Henry U.S. Survival Rifle – Overview and First Impressions

The Henry US Survival Rifle AR-7 .22lr by Henry Repeating Arms has always intrigued me. I had never owned one until now. This is my impressions of the little rifle that could.

1:50-2:05 Finally, someone clarifies the term "AR." Subscribed just because of this.

1st, im a liberal..either way, ya gotta be smart to own a good survival weapon, my bugout pack is ready, also have a sw40 pistol, my SKS is CRAZY expensive and heavy to shoot. Considered keltek cmr30 22mag but its not as reliable as ar7.πŸ˜ŽπŸ‘

  5. Tracey Walker on November 29, 2021 at 12:20 am

My California "AR"..the Henry X mod .44 mag with O light and Ranger Point Precision cloverleaf peep sights. Fit, finish just super. Mine (Henryetta) shot to point of aim at 50 yards "right out of the box". Excellent ending to the vid!!

That was an excellent video and the ending made it great! Thank you Buffalo!

sould I own one and store it, I would be tempted to seal with tape around the butt and have those silica moisture absorbing pads like the ones found in pill bottles.

Definitely need some small games targets next time , rabbits, squirrel , even birds . But good video (don’t forget to zoom in ) (it’s a older video I know ) but will pretty well done

Imagine if you have some targets set up along that creek and see how many you can get paddling or floating down the creek (24 rounds 24 targets with a variety of sides )

    😳😳😳

Thanks for the great video! If you really cant shoot much better than hitting a 6 inch plate from 30 yards, I would recommend you get checked for distance prescription glasses. With my glasses I could hit that plate from 200 yards easy, without Id probably be about 50 yards

My idea of a survival rifle is a Model 82A1 – Barrett. Just saying . But this AR7 would sure be better than nothing.

13:00 It looks like the barrel is off-set to the right relative to the stock centerline. Does it feel ok holding and shooting left-handed?

  18. Pat Malloy on November 29, 2021 at 12:33 am

I Remember when you could buy this rifle from JCP mail order for $79.99. I’ve never heard it described as an assault rifle.

Love the channel and great review but I still like the Chiappa Little Badger. Henry makes great guns this one just seems a little to goofy for me.

I’VE SEEN THIS IN GUN SHOPS FOR MONTHS & NEVER REALLY CONSIDERED IT…..TILL NOW!!

Invite those boys back and do a little pickin ! How good are you at archery? ;^)

  26. Aaron Friedman on November 29, 2021 at 12:41 am

    Great review.
I don’t understand why you had to take a ‘pot shot’ at liberals as the people who make the AR naming mistake… plenty of misinformed people on all sides of the the spectrum. As a liberal gun owner I will never understand why good-ol-boys think that us on the more science/engineering type can’t understand boom-sticks. That’s just ignorant.

  27. R. Akers on November 29, 2021 at 12:43 am

I own 2 of these made by ArmaLite in the early 1960’s. One is nearly unfired, the other I have fired more than 20,000 rounds through. I examined and fired one of the Henry version at the range. The Henry version is better in many ways, most of which you mentioned. Thanks! They don’t require a lot of tweaking to make them feed reliably, and I believe they are less fussy about ammo. That heavy trigger return click is due to some early "cook off" problems with the AR versions.

  34. OldPackMule on November 29, 2021 at 12:55 am

Ha! The deliverance ending was great. I know it’s not a tack driver but how about an accuracy test for that rifle at 50 yards?

  39. Wabbit1961 on November 29, 2021 at 1:02 am

Like you said, that rifle is plenty good enough to put dinner on the table. I’m from Missouri and I became quite expert with my Crossman 766 at hunting squirrel and rabbit. My friends all had .22 rifles and I was a better shot with my pellet rifle. I would always tease them saying at least I’m giving the rabbit an even chance. That’s when I was 12.

Bought the Henry version of the AR-7 maybe 15 years ago (I’m 60 now). Love that thing. I bought the third mag to have it at full capacity. Take it to the gun range and always get people around me. Easy to clean. Eats crap ammo for breakfast. Still looks new. I’ve probably put 20,000 rounds through it and never had an issue. I still use it for rabbit, squirrel, and opossum. THAT’S A SURVIVAL RIFLE!

I remember seeing this rifle in the Sears catalog back in the 1970s.
