2022 at 7:57 pm

Thanks, but forgot to show from the begining how to take the slide out+
