S&W M&P EZ .380 Auto, Make it Jam

S&W M&P EZ .380 Auto, Make it Jam

We keep trying to get the M&P Shield EZ to fail and have a stoppage. Hasn’t happened yet. In this video shoot 13 mags of different types of ammo as fast as I can change mags, it ate all 100 plus rounds. I continually appreciate the quality of the M&P pistols.

I have a Shield EZ 380 for my Sunday gun. Well concealed in IWB or undershirt shoulder holster. LCP in a Sneaky Pete for EDC. No one ever gives it a glance.

  2. Bart Sims on June 12, 2023 at 4:45 am

Bought one for my wife. She likes it because it is easy to work the slide. I have run 100 rounds through it and the last round stovepipes out of the mag every time. What do you think.

  3. dimples30039 on June 12, 2023 at 4:50 am

Just got my first one, I am so excited to go to the range and try it. The guys at the range said it was a pretty great gun and my brother, former military and gun lover told me one of the best in its league lol

Fun little pistol. Great choice for an EDC, imo.

Just went out and shot my wife’s. She had 4 malfunctions, I had zero. I think it’s 1000% limp wrist shots that can cause this. 2 failure to ejects and 2 stove pipes.

Nothing but problems with the new one out of the box I got for my mother, something she can handle. Not once has it extracted a casing, either the casing is in the chamber still or it stovepipes. Tested with fiochi, Winchester, blazer and PMC, new in box factory ammo, 2 different mags and 3 different shooters(2 with a lot of experience and one LEO). Cleaned it and reoiled and the problem remains. I love my shield 9mm and 2.0 9mm but this gun has been trash out of the box.

  7. D P on June 12, 2023 at 4:54 am

I shit you not brand new out the box stove piped on me 2nd shot

  8. shauen24 on June 12, 2023 at 4:56 am

Great Vid-!- I love the gun! Around the 750 round mark on my 2 original mags that came with it I started to get a live round ejecting at the end of the mag..Purchased new mags and problem solved…

  9. wemcal on June 12, 2023 at 4:57 am

I started out watching to see if the gun would jam, however I noticed every time you replaced a mag you racked the round in the chamber instead of hitting the slide release and letting the slide close on its own… I’ve seen people do this and people that don’t… I press my slide release and let it close on its own (on the mags that hold the slide open) years ago we were with a team that carried empty chamber and always racked the round in… of curiosity, what’s your reason?

  10. timspellman47 on June 12, 2023 at 4:58 am

Try Winchester service grade 380 ammo it jams in the ez 380 I shot. It was the only round that did.

  11. Ric Smith on June 12, 2023 at 4:58 am

Awesome! Did the same test with my wife’s. 380 EZ. Only issue was FTR when I shot a light reload in it. Great EDC pistol.

That gun is a machine, the operator is a machine what more you want.

  13. Don Skiver on June 12, 2023 at 5:07 am

In one of my magazines the spring tension is too high and causes misfeeds (typically) on the last round. It also doesn’t allow me to load 8 rounds into it. It’s just too tight. Smith and Wesson is sending me 2 new springs to resolve the issue. Otherwise I freaking love this gun. So smooth and easy to fire. I love it.

  14. Voltis_5 on June 12, 2023 at 5:08 am

Just bought this gun for my wife and I’m only seeing Steel ammo (Tul, Wolf) for this gun. Would you say it’s safe to use steel on this for the time being?

  15. Earl Tash on June 12, 2023 at 5:08 am

I just bought one for my girlfriend and it failed to load once and stove piped once within the first 24 rounds.
this being a brand new gun which I did oil before I took it out will most likely need a break in. of a few boxes of ammo.
I’m hoping this gun doesn’t end up with the problems that the 380 bodyguard had, which was lots of failure to loads lots of stove pipes and a few times the clip falling out even after sending it back to Smith & Wesson multiple times with them not fixing anything.
I myself shoot a Glock, a Glock 42 and a Glock 21 which never fail and they can shoot any type of ammo low-powered too + p with no issues at all.
my girlfriend also tends to be having a problem with the back strap safety.
all this gun needed was a manual safety.
that’s why I prefer a Glocks one trigger safety it’s all you need ready to shoot when you get it out!!!!

  16. Russ Curtis on June 12, 2023 at 5:08 am

Excellent video. I’ve put almost 1200 rds. of various ammo (round & flat nose, hollow and ARX through mine with no problems at all. This is a very dependable gun.

  17. Robert Salyers on June 12, 2023 at 5:10 am

My 9mm ez has 150 rounds through it with Zero maulfunsions and it shoots very accurately this will be my new EDC once I get a holster for it

  18. MB1 Studio on June 12, 2023 at 5:10 am

Right out of the box and mine won’t take the clips with 8 rounds in it. It will load with 7. Is this a spring problem with the magazine?

  19. Zona 3141 on June 12, 2023 at 5:10 am

Everyone, if you’re getting jams, try Sellier and Bellot 92 gr round nose. I also only load seven rounds in the magazine. This has worked best for me and I hope it works for you. Enjoy and be safe.

I own one I love it and still shoot it every chance I can when I can get ammo for it that doesn’t cost me an arm and a leg. I have large hands and part of my pinky finger slightly overlaps the base of the mag. That is the reason I have problems with mine but the problem I have is I will occasionally have a stovepipe or the slide doesn’t come back far enough to chamber the next round. Again I have large hands so the issue is when I’m shooting the slide comes in contact with my thumb slowing down the slide velocity so it doesn’t travel as far back as it should. This being said I recommend everyone at least shoot one. I’ve got just under 1,000 rounds threw mine I believe just past the 900 round mark and she is still going strong. I love shooting the buffaloe bore 90 grain plus p hollow point load threw it. About the same recoil as the 9mm version.

My girlfriend just bought it and jammed every like 2 or 3 rounds

  22. Youremids on June 12, 2023 at 5:12 am

    such a sexy looking gun

  23. JAH ** on June 12, 2023 at 5:15 am

Just purchased 380 ez, but can’t find ammo for it. Help!

  24. JR 303 on June 12, 2023 at 5:15 am

We bought one of these and we kept having the second to the last round eject with the spent shell after firing the first round.

  25. RMan on June 12, 2023 at 5:15 am

So far, I have 1 stovepipe in my first 100 rounds, loading 8 in the mag. To me, it shouldn’t happen at all, so I’m somewhat disappointed at S&W.
How is this even acceptable with today’s technology? I’m sure to some of you, it’s not a big deal. But if your life was on the line, that one failure might have cost you or someone.

  26. Miadous on June 12, 2023 at 5:18 am

We got two, one for mom and one for stepdad. Unfortunately, stepdad’s Shield EZ 380 showed several issues on day 1 at the range. He had to rack the slide a few times to clear it and 3 times it stove piped on the last round, the famous issue of getting the last bullet stuck in the slide. I thought after 3 years S&W would have resolved that issue with the gun or mag springs, whichever causes that problem. I wrote S&W an email and they want me to send in that gun, but from what I’ve read, that seems to be a mag issue, not a gun issue.

  27. Ronald Moravec on June 12, 2023 at 5:20 am

JAM HAPPENS WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SLIDE AND TRY TO REPLACE IT WITH THE HAND GRIP SAFETY OFF. Do not depress when replacing slide after field strip or it will jam guaranteed.
I have one 9 mm made Nov 20 and a second a week old. Naturally did not read instructions on #2 and jammed it so it would not reinstall. A few vids show the easy fix.
    Never jammed under other circumstances.

  28. Verna Hederman on June 12, 2023 at 5:20 am

Just got back from the range. Only a couple of hundred rounds through a new S&W 380 EZ, but my experience was not as good as this, multiple stovepipes, failure to feed, etc. Used both Federal and Amscor FMJ ammo. I’m going to clean the gun, check the feed ramp, ejector and try it again with different ammo. Great gun, but so far, I wouldn’t bet my life on it.

  29. Steven Moore on June 12, 2023 at 5:20 am

Wish we had your luck Bought this gun used and hopefully broken in Needles to say the gun did not cycle properly Constantly stove piped I tried cause my hands are big and could easily make the grip safety work properly Granted I did better but still misfires not cycling right and stove piping I don’t care what anyone says This gun is garbage Should be scraped How can you carry a gun you can’t trust Got rid of this pos and bought something else

  30. Darren Kellman on June 12, 2023 at 5:21 am

I just bought it no ammo it sucks im dying to shoot it lol

  31. Joseph Carr on June 12, 2023 at 5:22 am

    Excellent gun

  32. Miguel Ramirez on June 12, 2023 at 5:22 am

I just got a new one the performance center version horrible jamming issues , when I would shoot the other bullet would load up but when I pulled the trigger nothing would happened would have to racket back again for it to shoot or the bullets keep jamming

  33. Alex Durdan on June 12, 2023 at 5:23 am

we bought this for my mom for xmas… 1 shot stovepiped… every round after was perfect

  34. Jim Weck II on June 12, 2023 at 5:23 am

Just the other day my 9 EZ would eject the spent round but wouldn’t load the next round. The slide stayed open. It happened to my nephew twice in 4 shots. He is way more experienced than i am also. I am left handed so i know i didn’t hit the lock with my finger. That was a thought of my friends and mine until i looked again. Next time it happens i need to look and see if the lock activated some how or not to see if that is the problem or if it is something else. Have you heard of this problem? Shoot and ejects the round but then the slide doesn’t close and chamber the next round? I would just pull the slide back a bit and it would close and chamber the new round but…. it didn’t happen on my first use which we put about 200 rounds through it. This second time a few weeks later it happened early on and happened maybe 6 times.
    Ever experienced that before?
    Thanks in advance.

Try puttin 1 bullet in the magazine, insert it in your gun with the (open slide position) and then rack it! And see what happens!! Anyone who has the 380 ez let me know!!!

  36. MrMfloor on June 12, 2023 at 5:25 am

It jammed on me twice yesterday! I just bought it new

  37. Elissa Valdez on June 12, 2023 at 5:27 am

My 380 EZ also stove pipes with a LIVE round AND also will jam, it started when I first bought it, they blamed it on limp wrist, NOT, I had a seasoned shooter (competition shooter) shoot the gun and it did the live round stove pipe and misfire. I truly love the gun, but I wish I could figure the problem out. Many say it’s the magazine. S & W is sending me followers and springs. I wish they would just send me new magazines. I used a magazine from the gun shop where I take lessons, and it never jammed.

  38. leonard gebbia on June 12, 2023 at 5:28 am

Just bought and shot this gun today. Had about every other round stovepipe, some misfeeds, slide did not stay back on the last round. We only had 50 rounds to shoot. I managed to get one clip to go without a jam but I had an extremely firm grip on it. I found your video because I am looking for an explanation. I read all the other comments and am having the same magazine issue with one of the magazines. Will try your fix. Looking at the ammo next, will get some different stuff once the store is in stock again. Never had a gun have this many problems.

  39. Colt10mm Security on June 12, 2023 at 5:28 am

Awesome video! I love the M&P 2.0 9mm but I HATED my two .380 Bodyguards. They sucked and jammed at every magazines. …did I mention it was BOTH Bodyguards that I owned were failures???? That being said, I looked at the .380 EZ and I’m sure it’s designed/built better than their Bodyguard line. However, that stupid grip safety is what made me buy two Glock 42’s and a 43X instead. The 42’s are ultra reliable and much much smaller than the EZ. For the size of the EZ, I thought that the 43X is better, smaller and carries a better round.

looking forward to more updates on this pistol. very interested in getting this for my wife.

  41. Carlo G on June 12, 2023 at 5:33 am

That gun has one of the weakest recoil springs on the market, thats why it will most likely swallow the most unpowered junk ammo out there.

On the other hand, even the owners manual says DO NOT fire +P in any EZ Shield.

Smith and Wesson sticking to what they do best, revolvers. Stick with Glock, Sig, HK for serious, quality fiearms.

  42. JF Sebastian on June 12, 2023 at 5:33 am

This gun is "prone to jam". Got one for my wife 9/30/22. Went to the range with it first time 11/11/22 – it jammed at least once per magazine shooting six mags. Took it home, cleaned it up & oiled it, went back to the range 11/18/22 – jammed repeatedly again. Sending it back to S&W for resolution.

  43. 13noman1 on June 12, 2023 at 5:33 am

a different issue for me, reminiscent of the "9mm vs 45" debate. Since this doesn’t appear to be a micro gun (good in my opinion), why bother with .380? Seems like there are lots of 9mm options with that form factor.

  44. BrianOnTheGo on June 12, 2023 at 5:33 am

Your better with that .380 than I am with anything I shoot. Well done.

  45. Kevin McCarey on June 12, 2023 at 5:36 am

    Hello to you today
Just watched your video on the MP 380. Very much like this model, and thanks for your opinion.

  46. D P on June 12, 2023 at 5:37 am

Someone explain the stove pipe issue. 3 times in 1 clip 2nd clip no problem… Faulty spring??

  47. Chester Dilley on June 12, 2023 at 5:37 am

I bought a 380 ez to train women with. I have an intermittent problem with the last round Live Round Stovepipe or the last round goes sailing out of the elector port and the slide closes on an empty chamber. No fired Stovepipes. It’s always the last round indicating that the magazine spring is too weak to properly chamber the last round in the magazine. Since there are no aftermarket magazine springs for this gun, I did what everybody says to NEVER do. I took out the magazine springs out and stretched them. I have one fully loaded and the other magazine is empty. In a week from now I’m going back to the range to test fire both magazines. I’m an IDPA member and I don’t Limp Rist my guns.

  48. KING.NOVICE 0NE on June 12, 2023 at 5:38 am

My performance center 380 ez is probably the most reliable pistol next to my m&p9 2.0 I put countless rounds of ammunition through both with no malfunctions I noticed it likes to be lubed tho I’m thinking the nitride coating is not as slick as standard barrels if that makes sense lol but even if it’s not lubed well it doesn’t malfunction the first time I fired it was right out of the box to test it no lube on hand fired flawlessly even flat nosed rounds that usually cause problems I was impressed the recoil is way lighter than an lcp or other smaller frames so I was able to get a clear sight picture very fast after each shot and accurately too best 380 on the market except you better take good care of your mags because they’re harder to find that ammo right now lol

  49. Noop Tema on June 12, 2023 at 5:39 am

Got this little gun for free brand new with my SR Ruger 1911 (model 6700 used) for $800 at my local pawn shop. I think I was taking too long in deciding what i wanted to buy and the manager decided to toss this 380 shield my way for free if I buy the 1911 just to get rid of me while actually making a sale that day. I’m not kidding, this is a true story, and I’m cool with it because I actually ended up liking this gun as a conceal carry, and I’ve always wanted a Ruger 1911 for quite some time now. I plan on taking forever every time I go gun shopping from now.

  50. Jimmy Brannan on June 12, 2023 at 5:42 am

The easiest way to make any semi auto pistol jam is let a weak wrist woman shoot it. Letting the weapon flop in their hand makes the cartridge not make it out the normal path of escape.
