Rifle Setup for Long Range Shooting (500 yards is easy)
Rifle Setup for Long Range Shooting (500 yards is easy)
In this video, I take you to the Red Rock shooting range and show how to make any long-range shot on a rifle straight out of the box.

Those two tools and library. Made me chuckle, I just had a feeling.
Tbh, the only thing you need to get to set up virtually any rifle for 500 yards is proper ammunition.
Great comments on set up. I’ve invested in many "tools". Learned to trust my Mk1 eyeball and feel. But do cross check with simple reliable tools.
Anymore …long range is 3 to 4 miles. 500 yrs is sighting in range.
I agree with your take. I would buy one if they did it in a 7mm08. That way you would have what I call have your cake and eat it too. A rifle for competition and a hunting rifle. Everything from small game to elk as long as you shoot under 400 yds.
Good on blackhound for owning it.
I’ve seen folks hit 800m with an M4 and 4x ACOG mounted on top. Max point range for that set-up is 500m. Anything under 1000 meters with these large caliber bolt action rifles really isn’t all that impressive,
Breath, relax, aim, squeeze
What kind of scope rings ?
some old fallacies. Cheek weld is critical for consistency that does NOT mean the glass needs to be super low. modern rifle is far more of a cold shooter than a cold barrel with a impact walking around. Also interesting you will be using 4DOF on the Kestrel and AB on the LRF.
I would love some more info on this slow motion video you have concerning scope clearance. I’m currently debating installing medium rings Because perfect eye relief With Low Only leaves enough clearance to slide a piece of paper between barrel. I assumed that would be good but after watching this video I now question myself not having enough space between
Is the Magneto Speed barrel mounted? Wouldn’t anything on the barrel change your shot? I get it that it might not change it for speed but it would for accuracy and maybe speed is all that matters when measuring speed.
Jim you NEED a JKLPrecision lab radar trigger. I bought one for a friend who has a lab radar as he was having the same issues with the radar and he swears it has changed his experience with his radar. Its $35.00
You can us a plumb line
I would have saved a lot of ammo money if I had watched this a few years ago
So where do you think the blackhound ranks as a hunting scope?
Commy Youtube. Good video. Let’s go Brandon.
Awesome content! Very helpful and informative guid to long range shooting.
Time to de monitize YouTube!
Was the target from a takeaway chicken sign?
reach out to AEAC https://www.youtube.com/user/svscialli
He uses the Lab Radar with airguns. Maybe he could help you get it working better.
Dude, read the labradar set up directions. It will work perfectly if you set up properly.
all real americans are sick of nazitubes obviously stupid and unfair rules.
So step 1 is make sure your scope is level but eh….just eyeball it?
Heck yeah
Level that attaches to the rail . Small level on top of the scope cap .
What part of the country is that location. Nice shooting area
Great video
You can mount my scope any day!! I’ll do the rest 😉
Hell, we were shooting 500 yds with gov’t issued M-16s using Iron sights.
That was such a good vid for new shooters. It looks like you did that with over the counter rounds which makes it great. I agree with every thing you did and its the same way I set mine up but I tend to put 20MOA rails on mine to take advantage of the scopes full tracking ability. I think the weather conditions except for wind don’t play into it to much till you start getting out to that 700 to 1000 yards and father ranges unless your at sea level and then go hunting like at 6000 feet or higher. If you don’t use the loaded weather data that some apps do then you may need a Kestrel meter for you atmospheric data for those longer shots.
that Begara 14r costs twice as much as my Weatherby Vangard Synthetic in .308/7.62x51nato
I’m "not a very good shot" in that my rifle is sub-MOA out of the box, and the best group I had at 100 yards was 1.5 inches from a shooting table with bipod.
Leopold V1 scope.
Telegram is a good idea. Downloading
What about the average guy I don’t have all that fancy stuff to use
Impressive
For the Labradar, check out the JKL Precision trigger.
So what was the final concensus on the Black Hound? Also what were the scope rings you used?
Just came across your channel. Good content from the little that I have watched. Your new shooter in this video was missing eyewear while shooting. Might not seem significant but not something that should be left out in an instructional video.
Labradar is too far back from muzzle. Buy a 3D site, buy a magnetic trigger for it. You won’t regret either one.
Love your channel. I wish you can do more videos
If you need more than a few shots something is wrong
Yea like a broke scope.
Just did it buddy’s gun and cheep old beat up scope
I wonder if it does the same with a mossberg patriot.
That’s a cheap gun instead
O good grief. Just shoot the gun. I could go out there with my BB gun and shoot 1 inch group.
I agree with some of your viewers who who have left comments on the reason your Labradar may not be working to your satisfaction. Please review the Quick Set Up Guide that was in your box with the user manual. There is a pictorial of where to position the Labradar, depending on if you have a standard barrel, muzzle brake or suppressor. The reason your Labradar did not work is you are not using it as designed. The barrel in your video appears not to have a muzzle brake so the correct position is for the Labradar to be even with the end of the barrel. In the Preferences, you should have the Trigger Level set to 1. In your video, at 6:08 when the shot is fired, the blue light is on. This is a standby mode and it will not record a shot. You must have the orange light on (ARMED) for it to look for the shot. Feel free to contact us for further support and please provide clarification to your viewers that the Labradar was not in the correct position.
Best regards,
Labradar
Great learning video! Thanks

Sighted in at 200/ Max Range 725 yards.
Shot a black bear at 370 yards and a Whitetail buck at 340 yards this year. Both animals dead on impact.
You commented about your lab radar not working well, but I notice you are doing it wrong. Without a muzzle brake, your radar should be on the same plane as your muzzle. You have the radar about two feet too far back. With a suppressor, you put the radar about 12 inches in front and with a muzzle brake, you put it about 12 inches behind. I have a magneto speed and a lab radar and found the radar is soooooo much easier to set up and record shots.
I also had a bad first day with the radar, I didn’t think placement would matter as much as it does. Also, set the shot sensitivity to max. You only need to dial it back when shooting on a firing line with other shooters who might set off the shot sensor. After I did these two things, I haven’t missed a shot in over 300 rounds, suppressed, not suppressed and with and without muzzle brake. Hope this helps.
Wow. I love my 300 RUM and my 338 LM.
As a Marine I learned that instructing a new shooter is many times easier than coaching a person who has experience with guns. You don’t have to break 10-12 years of established bad habits. Just like dads can be assholes and let their 10 year old shoot their 12 gauge Ithaca ultra lite. The kid gets knocked on his ass and dad and his buddies all laugh. But now you have a shooter with almost incurable recoil anticipation. When headed to the range the guy saying I’ve been shooting m whole life is normally the guy who needs the most coaching.
