How Colt Became America's Chosen Firearm | War Factories | Timeline
Long before Henry Ford, Samuel Colt is the true father of mass production. Ironically, it was the inadequacy of Soviet factory production which made the AK47 so effective.

The Russians can talk all they want about the AK47 being a in house design but the truth is the Sturmgewher 44 was the inspiration for its existence. Also the operating system of the AK was copied from the US produced M1Garand semiautomatic rifle and the safety/ dust cover came from the John Moses Browning invented Remington model 8 rifle. I’ll be honest I don’t like the AK. It’s the gun of Communism and Terrorism so it’s got a bad image in my opinion.
Because they were reliable and didn’t jam.. saved yah 40 minutes.
The “Walker” Colt revolver was not ordered by the US Government, but the Texas Rangers.
Bought a reproduction Walker Colt with my first tax return 30 years ago. ‘Murica!💪
Recently Colt was bought out by CZ, a Czech company and boy howdy has the QC really taken off.
OK… the "title" is
"How Colt Became America’s Chosen Firearm"
But it became the AK-47 story…. so disappointed.
War Factories is just tremendous!
Samuel Colt… The original Steve Jobs.
you really arr lenient with this Samuel Colt he was a drug dealer liar let’s not sugarcoat it
God made all men… and Sam Colt made them equal.
The M2 .50 Cal was put on tanks, on ships, in fighter planes, on bombers, etc.

Why must I suffer Dan Snow to watch a history vide?
That woman’s mouth is huge!
Carry the 1911 and a car 15 in the nam
Keep a Colt woodsman by my bed. My dog sleeps light
Crazy this all came from selling nitrous. All the famous families in American history seem to have done so selling drugs
Carried Colt Colt firearms all my life
The Beaumont Adams double action revolver was better than anything Sam Colt made.
Tell you what , these kinds of shows , about the past and how they produce it is great..I hope you guys keep making these videos , hahaha Lord knows you got plenty of material
Bit misleading
The ak sights are like 16in apart. It is about the same as original m16 sights. They can be incredibly accurate. My ak74 easily shoots sub 1inch groups at 100 meters and I do that with the traditional iron sights from a bench no vice or anything just elbows on the table. My ak does not rattle or anything like that. The thing with any gun is that they are built with different tolerances and by different skilled people. My ak is not a super high end one but it was made by skilled craftsman and it can outshoot many ar15s I’ve seen. The biggest downside to an ak is the operating times. It take a second longer to reload than an ar because it doesnt have the mag drop free by an easily pressed button. You have to manually remove the mag by hand. Other than that they are equal if built by equally skilled craftsman
Some of these I’ve seen years ago, but that’s alright. Good doc.
The machine gun invented by Browning.
Dan Snow is an annoying tool with the most annoying voice and personality. I wonder if he is related to Windsors as he seems inbred AF. This is a good series/channel otherwise, just ruined by "My name is Dan Snow".
Seeing that picture of Samuel Walker (and many other men from this era) makes me think that scissors and combs weren’t invented yet.
WHY IS SHE YELLING AT ME?!
Wait… America lost the vietnam war?? Do they know that?
I like these videos but every time I hear that stupid tag line that factories win wars not soldiers… Dislike button clicked.
What about Stoner? What about who screwed Stoner’s rifle in Vietnam? Your historians suck!
I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone from Afghanistan properly use an AK, they ALL hold them two feet away from there body then fire while either looking away or just closing there eyes.
It’s interesting to know that Colt didn’t invent the revolver 🤔. All this time I thought it was him who invented it. I guess I was wrong.
LOL…..the funny thing is that there were Mosins being used alongside AK’s in Vietnam, the historian said that the AK is the reason the N Vietnamese won.
Funny how the l i b er a l s never mention Elizabeth Colt as a pioneering figure in equal rights LOL. OH YEA, I KNOW WHY!!! SHE SOLD GUNNNNNS!!!!!
Samuel Colt was Emanuel lord a savior. King of America and the Church.. The King is the law. Europe did noy want the King so America got Samuel. Everyone in the world has to follow Samuel Colts Laws.
"Patent trolls" acquire patents but don’t use them to produce anything. Rather they go around and sue producers for using similar designs and demand licensing fees. They are effectively parasites who exploit the patent system. That’s very different from a manufacturer who uses his patents to create his products and is very protective against competitors copying him.
I wish I had an AK-47 when my M-16 jammed. When that happens you instantly get a sphincter contraction factor of 10.
There were three phases to create true mass production. Colt created mass production on multi-point tooling, the same part made on several different machines to increase volume. The Standard Oil Co. created single-point tooling for oil drums, breaking down manufacturing into smaller steps done by one purpose built machine and passing it on to another purpose built machine to perform the next step. Ford took these concepts and created the continuously moving assembly line.
Colt WAS the inventor of the revolver, you cannot compare what wa before him to what came after his inventions. British people talking about American guns, smh.
Kalashnikov got his idea for the AK-47 gas system from the M1 Garand.
People seem to forget the 1911 is still being used by our military and law enforcement today, Even some of the originals with some parts replaced
The Taliban don’t use the ak anymore
Factory girls in the uk
Too many blabbing experts. Should have more period photos and just one narrator.
God bless Samuel Colt!
Suprised my ex gf isnt on this channel. Shes a pro at talking about the past😖
Thanks
I think Jonathan Ferguson needs to answer for being in a documentary with so many inaccuracies. We all know that it was the ammunition for the M16 not the gun itself that let everyone down. The government new it and didn’t fix it until they were forced. Also the Colt Walker was in 1847 and the Colt Dragoon in 1849, they were to completely different guns.
*welcome to america*
My man Jonathan Ferguson! The Ian of UK.
