Alberta taking over firearms prosecutions in pushback against federal gun ban

Alberta Justice Minister Tyler Shandro said Thursday the province’s Crown prosecution service would assume responsibility for federal firearm charges on Jan. 1. This comes as Alberta pushes back against Ottawa’s proposed amendments to Bill C-21.

Thank you Tyler Shandro and the Alberta Government!! Seems Alberta and Saskatchewan are the only provinces to stand up to Trudeau and his insane measures that have NOTHING to do with public safety.

Alberta recognizes that no FREE citizen is under any obligation to follow the communofascist edicts of the federal government.

    Well done Alberta.

That problem can be easily resolved by canceling the provincial contract with the RCMP.

Denounce the Tyrant’s men. We know who they serve and it sure as hell ain’t the people.

I’m not the least bit surprised that the CBC does not understand how governments work, at any level of government.
Its illegal in Canada to commit acts of crime and loot and destroy public property .
Yet, when BLM did it, not only did the police not stop it, but the Liberals encouraged it. for ALL of thier "mostly peaceful" protestors as the failed Legacy Media "reported" it.
The failed Liberal Feds can create all of the horrific ideological bills they want. If the provincial police and officials don’t want to support it, not only it meaningless, its about as useful as a new media that won’t report anything negative about any Liberals.

They are worried about modifying guns. Reality is 3D printers and online parts wont stop people who want to break the law. Banning guns wont stop the issue, its just going to piss off all the Canadians who legally own and follow the rules. I don’t have the numbers, but Im pretty sure MOST if not ALMOST all crimes involving shootings crimes in Canada, are done with people without proper licencing and permits for the guns used. If true, that means this is legislation is just targeting law abiding citizens. There is no proof or reasonable grounds to believe that banning said guns (guns that can "potentially" be modified ) will reduce any gun related crimes in Canada. People who illegally use and own illegal or restricted guns, will continue to do so regardless of this crap. – I’m not a gun owner, nor do I want one. However I do understand who and why people do legally own and operate their guns (because I know what its like to live outside of a city). Only if there is a considerable number of modified guns being legally owned and then used in violent crimes would this ban make sense, but I don’t believe for one second that scenario is common.

This is the most impartial coverage I have seen on CBC in many years. A Christmas miracle. This should be the standard for news coverage at a Nationally funded news agency at all times. Rather than either putting left wing spin or ignoring completely.

It’s time for BC to have their own Bill-1, If alberta can disregard the gun laws, then BC should be able to block any pipelines coming from alberta to our coast. Our province, Our Coast, Our Say.

  20. jgr on April 14, 2023 at 3:38 am

Excellent. Somebody has to stop the madness. Albertans are reasonable. I’ll remind people that we punished the PCs for their failures and DID vote NDP. The left likes to forget that–mainly because they vote Trudeau regardless of what he does out of pure tribal partisanship. Alberta is generally not that tribal. But we also won’t tolerate being kicked anymore. Coming at us with this "assault style" propaganda fear mongering nonsense is not gonna fly here.

Trudeau keeps taking a stand on things that divide the people of Canada. A real leader would not do that, a leader brings people together to work as a team. Trudeau will eventually unite Canadians, we will soon be united in voting him out of office.

Making Cocaine legal but taking law abiding citizens firearms away . Trudeau needs to be in prison

  46. Andrew Dow on April 14, 2023 at 4:07 am

Truly a great province and a great leader. Wish we had one in Ontario and wish we had one running Canada too.
More importantly, I wish we had a news media remaining in Canada. If we did, the Liberals would be challenged to do better.
I guess $2b/year in bribes from Trudeau to the media buys alot.

  47. extremumadventura on April 14, 2023 at 4:08 am

Right because according to Canada’s own numbers 90% of the crimes were by criminals possessing stolen handgun firearms they weren’t supposed to using then in crimes against others who may not have been simply allowed to protect themselves from these persons and not abiding by the common law not to do harm to others. Numbers of actual persons using firearms caused murders with or without intent are proportional to historical averages save for rural no urban communities where crime is on the rise since policing is insufficient. This has nothing to do with legally owned property.

  48. Mr. Bacon on April 14, 2023 at 4:09 am

A divisive issue for sure. There was no discussion, no compromise, and no informed decision making by the Liberal parliamentarians. We have non-gun owning politicians describing policies they can’t understand, but that they crafted, not for public safety reasons, but to score political points with urban voters, who themselves mostly don’t own or understand firearms. “You don’t need an AR-15 to bring down a deer” … “Weapons that were designed for the battlefield have no place on our streets”. These statements are clear indicators that the responsible politicians don’t understand what they are legislating. For example, in the first case, if one were to take an AR-15 chambered in NATO 5.56 mm deer hunting with military ammunition they would then face legal and moral consequences, and not because it is too powerful or deadly, but because it won’t ethically dispatch game reliably. Respecting “weapons designed for the battlefield”, well, that is almost every firearm— those that are designed and intended for hunting are based on military firearms. The differences between a hunting rifle and a battle rifle may be slim to none as they are usually one and the same. Where a modern manufacture hunting firearm is concerned, it it likely better built and more accurate than its military grandparent. By saying battlefield weapons don’t belong on the street— what that is saying to to hunters is that rifles in general should be banned. Hunters have no idea what comes next.
