Apex trigger in the M&P 2.0, is it worth it?
Apex trigger in the M&P 2.0, is it worth it?
We were asked our opinion on the Apex Trigger in the M&P 2.0 Compact. While this is a great trigger we don’t feel the difference is significant.
What magic / work does bggunworks do to your M2.0 triggers?
Can you please elaborate on the “trigger magic” (from BG Gunworks) you recommend applying to the stock trigger? Are you referring to changing out the factory springs with different ones?
What is the magic they do to your gun or is it a secret? 🤔
I have the 5in fde with just a tritium from sight. Im still deciding on this trigger
In summary, you’re not recommending the Apex on the M&P 2.0 but do recommend it on the 1.0 (first generation)?
You’re getting less tactile and audible feedback because it seems like you only changed [literally] only the actual trigger in lieu of the entire kit. Swap it out for the full FFTFSS kit that has the box with the springs and sear, etc and it should be a even more vastly different and better experience. Or, alternatively, the Apex trigger shoe or whatever’s installed in the compact with the Apex reset assist mechanism (RAM) kit and it’ll give the distinct and defined tactile and audible reset you want and probably more in terms of the more positive trigger reset. Shooting cadence, splits, et al, might even see improvements.
Had to switch to apex. I hate the hinged stock trigger. I guess it is a preference issue especially if you are used to the Glock type trigger
Anyone have experience with just the apex trigger shoe without the entire kit?
I really hate the original m&p trigger…apex 4ever
Feeling trigger reset between shots is overrated. It will give you the bad habit of pinning the trigger to the rear, slowing down your splits.
im buying the kit with the polymer trigger shoe just for the shoe im not changing anything else
I see a lot of You Tubers recommending changing to the Apex trigger on their M&P compact for their CCW carry gun and I have also seen A2 lawyers telling us not to modify your carry guns trigger because it mitigates your case for self defense if your ever have to use this gun for self defense. By modifying the basic operation of the gun in the eyes of the law it somehow makes you more of the aggressor. These lawyer put it better than I do and you should check out these videos before making mods to you carry guns. But on your range guns or completion gun hey go nuts I have my comp guns all slicked up.
People seem to like to make a bigger deal out of trigger reset than they do the break.
What’s so hard about pulling your finger back a little further on the stock trigger? 😕
I don’t mess with my triggers. But I have few guns that are SA/DA that have a damn good triggers.
I personally rather have a heavier trigger on EDC gun.
Do you think you can use just the apex polymer trigger withvall stock parts?
I’m used to running a custom no creep 4lbs 1911 trigger….I’ve found I shoot better from the get go with less creep…but it’s all just what you train with more at the end of the day…it’s always a training issue lol
Is your Apex trigger using the duty/carry springs? What trigger pull poundage would you recommend for a safe range and CCW pistol?
No doubt 2.0 stock has better reset, that’s what it’s all about.
As far as take up , that little extra doesn’t hurt.
After 200-300 rounds spent 2.0 trigger pull is pretty much perfect.
Smooth take up , solid wall. crisp break & short reset – it’s gold.
Now to that hing trigger.
It works great but takes time to get use too for some.
It would of been nice if S&W went 2.0 Shield Plus trigger in 2.0 lineup @ beginning.
I hope S&W offers future upgrade @ small cost to those not comfy with hing version.
If they did so Apex would be out of 2.0 trigger business.
I’m very accurate with the 2.0 factory trigger, don’t see why I need to spend that kind of money to approve very little on my current shooting with the weapon !
Love my stock mp 9mm 2.0 any cheap ammo steel brass aluminum.
same people that will tell you to get an apex for this gun will tell you to run it Glock stock Glock trigger suck a lot worse than this one
I have the apex in a 2.0.great for target shooting but sucks for speed shooting, you hardly feel it reset with the light trigger spring.
Picking up the fde 5" in 9mm tomorrow 🤤 only have an sr9c right now so I’m excited to take a full sized to the range!!
Apex is a must for me in a m&p most will tell you that
Will adding the kit without the trigger change the stock tactile and audiable affect. I mainly want to reduce the 10 pound trigger weight.
Did you replace only the trigger or the whole kit with springs?
Just got my 2.0 Compact 4” but no idea when I’ll get to the range b/c of the pandemic. I have shot a Shield and never noticed the hinged trigger.
I have shot them with and without. My opinion, it is worth every penny to upgrade. The Apex trigger kit makes such a difference.
I completely agree. I had the duty – carry kit put on my new M&P Compact 2.0 immediately because I liked it so much on my Shield. However, Its totally different. The reset is almost non existent. I haven’t fired it yet. But I’m leaning toward returning to original trigger.
Unless you get a shit trigger on one like my 2.0. The one on my original Shield is great and the one on my 1st gen M&P was great as well. But this new 2.0 sucks ASSHOLE.
Have you tried putting an Apex barrel on the 2.0? Not sure if it’s worth it since the 2.0 seems to be much more accurate out the box.
I personally keep my carry guns triggers stock.Trigger pull and reset is for the range to make nice tight groups. In a real world setting and shooting, you wont feel either. You will just pull that trigger with your adrenaline pumping and just hope to hit your target as best as you can. Also if you train with that stock trigger enough, you will get used to it….IMO
yes I agree your a pinion
The stock 2.0 trigger supposedly incorporated the optional "Pro" trigger internals of the 1.0 M&P, which in turn set out to mimic the feel of the original Apex options for the 1.0. So while there are differences in the newer Apex options specifically branded for the 2.0, they are small. I would only upgrade if you want to experiment with pull weight. An Apex will clean it up a bit (stock trigger will clean up a bit on its own within 200-500 pulls) and lessen the travel and reset, but it isnt worth $160 IMO. I got the 4" compact for $370. It’s tough to justify spending $160 on a trigger.
Some guys have gotten the pull ridiculously low with the Apex kit. Even dangerously low. Under 4 lbs. At which point it should be a gimmick gun that you play around with and not a carry gun. And the shape of the stock curved trigger is actually really pleasing. It might not look cool but it really grabs the finger securely. S&W poured money into consumer testing. Result: It’s a really good but not really great trigger. A lot better than the first version and perfectly fine for a duty pistol which is what S&W is targeting. The past two years have seen better stock triggers from CZ, etc.
Of course everyone is losing out to Glock because of narrative alone. Guys who are allowed to experiment know better. There was a great review of a SOCOM guy on the site I purchased my 2.0 from which really sold me on it. Not a poser. Just a guy in a unit that was being issued the G19 but had the latitude to buy a sidearm on his own. He settled on the 2.0 as it was simply more pistol. Better made. People often just go with what is popular and are hamstrung by local options to test. The most popular range within 25 miles from me does not allow people to rent guns if they are solo. What? Im shopping a new pistol. You are losing business.
I don’t mind the trigger on my 2.0 but I definitely want to put the apex on my older shield 9mm
This is good to see. I have both the M&P 40 and 45 1.0 version. The triggers are squishy and grainy so to speak. Not at all like most other triggers out there. However, when I shoot it doesn’t seem to effect my performance in a negative manner what so ever. So I am very curious to know if an APEX, or other after market trigger will improve my groups. I’m not sure it would be worth the money. Does anyone else have any experience that would support or contradict this?
The hinge trigger on the MP2.0 is straight up garbage.
Thanks again for the comparison
Lets all be honest 2.0 doesn’t need a apex trigger but if you can get a apex trigger get one if its something thats going to break the budget then get ammo instead but I love my apex trigger dont need it but it was a want not a need that’s for sure.
Is it me or does the 2.0s have no define wall in them & Mrs of a rolling break, maybe I’m just use to my stock glock triggers gotta get out & shoot it more
My stock MP 2.0 trigger is great out of the box and for shooting at 21ft rapid fire getting baseball size groups. However, where I do think an apex would make a difference would be at 50ft. So my question here is, how does stock trigger on 2.0 compare to apex at 50ft?
The Apex trigger on the M&P 9C doesn’t improve the gun’s performance because the V1.0 of this gun is fundamentally inaccurate. The trigger won’t help if the frame wobbles. My M&P 9C is the least accurate 9mm in my collection. The newer 2.0 version might be better and by all accounts is but V1.0 is a POS.
Apex has issues with dead triggers now. I can attest to it because I had an apex trigger in my M&P and it started doing it. So I took it out and went back to the factory trigger. Looking back, I would not have put one in if I knew it was going to have issues later down the road. I would just keep the factory one in and saved my money. It is not worth it.
Yeah, well… it’s hard to get the same hard audible reset from the Apex when you’re talking over it. Of course the factory is going to be more pronounced when you’re quietly listening for it.
In my opinion, the primary reason on why I am considering replacing the trigger is safety concern. It may be a tad irrational. But I do feel that the tab enclosed in the trigger is theoretically safer than having the entire bottom of the trigger hinged. It just seems that the tab would be less likely to be moved by something foreign that might disengage the trigger safety. Since I carry hot and I don’t have a manual safety on mine, I want my pistol to be as secure as possible when not ready to fire. However, I agree that the stock trigger is already pretty good. Especially for the basic price. I just don’t believe that the trigger is the best type of design for a concealed carry gun. Still, I might not change anything on the pistol at all. But I can’t deny that the Apex just looks more secure and the shape seems more ideal.
I’d like to see this video after a Trigger polish and light springs on a stock trigger.
Personally I believe that the stock trigger is fine little bit of dry fire you be surprised what it’ll do for you
Yeah but you’re comparing a modified stock trigger to the Apex
This is the part where John Lovell or James Yeager would show up until you don’t need a new trigger you need training and they’d be right
