Are "Magazine Fed" Shotguns for You? – TheFirearmGuy

Are “Magazine Fed” shotguns for you? In this video, I brought out a Remington 870 DM (detachable mag) pump action 12 gauge shotgun and a Rock Island Armory VR80 mag fed semi-auto gas piston 12 gauge shotgun. The Rock Island VR80 also accepts a 19 round magazine that performed great. How do you feel about these two “mag fed” shotguns?

Detachable magazine fed shotguns are great

until you take the cost of the magazines, the weight, and the design of the shotgun being carried, into consideration

You can’t have more fun with a shotgun than that VR80 with that 19 round magazine. Maybe with the 20 round drum you might. Went out with buddies shooting ARs, pistols etc. their favorite? My VR80. Period.

  5. Herb on November 6, 2021 at 7:10 pm

Do they have them in 410?

I have quite a collection of shotguns and feel a box magazine fed shotgun is for the range or your primary defense system that you can have an entire rig set up and much much practice, instruction, and drills. Tube fed semi auto or reliable pump action for hunting. Reliable pump action for certain sectors of home defense. My thoughts only here.

What is the price of 19 round 12 bore shotgun

  15. 1776.REVIVAL on November 6, 2021 at 7:20 pm

Yes they are great, however I think with the pump style mag fed it just adds more to the guns size that’s isn’t needed.. for me, autoloader mag fed is all I buy but I still prefer a pump with extended tube.. but that’s just me.. great video, loved itπŸ‘πŸ‘

I’m looking for a box fed 20 gauge semi-auto shotgun. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, I live in California, if that matters.

I like both mag & pump

  29. Chebva Romero on November 6, 2021 at 7:40 pm

Hey Dan. My 19 round 12 gauge magazine is not feeding properly. I looks like the shell is not angling up enough and gets caught on the front of the feed ramp. Should I widen the steel feed lips by hand to accommodate the feeding problems? Possible video topic here.

  30. Paul Balogh on November 6, 2021 at 7:40 pm

I have an ATI version of the VR. Same mag. They are all Turk MFG so thus the mags are all cousins and multi fit, if you live in Alabama….. yee haa. I have many 10 round mags for 3” shells & multi 19+ mags for 2 3/4 double O Uh O suppression fire πŸ”₯ fun.

  31. Mr. Fumble Fingers on November 6, 2021 at 7:40 pm

Remington screwed their customer’s by discontinuing the 870 DM magazines. A box fed shotgun without a box.

    Rock Island Armory VR80…beast!

  35. Bill K on November 6, 2021 at 7:45 pm

I have an original 870 wing master from the first gen run, and it shoots just as good as it did 70 years ago! It was my father’s and I am oldest so I got it first. Used it last year for deer season and at 50 yards it’s still dead on! No scope, no rifling barrel, just a plain Jane shotgun, and I can shoot it just like I did at hunter’s safety in 1979! 5 for 5 in trap, dead nuts at 50 with slugs, tho it hurt a bit back then!

  36. Tommy Gun on November 6, 2021 at 7:46 pm

  38. Chebva Romero on November 6, 2021 at 7:47 pm

Hey Dan, I just received a Armelegant ANG4 and I got that same 19 round mag. That magazine costed me $75. I hope it cycles well for me.

  43. Krzysztof Bosak on November 6, 2021 at 7:54 pm

The mag is a perfect choice for close quarters combat by itself.

  44. Dr. Alexander Hamilton on November 6, 2021 at 7:55 pm

is that mag legal? thinking 18 uscr 922r

  45. thebubba1 on November 6, 2021 at 7:56 pm

That gigantic mag looks completely stupid

  46. Chebva Romero on November 6, 2021 at 7:57 pm

If I wanted to shoot a 3 inch shell, do I have to load them in 1 at a time? Since the mags are 2 3/4 inch only. Thanks buddy.

  47. maverick plankton squash on November 6, 2021 at 7:58 pm

    extended mag isnt extended enough

  48. Jeff Long on November 6, 2021 at 7:58 pm

Cool shotgun’s. Even though I prefer my over and under and my sweet sixteen browning I won’t mind using a box fed as long as it gets the job done is what matters at the end of the day

  49. Mike Mike on November 6, 2021 at 7:58 pm

There is a 20 round drum mag out there to

  50. Zachary Pappalardo on November 6, 2021 at 7:59 pm
