Savage Impulse: Ultimate All-Around Rifle?
Savage Impulse: Ultimate All-Around Rifle?
In essence, Savage’s new Impulse is a full featured, mid-weight hunting rifle owning a fully ambidextrous straight-pull bolt, Savage’s vaunted 110 barrel, a modular (adjustable) stock, and all the features that make Savage rifles accurate and value-packed including including its patented AccuStock, AccuTrigger, integral rail, and barrel nut method of barrel attachment. First editions of the Impulse line include the Hog Hunter, Big Game and detachable 10-round mag Predator models. Although each is geared toward a different pursuit, the rifle’s concept remains the same.
I hate to sound like an advertisement for Savage because Savage is paying me zilcho, but frankly, I love the Impulse rifle and can’t find a notable flaw in it. I commend the American company for finally building a modern rifleman’s rifle with just about every feature I desire, and at least one I didn’t know I needed! At around 8 ½ pounds, it isn’t a lightweight to be sure, but the thing just shoots. With a Zeiss scope and Hornady’s ELDX 6.5 Creedmoor ammo, I recorded .70-inch groups–and dinged steel targets to 1400 yards–with this $1,400 rifle, out of the box. If I had to have one rifle for everything–from whitetails and hogs, coyotes and elk and even long-range targets, the Impulse in 6.5, .308 Win. or .30-06 would probably be it.

Hopefully Savage can install barrels and chambers that are smooth and shiny, unlike my 110 HC 300 Win Mag that looks like the chamber and rifling were cut by a badger tooth. Few others I know who own the 110 HC models had the same issues.
Will a smaller magazine fit as well?
I dont know any lefthanders either….they’re special little unicorns. They’re very sensitive too. I’m not sure this is the BA for them. 🙂
🙄 at least we southpaw have a holiday 🤭
What is wrong with this guy , talking about left handed shooters like that is not FUNNY AT ALL !!!
You’re still better off with a Sauer 90 or 101 for that price.
It’s not as good from the prone but the Browning BLR is kind of a leveraction and kind of a straight pull in some regard. It also is very fast and probably a little bit more so than the Savage. I just got my BLR and I love it.
p mag?
350 legend please!
I’ve always wanted to try a straight pull bolt action like the Swedish K31 but being a lefty, it’s always looked awkward. I like that the bolt handle can be switched from right to left that way right handed people don’t give me lip about my left handed gun and how they can’t adapt! That’s a huge selling point to me! LOL However I have to go against the Fudds when I say you really can’t beat a semi auto if something is popping up out of the bushes at you LOL
With the new ball bearing bolt lockup, did Savage manage to keep their floating bolt head?
I wonder if this rifle is partly in response to the 90 degree bolt throw on previous models. Three-lug 60/70 degree bolt throws are becoming standard. I would have considered the Ruger American if it weren’t for Savage’s .338 Federal offerings plus the 110 seems a little better made than the American.
👎 because im a lefty
Awesome video and also you are nowhere near south Texas buddy more like Central Texas.🤣🤣
Why not a pump action? Same thing in my opinion.
The 6.5mm model Savage has out, needs a 24 inch barrel ; then I’ll Buy it 😉
Wonder if I can get an aluminum chassis for this
I’m a lefty and I think your pretty funny !! I want one of those guns but you can’t find them right now, that way when I’m gone and my kids take it over all they have to do is flip the bolt , they are all right handed
So where can I get a muzzle brake for this ?
A rifle like that should come with iron sights
Kriegoff Semprio is the fastest bolt action
if this has the m24 stock it would be a great deal, still interested because of the straight pull.
Ar 10 mag ?
I was liking your channel until you started dissing on left handers. Come to Utah and school you.
I’m left handed dip shit
Really want to see this in a dangerous game variant 🤤
Calling Lefty’s "Weirdo’s"? Well now I know Lefty’s…..I DISLIKE YOUR VIDEO.
Why are left handers weird? I’m left handed and I know several left handers.
I’m a big fan of Savage, but also check out the Henry Long Ranger.
Man if they can make this in a scout rifle format, I would be at Cabelas in 10 minutes.
Pray For Democrats They don’t like God.
Great Video Thanks.
Nice rifle. Not sure that I’ll be able to run it much faster than my tuned bolt gun but it’s a very interesting concept with novel locking features reminiscent of the HK DRLB system.
Just buy a level gun you pansies
I’d love a suppressor on my rifles but they scare Australians.
Reminds me a little of the Heym sr30
Could you tell us about the scope you have on the rifle ?
As a southpaw, I am in love with the concept of this, as a fan of Savage? Even more so. This has the potential to make for some very nice lines of rifles for hunting, long-range shooting, and with a bit of ingenuity/machining? potentially great marksman’s rifles.
don’t say "faster" say ‘efficient’, some places around the world have firearm authorities who will freak out about its speed
Its hard to get “legal” self loading long arms in Australia due to the red tape. Straight pulls and pumps are very popular. Oceania Precession and Warwick firearms are Australian companies that makes good straight pull rifles. They make their rifles spring assisted so you only need to pull the bolt back and the spring does all the work. Its much quicker this way.
Semi-auto is better. Europe has to use bolt because of their laws when it comes to sporting purpose.
Very nice the Remington 7600 pump rifle is also good for follow up shots
Does the 22-250 actually come with the 10 rd box magazine? If so I’m sold! Would also be good as a have friends and relatives that are south paw!
I lost my right eye for shooting now I’m using left eye to shoot nice video by the way
This ole lefty likes this gun! I want it in a .22-250 with a 9 twist though. But great features for everyone!
I was at a friends place checking out some of his rifles and he handed me a 10000 $ blazer straight pull. I felt so awkward working that bolt because it doesn’t remain firm. It sort of hinges and the bolt knob pulls an inch or more before the bolt pulls back. Totally not nice like the old 1895 straight pull. Yes There’s an 1895 straight pull rifle that’s very very very nice. These new straight pulls are awkward. I would shiver with yuck if I had no choice but to take it hunting. Maybe it’s just me but it’s really not a true straight pull like the m95
Looking at their website, the only model that comes with longer than the stubby 20" barrel is the hunting version. Really I’d like to maximize velocity with a few of those calibers, especially in the predator with 22-250…. which also fails with 1:12 twist (should be 1:9 at least). Is 2 inches of additional barrel actually that much of a problem?
And what is wrong with South paws ?
They definatly have to make a 22lr version with this beautiful rifle mechanism.
This lefthander could out shoot you any day of the week!!!
