Firearms Control Bill | Bill triggers debate

Gun-Free South Africa is urging those directly affected by gun violence – including children – to have a say on the Firearms Control Amendment Bill. The Bill seeks, among other things, to deny firearms licences for self-defence. Gun Free South Africa supports the bill and says owning a firearm is a privilege, not a right. eNCA speaks to Gun Free South Africa Director Adele Kirsten. Courtesy #DStv403

Gun free SA have been paid off buy the ANC. If the government/police are unable to defend our lives, then we have the right to defend our lives and our family’s.

I wonder if she is paying for armed response at her house?? With the crime stats of SA I can not rely on security services when it comes to my family’s life. I hope that she never need the assistance of an armed neighbor or fellow South African, because Im sure any gun owner would just look the other way. And the gun problem starts at the SAPS and SANDF selling and stealing firearms. NOT the disciplined gun owner who has to wait months on months for receiving a firearm license

This in the Rape and murder capital of the world! This is absolutely crazy. In a gunfree RSA only criminals wil have fire arms…

  8. Bertram Hall on December 3, 2021 at 9:34 pm

Concentrate on getting rid of the unlicensed guns in the country and those syndicates selling guns to unlicensed individuals and stop wasting time on more and more laws negatively affecting the law abiding citizens. Also let’s hear more about the RESPONSIBILITIES of people and less about rights.

  9. Premilà John on December 3, 2021 at 9:34 pm

Yes it’s a privilege to own a gun in south africa a very special privilege indeed!this special privilege is only accorded to criminals n law abiding citizens do not av the right to defend themselves!

This woman is deluded. She’s never experienced violent crime. If she had and she realized that the police can’t be there to save her she would change her tune.

  11. Speckled Trim on December 3, 2021 at 9:37 pm

Please talk about gun control when SAPS has crime under control. Now is the worst time to debate this topic because we have no faith in police to protect us and our children. I’m telling you now, this is a ticking time bomb and we will NOT go gun-free. You can tattoo that on your forehead and have it removed when the police proves themselves competent and able. Otherwise go fly a kite in your gun-free backyard. #NotInterested

Lower crime then there won’t be as much of a need for Self Defence

Wtf the police can’t keep us safe so we are not allowed to own a hand gun but criminals have r4 and r5 and ak74 so u want criminals to rule this country

    But minors can’t vote….

  16. Myles Joseph on December 3, 2021 at 9:45 pm

The safest country in the world is also the country with the most armed citizens in the world, so your static is not true.

I do not believe the proposed ammendments will pass. This woman most likely live in an area relatively uneffected by dangers. She must have enough time to waste other peoples time enough to even be noticed.

  18. Bill Freeman on December 3, 2021 at 9:51 pm

    Gun free are idiots.

  19. 1911GreaterThanALL on December 3, 2021 at 9:52 pm

If guns are not useful for self defense or defense in general why do the military and police have then I wonder?

  20. Henry G on December 3, 2021 at 9:53 pm

Take away illegal guns. That is where you miss the pot. If you take away guns from good people. The bad people with the guns will take over even more.

  21. Adrian Jones on December 3, 2021 at 9:53 pm

Absolute klaptrap- the deterent effect is high and the right to defend oneself commensuratly against attack is recognised in law – don’t come with BS here – muddying the waters – the state is the biggest leak of illegal firearms and most are used in crimes its not licensed owners robbing and stealing and killing – we cant fight guns with knives and not also while state sponsors the enablement of violence against and between its own citizens- don’t tip toe around this we must blast this message full speed and vehemently -yes they want us disarmed so that the next coup like in july there will be no resistance and police again will be absent in other words we need arms to protect us against yes criminals but also the state- and that is why they want us disarmed: in the us for example arms are a right, the natural right of resistance and self-preservation, when the sanctions of society and laws are found insufficient to restrain the violence of oppression. And clearly in SA we cannot rely on government to protect us – just look at crime stats its obvious – and look at the inaction in july and the fact that we had to fend for ourselves aginst criminals that do have guns – this is one law we must not just brush off – the reason for it is not for our protection its for nefarious ends by essentially a criminal state

There is something seriously wrong with you. Data….share all your dta with us on the next interview. You and your minions must be the most delusional bunch ever to have a voice that makes no sense. Guns….not a single gun is an easy process to get from purchasing to eventually getting the license. Let’s use this example for you. If a legal gun owner has his firearms safely stored and is a victim (a VICTIM) of a home invasion, his or her family threatened and by some means a legal firearm is stolen from the safe when the CRIMINALS hold a knife to your child’s throat are you blaming the legal gun owner. Guns don’t kill people….people kill people. Just like pens don’t fail exams….the student usining it fails. About a week ago criminals took over a police station, locked the police in their own van and then stole R5 assault rifles and other firearms. So you….Smiling away and rather clueless….think the SA Police can protect SA citizens. Go give them a call and check their response time just as a test. Also note that the criminals walk around with mostly stolen police firearms and commit crime so if my wife (or anyone else’s loved one) is attacked and deprived of owning a firearm for self defense due to your organisation that you must have started as a hobby (ever heard of collecting stamps or something?) I only think it is fair that you be charged as an accomplice. Why not? You don’t seem to fathom that the criminals are the problem not LEGAL firearm owners. Your ignorance just has no limits when one has to listen to you babbling away and, dare I say, even seem confused at times.

  23. KillingItForYears on December 3, 2021 at 9:54 pm

Citizens owning firearms is the only thing keeping the mob from raiding homes (they go for soft targets instead such as shops and malls).

  24. Leonard Liebenberg on December 3, 2021 at 9:55 pm

Why would you take a firearm from law abiding citizen. Criminals don’t care.

  25. T K on December 3, 2021 at 10:00 pm

Owning a gun is not a right indeed, but it is also not a privilege. It is a freedom matter, afforded to anyone who qualifies to exercise their freedom. Freedom cannot be taken away from anyone. Rights and privileges can be limited, but freedom can’t be regulated. It is not the job of the state nor anyone to tell anyone how to live out their freedom. Owning a gun is like owning any dangerous thing we are free to own in a free society.

Adults have seen through the GFSA nonsense, so let’s use children to tell the adults what they can or cannot do. Upside Down World

  27. Jonathan Herman on December 3, 2021 at 10:05 pm

    She is delusional…

  28. cameraflyer on December 3, 2021 at 10:05 pm

Guns are not effective for self defense??? Typical.

  29. Chris Bennett on December 3, 2021 at 10:06 pm

During the 20th century, the human government murdered 260 000 000 people. So why does the most dangerous thing ever created by humans – the government – have any right to decide on civilians owning any weapons? Its a privilege not a right for the State to own any weapons, a privilege granted by the people who never lose their RIGHT to weapons
