Firearms control bill | Government says the proposed law will help reduce crime

The Draft Firearms Control Amendment Bill which was published in the Government Gazette last week continues to draw mixed reactions from various concerned parties. The draft Bill – which has already received over 17 000 written submissions – partly aims to remove self-defence as a reason for applying for a firearm amongst other things. The Police Ministry says it is encouraged by the public’s participation in the process and has assured the public that it is not meant to disarm citizens, but will instead assist in preventing the death of hundreds of women in the hands of their abusers inside their own homes. But, the proposed amendments have become somewhat of a sore point for some civil rights groups and citizens, with those who are vehemently opposed to it already resorting to an online petition. Police Minister Bheki Cele shares more.

This ban is based on pure speculations that one might cause harm and not based on facts! So if one taxi caused the death of 27 people then all taxis must be removed as it is a danger to all making use of taxi’s….

For the past 10 decades the South African government failed to collect all illegal fire arms, how then now are they going to make sure that all the guns are collected with an aim of reducing Crime? Cele does not know what he is talking about.

Politicians in power are so dumb we the people can do a better job than this excuse of a man. No research has been done here…just and excuse for these communists to further their socialism.

  19. MILC0M on November 29, 2021 at 9:21 pm

This Bill has nothing to do to stop crime. The ANC is a criminal organization and they are about to do things that they know that the public will shoot them for it

  20. Lian van den Heever on November 29, 2021 at 9:21 pm

What is the state of knife crimes in Botswana , Japan and Australia ?

  21. MILC0M on November 29, 2021 at 9:23 pm

The private firearms that end up in the hands of criminals comes from SAPS that were handed in for destruction by the public

  22. Ulric Ogle on November 29, 2021 at 9:25 pm

So what he was saying that he wants to "right" the fact that majority white persons are legal firearm owners which they "government" want to rectify by taking removal of their rights to ownership of a firearm for self defence 6:30

  23. Wyckoff & Smart money on November 29, 2021 at 9:26 pm

They should just take the knives as well, because technically speaking, more people are stabbed than shot, and if he really did his research he would know this, 6/10 in the township get stabbed than shot, it’s a fact…you know they should take them knives as well, it makes no sense at all that they are doing this and dont even protect the communities, if they were doing their jobs I would understand why they are doing this, but try reporting a crime in progress right now, they’ll just tell you that the cars are not available yet they are just a few meters from the scene, can I get an Amen!!!!!!

  24. Shaun on November 29, 2021 at 9:29 pm

Just look at London. The people can’t have guns so knives crime is the problem there. This is going to backfire.

They cannot think and they are criminals.
They are clueless and some of the laziest humans on the planet.

The things I want to write but can’t because this is the internet…

  29. ThaboK on November 29, 2021 at 9:33 pm

Your research is far from reality Ndosi.. you’re being misinformed.. why don’t you focus on making it impossible to access illegal firearms.. law abiding citizens are getting endangered.. rather give us a fighting chance… you’re understaffed anyway ๐Ÿคท๐Ÿฟโ€โ™‚๏ธ

  30. Make The Switch to N on November 29, 2021 at 9:33 pm

No ones taking the public’s guns without being killed. Danged border wide open with armed cartel. Anyone seeking to disarm citizens will b murdered for disobeying the Constitution meant to protect ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ citizens.

  31. Gideon Muller on November 29, 2021 at 9:35 pm

I would love to see the evidence and report on the research Bheki refers to. But they will not share it or agree to a debate, they know facts will show the blackhole of their โ€œresearchโ€. This is bloody insane and a typical communist move to control citizens. As SA citizens we should stand up united against this craziness.

  32. Revival Hlongwane on November 29, 2021 at 9:35 pm

What about someone attacking you with a knife? How do you defend yourself?

  33. MILC0M on November 29, 2021 at 9:36 pm

Sure the criminals will line up to hand in their illegal firearms LOL

  34. J van Niekerk on November 29, 2021 at 9:38 pm

That’s exactly what was said when the dreaded restrictive FCA of 2000 came into implementation. Yet it did the opposite. Now we have to take the word of a man that got fired from SAPS in 2013 for stealing money? Cele has lost all credibility through the years and ordinary citizens don’t have time for him , his blatant incompetence and absolute delinquent behavior.

  35. Stiaan Kruger on November 29, 2021 at 9:39 pm

Mr Cele in both Japan and Botswana murder is punishable by the death penalty, rather do that research and align the laws to international standards.

  36. TC on November 29, 2021 at 9:41 pm

The police should be finding illegal firearms that criminals are using. Bheki Cele should be focusing on gangsters that killing people and not being prosecuted. These gangsters should get the death penalty.

  37. Jean-Paul Theron on November 29, 2021 at 9:43 pm

If the government forces us as citizens to give up our legal right to defend our families we will be be forced to buy illegal weapons from the SAPS like the gangsters do

  38. Thabang Mulaudzi on November 29, 2021 at 9:44 pm

    Minister is a liar

  39. Spolle on November 29, 2021 at 9:46 pm

Most gun owners in SA are black, not white. And not everyone in this country can afford private (armed!) security like Mr Cele. Whatโ€™s more, letโ€™s not forget that the police are the ones selling guns to gangsters. Cele in 100% incompetent and should be fired. He has no clue what heโ€™s doing and no experience in the police service. Heโ€™s going after soft targets because he has absolutely failed at his job. The fact that Cyril appointed this fool immediately brings his judge of character into question.

  42. MILC0M on November 29, 2021 at 9:50 pm

Can you imagine the anarchy in South Africa if only goverment has access to firearms… Police and Defence Force ???………

  43. Esmond Msimango on November 29, 2021 at 9:51 pm

Is this idiot of a minister a joke? He deserves to be fired

  44. Vinnie Cosa Nostra on November 29, 2021 at 9:52 pm

Criminals r celebrating now.as we speak ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™‚๏ธooh! My word what hv we done to this government really

  45. Mawande Letsima on November 29, 2021 at 9:53 pm

Having a Minister that has a premature thinking and this bill is also premature firstly most people who get disarmed on a daily basis security guards, there people who possess a firearm solely for self defence for years but no 1 knows thats why is called conceal carry. Bheki cele can he first take all illegally firearms and take firearms from Police officials who get drunk and get disarmed. The right to life and the right to security assist the firearm control act to become a right to own a firearm. we even get disarmed by police officials. what about those who work at gun shops? our government is really insane mostly Bheki Cele

  46. sikholiwe masango on November 29, 2021 at 9:53 pm

This ANC government is sick. Legal guns are not involved in crime. Its the porous borders you are suppose to control. This is what american democrats are up to NWO idea so that it would be easier to takeaway our rights cos we won’t be able to defend ourselves. You take away legal guns then its easy for the government to impose illegal curfews etc

  47. MILC0M on November 29, 2021 at 9:53 pm

How much is Gun Free South Africa and Soros paying you Cele

  48. Renado Baartman on November 29, 2021 at 9:56 pm

This guy is an idiot. He is literally the only one stupid enough to start a civil war. Imagine if cops come to take away people’s licensed guns, what will happen? Everyone is just going to just shoot at those cops.

  49. Lian van den Heever on November 29, 2021 at 9:56 pm

Which company did the research ? Is this company a reputable researching company ? Why are so many illegal guns used in crime ? Why are the SANDF and SAPS losing so many rifles ?

  50. Calvin Purdy on November 29, 2021 at 9:57 pm

So if self defense is not a reason for applying for a license, what other reason would be accepted? what absolute BULLSHIT. is there no end to the folly of these cretins?
