GX4 is having issues with the delayed striker issue. Pass

  2. Jim the Gatekeeper on April 14, 2023 at 3:32 am

I love Taurus pistols! I own 4 so far and they’ve proven reliable. I carry a G3c as my edc with over 1200 rounds and 0 malfunctions. Want a GX4 for better concealment, My G3c with the 15rd G3 mag prints a little more than I like.

  3. Floyd McCarty on April 14, 2023 at 3:34 am

Smith= worth every dime! Taurus certainly worth the time! Smith neatly sophisticated! Taurus simply neat!

  4. darkstarunderground on April 14, 2023 at 3:34 am

I’ve owned the G2C now for about a year and a half with over 2000 flawless rounds through it. Just picked up a GX4 for $320 total shipped out the door. It literally just got here today and I’m excited to take it to the range asap. I’ll need to get a couple of the 13 rd mag conversions and maybe an extra 13 rd magazine. I have smaller hands and the grip still isn’t quite enough for me with the 11 round stock magazine. Its $5 for an extension and $10 for the conversion kit directly from Taurus so may as well go for it.. So far that’s the only issue I can see.

I’m looking forward to the release of a mid compact or full size version of this gun that is optics ready…I know its coming soon. That will be my next purchase from Taurus.

    Front serrations are useless

I am looking at Taurus GX4, Smith & Wesson M&P Shield Plus, and Ruger Max9. I need sights if I go with the GX4 or Shield Plus as I have issues with white dot sights. Can someone in this forum give recommendations on what combination to buy for each of the pistols? It is not an issue with the Max9 as it comes with fiber optic sights. Thanks!

If Taurus would put a good finish on the regular matte black guns they would be great nice to see the cerkoted versions.

  8. Chris Sinclair on April 14, 2023 at 3:39 am

Pissed I haven’t seen Taurus GX4 high cap mags.

SW has been hard to find too.

  9. Bruce Jenner on April 14, 2023 at 3:41 am

Just got my GX4 for $320 OTD. Very happy with it, no optic cut needed for this class of pistol.

  10. Three60Crusader on April 14, 2023 at 3:42 am

    Shield plus easy….

  11. Bill Whitmire on April 14, 2023 at 3:43 am

The Shield Plus is extremely comparable to the G3c
The new Canik MC9 is extremely closer to the Taurus G3c

    Personally I carry a GX4 with a 13rd mag or a GX4 XL TORO with a optic and 13rd mag
My EDC pistols … not only because they are cost effective… but they are the best options .. by far
The MC9 is the only one that has a better trigger … but its the size of the G3C …

  12. Johnnie Lashley on April 14, 2023 at 3:44 am

I own both and the Shield Plus is the better gun. I love my GX4 also but the Plus is made a lot better, better finish ect.

  13. Lilnasty 2988 on April 14, 2023 at 3:45 am

    GX4 🤘🏼👍🏻

  14. 34dawgsgo on April 14, 2023 at 3:46 am

If already owned the Plus would seem silly to purchase the GX4. Have an infatuation with Micro 9’s. Not really sold on folks that say they rotate their carry pistols. Yes maybe for Winter and Summer based on clothing type.

  15. M Gabriel on April 14, 2023 at 3:47 am

You do great comparison vids. keep on…

  16. Richard Herscher on April 14, 2023 at 3:48 am

Just got my shield plus on July 17th. Returned to factory on the next day. The thing was absolutely unusable from day 1. Biggest lemon in history!! Every defect it could have, it tid have! IT HAD THEM ALL!
Wouldn’t feed and jammed every shot, 100% of the time with both mags and 2 ammo brands, striker failed 30% of the time and would not extract fired casses. What a loser. How could this junker make it out of the factory and where is quality control? Avoid s&w, thier quality is gone to hell and the "master craftsmen" at the Performance Center are putting out crap.

  17. Los USMC on April 14, 2023 at 3:50 am

I got the Gx4 with bronze slide for 300.00 feels good great size for concealment 11/13 rds glock compatible sights great trigger the GX4 is a win win.

  18. J NMRN on April 14, 2023 at 3:52 am

I would say this review is pretty biased. About 1 1/2 ounce difference in weight and he makes the Shield sound like an anchor. He also literally demonstrates a noticeable difference in second stage trigger creep and declares them the same. The most important comparison would be a 1000 round dependability test to see if the Taurus has the same dependability issues that have plagued many of the other models.

  19. Daniel Rodriguez on April 14, 2023 at 3:52 am

Anyone not picking the Shield obviously does not shoot enough to enjoy the softness of the Smith shooting. And several places have it for $428. And it comes with 2 mags not 1.
    And that trigger is ridiculous

  21. Lamar Walker on April 14, 2023 at 3:54 am

    Shield + $559 that’s not a budget

  22. Jwings on April 14, 2023 at 3:55 am

I picked up the shield plus for 475.00 so the price is coming down. Personally I think it comes down to which gun is best for you. The shield feels better in my hand and I shoot it better. I like the trigger on the shield plus better and the extra capacity mag is a bonus too. Although not a big deal I didn’t like that you need a tool to take down the Taurus. Over all I don’t think you can go wrong with either one.

  23. Rick Balch on April 14, 2023 at 3:57 am

Thank you for doing these comparisons since I do own a Taurus GX4 now and I want to know if I made the right decision. I also appreciate the non bias reporting you are presenting on these.

  24. Dan H on April 14, 2023 at 3:57 am

I had the shield plus a week after it released. Shot fine, good trigger. Problem is, I get bored easy. After 1 trip to the range and 40 rounds….I was bored. Sold it off.
Just picked dup GX4 yesterday, haven’t shot it yet, and I’m not a Taurus guy….. but I really like it this far

***Update. Shot great at the range. Ordered 13 round mag extension. Awesome gun for the money. Highly recommend

  25. Dan Sigmon on April 14, 2023 at 3:58 am

    Great comparison review.

intro sound was WAAAAY too loud

  27. Justin Snow on April 14, 2023 at 3:59 am

Pinky hangs off get the pinky extension from lake line. Problem solved. I’d take the gx4 and save money for ammo!

  28. Timothy Bagrowski on April 14, 2023 at 4:00 am

Owning a Shield .40, I was very interested in the Plus Shield, but ended up going with the GX4 for $200 less, price was a major factor for me. Owning several other Taurus and S&W’s the Taurus is just every bit as good as the S&W IMO, I can’t speak for the plus trigger since my shield is gen 1 with a crappy hinged trigger, but I can say the GX4 trigger is very sweet.

I definitely don’t regret going with the GX4, maybe someday I’ll find a used Plus at a reasonable price.
I have a feeling with Taurus stepping up their game in the past 5 years is going to make these other manufacturers step up their pricing game, at least I hope so. Right now you can buy a G3c with 3 mags for $250 or less if you shop around, that’s half of the S&W and just every bit as good.

  29. Guy Noir on April 14, 2023 at 4:04 am

If the GX4 came with at least one 13 round mag it would’ve been better .
I own both guns and didn’t think I would like the Taurus as much as I do . My thoughts are The Taurus is lighter and slightly smaller but I had to order two 13 round mags , it digested many different brands of ammo perfectly , the trigger guard may be longer but it’s way shorter from top to bottom and pinches my finger under the trigger upon release , slight sanding took care of that .The Shield plus – I had to do file work on the slide stop lever to have a slide release , it will not function on the first round with some ammo if the 13 round mag is full with one in the chamber , it’s slightly thinner , it has perfect ergonomics for me , I shoot it more accurately , the trigger is better .
I’ve been switching back and forth and may continue on . A little work or cost never determined a carry for me , it’s whatever it takes , after all look what it’s for .

Taurus is firing on all cylinders here, both are excellent choices

  31. Dave A on April 14, 2023 at 4:07 am

I own both, along with a P365. The Taurus is my favorite, the Shield is my least favorite. I ended up indefinitely loaning the Shield to my dad to bring his carry game into this century (vs a Charter Arms all steel 38 spl snubby he’s been carrying for years)

    Edit

Also, the GX4 trigger does get lighter the more you pull the trigger. Mine started at 7lbs and is now 4.5 lbs. Tested with my Lymann gauge.

  32. Augustus Heyliger on April 14, 2023 at 4:08 am

    Can’t believe I am saying this …GX4 …size… trigger…capacity…then price…yea Taurus killed this!!

  35. Ervin Finney on April 14, 2023 at 4:13 am

Smith and Wesson is reliable and proven. Taurus GX4 is questionable.

  36. R.A. on April 14, 2023 at 4:14 am

Great Review ! Thank you ! do you a Review with GX4 vs P365?

  37. Serenity Serenity on April 14, 2023 at 4:15 am

Is there a tourist that you don’t need a tool to take it down

  38. CHASE on April 14, 2023 at 4:15 am

I LOVE the trusty GX4, but as of 12/28 there are NO companies that make a light for it. A couple make lasers, but I can’t believe that at least Streamlight doesn’t have a TL-6 to fit it.

  39. wreckagevic on April 14, 2023 at 4:15 am

Held the GX4 but ultimately chose the Shield Plus as I’ve had more familiarity with the 2.0 series.

  40. cluck bent on April 14, 2023 at 4:17 am

    lol taurus sux!

  41. themauldens on April 14, 2023 at 4:17 am

I bought both because both were running specials at the same time! I picked up a new GX4 for $217 after rebate and a new Shield Plus for $305 after rebate.

  42. Al Lo on April 14, 2023 at 4:18 am

My issue with Taurus G-series models is the poor quality finish on the slides. If they did something like the Shield coating and bumped the price, the Taurus would be a better buy. Just my opinion.

  43. Preacher Beeman on April 14, 2023 at 4:18 am

No tool needed for takedown on the Taurus. Use the brass of a round. Works fine.

  50. The REAL John Doe on April 14, 2023 at 4:29 am

Gx4 for the win all day. Better trigger and better built. Shield plus size is more of G3c and loses to that also. Heck for the price of the Shield you can get the Gx4 and the G3c
