A very specialized gunsmithing job is reboring a rifle barrel to a larger caliber. Watch along as Larry Potterfield, Founder and CEO of MidwayUSA, demonstrates the process of reboring and rechambering a Winchester 1885 Low Wall (made in 1891) from the long obsolete caliber of 32 rimfire to 357 Magnum.

  22. Anthony Williams on October 28, 2021 at 9:04 pm

Would have preferred a little bit of info about the proofing process to ensure the barrel will take the increased pressure but otherwise very informative, never seen a rifling tool before and still no clue how it works but honesty not what I was expecting it to look like

For those who are interested Delta Gun Shop no longer does reboring. Jim passed away a few years ago.

  32. Richard Hungwell on October 28, 2021 at 9:14 pm

That’s a really cool process, but I can’t help but think it would probably be more economical to just get a new barrel.

  33. Evan Harrison on October 28, 2021 at 9:14 pm

You kind of jumped over the boring parts.

  36. Patrick Radcliffe on October 28, 2021 at 9:16 pm

Going to all the trouble of reboring the gun for a new caliber, at that point may as go the full enchilada and reblued it. My take is all the value as a antique is gone when he rechambered for .357, may as well make her the bell of ball.

  37. stuarth43 on October 28, 2021 at 9:17 pm

you said that you reamed the chamber in 100 thou steps, this is 2.5mm, have you got yoit math right

they only show some little bits of the process of re calibrating the gun from 22 cal to 357 of the barrel up to the firing pin bcuz of youtube law standard but still informative and also quite frustrating at the same time

  44. cal30m1 on October 28, 2021 at 9:23 pm

Aren’t you concerned the chamber pressure of the 32 rim fire is considerably less than the chamber pressure of the 357 magnum?
