Why Buying My First 1911 Changed My Perspective On Guns Forever

Why Buying My First 1911 Changed My Perspective On Guns Forever

Kimber 1911 Buying Experience
https://bit.ly/2CHLudt

When it comes to his toys, a man is never irrational.

My first 1911 purchase was made off of pure emotion.

Up till that point, I wanted nothing but the plastic fantastics.

Let’s also not forget that I couldn’t afford 1911’s then.

1911’s were the king of the hill as far as craftsmanship and quality of parts were concerned.

That said, I wasn’t exactly blown away by their looks.

It all changed that day when I saw the Kimber Ultra Raptor sitting in a used guns case at my local store in Houston 12 years ago.

After I bought my first 1911, I was never the same gun guy.

I have three Kimber 1911’s, a 4" and two 3", one of which is all steel, not the alloy frame. Love ’em all. The one (CDP Ultra Carry that I got for my Lovely Bride…but bought back from her) has a trigger as good as any match pistol I’ve ever shot. The 4" is a Pro Carry II that’s my Go-to for work. All great…couldn’t pick one over another. I share your passion for the brand.

Jewlery transcends logic and reason, just like art and fashion. Guy stuff is my jewlery.

Today’s 1911’s are mostly like sport cars. They have tight tolerances, and have to be tuned.

The original 1911’s were so loose they rattled more than a worn out Taurus.

When it comes to firearms that are essentially tools, I don’t want something that I will be afraid to use. If it gets scratched or banged up, or if I loose it due to having to actually use it…… I don’t want to have a sense of connection with it. I want a firearm that I will use, use hard…….

Glocks, M&P’s, Ruger’s, and Xd’s are like Honda civics or Ford F150’s. They are easy to find, ready to go out of the box, and they work. Replacement parks are easy to find and if you want to upgrade them there are tons of aftermarket parts that are readily available.

    Are 1911’s nice, yup!
    Expensive, yup!
Are they something that I would use to defend my self with, sure. But……. I could buy 2 maybe 3 maybe Glocks, out fit them with extra mags, hosters, sights, and ammo, for the same price as a Kimber or a Wilson Combat 1911 costs.

  4. Todd Oppenlander on March 7, 2023 at 2:27 am

I too, got bitten by the 3 in 1911.

  5. Kerbal AirForce on March 7, 2023 at 2:27 am

Every handgun wishes it had a 1911 trigger

  6. Trik Stari on March 7, 2023 at 2:28 am

I still want to see you try out a Smith and Wesson 686.

I’ve watched your videos, forever but never really connected with you on this type of level. I felt this same way more than a couple years back when I brought a pre lock S&W .357, there was just something about the blueing and wood grips, to hold it, look at it. So I could carry it, I almost wish a law was passed that only six shot revolvers were allowed for carry. It’s like asking someone, “what time is it “ and they look at their cell phone vs. the 1960’s “what time is it?”, and they pull out a 14k gold pocket watch and press the top button, the face swings open, 11:35am, one’s just cooler. The problem however, is the basic, Toyota Corolla 9mm plastic guns loaded with 124gr +p are just more practical, easier to reload, higher capacity. But certainly less sexy, sad but necessary I guess.. keep these great videos coming.

  8. Hard Core on March 7, 2023 at 2:28 am

I’ve heard Kimbers fit, finish, and function has went downhill since the early days.. However, I see why you liked it. My buddy’s favorite is almost identical to yours.

  9. Joe Wright on March 7, 2023 at 2:31 am

You sound like me! I enjoy listening to you talk about guns.

  10. AdrenalineFueledFirearms on March 7, 2023 at 2:32 am

There is just something about a 1911 that you don’t get with any other handgun. Then add in the fact it is a Kimber and that just takes it to the next level. My first 1911 is a Kimber also and it will never be going anywhere ever because I enjoy it so much, but then again I also still have my first car soooo…

  11. mark forrest on March 7, 2023 at 2:33 am

Hell yeah I feel you brother I did the same thing and bought a brand new colt gold medal match and I was a first year apprentice and was broke went to the gun store for 5 days looking at it and this was when colt was king I was afraid to ask the guys behind the counter to look at it lol now they no me buy name but I traded my m&p 9 and my shoot gun and put some cash down to hold it and got my next check and I bought it I barley had enough for the 2boxs of ammo I bought with it I couldn’t stop looking at it and it was the next level in my fire arms journey and it was incredibly accurate it was my first 1911 and I carried it for a while and was so proud of it

  12. Shelly Sharp on March 7, 2023 at 2:34 am

That all I have Are 1911s

  13. Fresh Moozadell on March 7, 2023 at 2:34 am

Of all your recent content, I enjoyed this piece the most. Nice personal touch.

    That Kimber is so cool.

  14. Chewee on March 7, 2023 at 2:35 am

You enjoy the process of buying a gun? If you support the 4473, you don’t support the Right to bear arms

  15. Karl Alger on March 7, 2023 at 2:35 am

I hear that on the gun buying…..my gun was a p229 on leave from the army/Iraq. You can not beat a all metal gun that is quality made.

  16. Ian DeBow on March 7, 2023 at 2:35 am

The one that got me is the CZ PCR. Custom grips and some Trijicon sights. Agree with steel and alloy over polymers.

  17. Thomas Palmer on March 7, 2023 at 2:36 am

I own a Ruger SR1911 & a Springfield Armory A1 Mil Spec 1911. I absolutely love both of them. The 1911 has the absolute best triggers & best marksmanship!!! I keep hoping to someday see the first ever Glock 1911.

  18. RedheadedMusic on March 7, 2023 at 2:36 am

I don’t have purses and shoes that match… cause I don’t often carry a purse… but my gun case does match my T-Bird…almost got the colored grips for my gun to match the T-Bird… but decided to be more rational. I like the feel and look of our .45, but my sweetie uses it. I don’t have wrist strength to use it for more than a few magazines. My favorite is my S&W ez shield .380.
All of my instructors tell me not to cross my thumbs behind the slide because they could get pinched in the slider… but I see many folks doing that.

  19. YAH ONLY on March 7, 2023 at 2:38 am

    Tisas 1911 vs Rock Island?
    *sorry, I’m not rich

  20. Joshua Frahm on March 7, 2023 at 2:40 am

My first 1911 was a used Rock Island, because it was what I could afford. Eventually I upgraded to a Kimber Pro CDP ( I think, it’s one with the 4" barrel on the smaller Ultra frame) years later and I love it just as much as the day I bought it.

  21. Jim Kelly on March 7, 2023 at 2:41 am

I’m a new follower and love your content , great job 💪🏻 I’m considering adding the new saccatto cs” what are your thoughts ? Is it worth the money I’ll use it as my everyday carry

  22. Donn Greenwald on March 7, 2023 at 2:44 am

I love 1911’s but have had a bad experience with Kimbers; 1911’s are much different than Glocks, most Glocks are very reliable , but when you get down to the lower end 1911’s; reliability goes way down.I had one jam
badly in a gunfight in an Eckerds drug, and at that point I decided if I was to carry a 1911; it would be a very reliable one.My first high end was a Les Baer, then a Wilson Combat ULC, then my last two were Night Hawks . If I couldn’t carry the necessary quality required to bet my life on, I would not carry a 1911. great video.

  23. Linus 17 on March 7, 2023 at 2:48 am

I sensed a bit of… emotion while you spoke about your Kimber. This is something that only a TRUE "Gunner" would understand! I really appreciated that!

  24. Steve H on March 7, 2023 at 2:48 am

I remember those feelings. Then several years later I picked up an EMP and it happened again.

Real talk I’m GEN X and got my Kimber Ultra Carry II, about 6 years ago, and I felt like I was finally a grown up 😂

  27. Mike on March 7, 2023 at 2:59 am

I not only have much love for all steel dasa guns but after buying my hellcat I have a strong hatred for all these compact micro plastic P.O.S. 9’s. They’re garbage

  28. Lane Michaels on March 7, 2023 at 2:59 am

As a CZ and Beretta guy, Kimber keeps catching my eye.

  29. Brent Roscoe on March 7, 2023 at 3:00 am

What gun today will be an icon in 100 years John Browning is waiting for you’re answer

  30. Josiah Flynn on March 7, 2023 at 3:02 am

I’ve bought pistols of various types. My 1911s are the only ones that ever made me feel a kind of way.

  31. The Fugg Lee Art Show on March 7, 2023 at 3:03 am

I owned a 1911, shot several and I sold mine and will never buy another. I don’t like anything about it except the trigger. Out of the several I shot only one worked properly and oddly enough it was an old military one. The one I owned couldn’t get through one mag successfully.

  32. WOODYxWOOD on March 7, 2023 at 3:04 am

One of the first guns that got me into guns was a Kimber Ultra Aegis II, sub compact 9mm 1911. Very, very accurate. Couldn’t afford it at the time :/

  33. Jimmy Tapia on March 7, 2023 at 3:09 am

The 1911 has always been a favorite gun for me. The day I bought mine, I felt all warm and fuzzy inside. Hands down my favorite gun in my collection. Expensive for a hand gun. (And for me.) but worth every penny. 🥲

  34. *Esaíah* on March 7, 2023 at 3:11 am

1911 is still the best. Mine is a colt Commander compact my second gun still my fav.Her name is baby cause she sleeps beside me for 30 years

  36. Raul Duke on March 7, 2023 at 3:15 am

My Kimber 1911 is almost identical to yours. I wouldnt trade it for any other firearm. It is actually my EDC.

  37. Josh Hencik on March 7, 2023 at 3:15 am

Got rid of my Kimber years ago for pittance. Not sure I regret it, as I seldom carried it anyway. But it was a FIIIIIINE .45. I just am a smaller framed person, and .45s are hard to conceal. I carried a 9mm in the service, so I naturally gravitated to that.

  38. RandyR on March 7, 2023 at 3:15 am

I moved to Alabama from Massachusetts almost 8 years ago. Kimber’s aren’t sold in Massachusetts. It was one of the first purchases I made and worth every cent. It’s goes everywhere with my and is not only beautiful to look at, but also, unbelievable reliable!

  39. Josh on March 7, 2023 at 3:15 am

He thinks that’s a small 1911… lol my first 1911s were a sig p238 and a p938, beautiful guns and great shooters for their size. Can’t beat the single action trigger of a 1911.

  40. Jose Espinoza on March 7, 2023 at 3:15 am

My first 1911 is the kimber rapide.

  41. Richard Fiegen on March 7, 2023 at 3:16 am

Great memories, I can relate my friend.

  42. Jason Miller on March 7, 2023 at 3:18 am

ive had a few but i can’t find the perfect 1911 for me

  43. Wilder Wyoming on March 7, 2023 at 3:18 am

I just noticed that you have your logo engraved on your Kimber. Where did you get that done?

  44. Awesome Silver on March 7, 2023 at 3:18 am

My first 1911 is Wilson Combat and it most expensive gun ever paid money for it all started with the local gun range when I shot Wilson and Nighthawk and after that moment I always wanted one.

  45. Bx doc on March 7, 2023 at 3:19 am

My first was a 1911 Kimber, exact same experience most expensive and beautiful

  49. David Saunders on March 7, 2023 at 3:22 am

Why did you keep adjusting your hands?

  50. Denis M on March 7, 2023 at 3:22 am

I shoot several pistols. I like them all. Taurus M92, SW MP9-plus, SW EZ9, Ruger LCP, but I love my 1911’s! Para-O C7 LDA, RIA Cmdr, SA Garrison. Something addictive about the 1911 design. Thank you Mr. Browning.
