S&W's Military Pistol: The M&P 2.0 5" Review

In this episode of TFBTV, James reviews Smith &Wesson’s MHS competitor, the M&P 2.0 5 inch model.

From S&W’s press materials:

The M&P M2.0 pistol, the newest innovation to the respected M&P polymer pistol line. Designed for personal, sporting, and professional use, the M&P M2.0 delivers an entirely new platform, introducing innovative features in nearly every aspect of the pistol, including trigger, grip, frame, and finish. Highlights of the M&P M2.0 pistol include an extended stainless-steel chassis and a low barrel bore axis for reduced muzzle rise and faster aim recovery. The M&P M2.0 pistol further improves performance with a fine-tuned, crisper trigger, lighter pull and a tactile and audible reset. The pistol, available in three calibers, includes an aggressively-textured grip and four interchangeable palmswell inserts for optimal hand-fit and trigger reach.

Features
• Low barrel bore axis makes the M&P pistol more comfortable to shoot reducing muzzle rise and allowing for faster aim recovery.
• Optimal 18-degree grip angle for natural point of aim.
• Four interchangeable palmswell grip inserts for optimal hand fit and trigger reach – S, M, ML, L.
• Aggressive grip texture for enhanced control.
• New M&P M2.0 crisp trigger with lighter trigger pull.
• Tactile and audible trigger reset.
• No tactile loaded chamber indicator
• Accurate 1 in 10” twist M&P M2.0 barrel.

  4. theARcritter on November 15, 2021 at 6:22 pm

I wish they were still under $450 in 2020 :/ but then again it’s 2020, what did we expect..

  5. bigzuspanH&H on November 15, 2021 at 6:23 pm

I wish they made the 45 exactly like this without the protruding barrel.

  6. T B on November 15, 2021 at 6:23 pm

Got mine awhile ago but due to a work related Injury didn’t get to shoot it till this week. 250 rounds in and 0 hiccups with 115 grain target ammo. I shot better with this than the 320 by far. At 15 yards all shots were still in the ex. Nothing outside the 9 ring and 5 for 5 on headshots at 25 yards. I know the Sig inbthe army trials but when the title of the trials has the word "modular" in it and only 1 gun is modular it’s fair to say it was rigged from the start.

I cannot become 21 fast enough. I don’t care about alcohol, I just want an M&P

  8. Ira Fowler Jr. on November 15, 2021 at 6:24 pm

    helpful info, thanks

  9. Richard Mccain on November 15, 2021 at 6:24 pm

Oh yeah, there is no decocker. That’s why they didn’t win the contract. Had they included a decocker I would own one now.

  10. Z Nismo on November 15, 2021 at 6:25 pm

This exact model has been discontinued by Smith & Wesson meaning this will definitely be a future collectible being a sidearm that was specifically made for the Army MHS trials. An event that has only happened twice in the last 100 years!

  11. brian50g on November 15, 2021 at 6:29 pm

I’m collecting all the MHS pistols

  12. ΧΡΥ ΠΟΥ on November 15, 2021 at 6:29 pm

    M and p 2 or cz p10c or Beretta APX ?

Best gun reviews on Youtube. This is now my go to source.

  14. Say Cheese Alex on November 15, 2021 at 6:30 pm

Just bought this gun, it’s my first gun and I’m excited to go to the range and break it in

  15. Tyler Harris on November 15, 2021 at 6:31 pm

Take the safety off. Maybe. I gotta say I like having it carrying appendix. It’s really not a big deal. I rest my thumb on it so it’s never an issue. Except I seem to flip it off sometimes while on my waste iwb.

  16. mrweeby1961 on November 15, 2021 at 6:33 pm

Prefer this over a G17 any day. Both shoot well but the Smith is better ergonomically, has steel sights, better grip and just looks damn good.

  17. Duane Poole on November 15, 2021 at 6:36 pm

    Mines don’t have a safety

  18. Robo on November 15, 2021 at 6:37 pm

    This is a nice handgun

  19. Seth Rollins on November 15, 2021 at 6:39 pm

So is this the S&W M&P 2.0 Spec Series? or is this an entirely different gun? May be a silly question but I’m new to this gun shit.

  20. QUICK on November 15, 2021 at 6:40 pm

Its not "good in it’s own right"

It is the best one that was submitted.

  21. All out F150 on November 15, 2021 at 6:41 pm

Going to buy one of these, but why can’t our military switch to Glock just curious

  22. James Campbell on November 15, 2021 at 6:41 pm

LOVE the grips on the m&p 2.0

  23. DOBERMAN PAC on November 15, 2021 at 6:42 pm

I own one, love it. You might too.

  24. Zachary Maes on November 15, 2021 at 6:49 pm

Why was it failing to feed ?

  25. Dr Pappa Pillz on November 15, 2021 at 6:51 pm

Lol just switched from a g43 to this.

  26. Blitzschnel on November 15, 2021 at 6:51 pm

Mine had a failure to eject on the very first round. 124grn

  27. jai Batmanhouseparty on November 15, 2021 at 6:52 pm

  29. Texas Tackycal on November 15, 2021 at 6:55 pm

That’s not slim fit that’s an OshKosh B’Gosh kids clothing . When you start wearing an actual men’s shirt then maybe I’ll buy one 👍

  30. Delta on November 15, 2021 at 6:56 pm

I’ve heard these are dreams to shoot in 40 .

  31. Spitch Grizwald on November 15, 2021 at 6:58 pm

Is problematic ejection a thing with polymer pistols in general? I thought it was just Glock (brass to face, anyone?), but I see that this M&P has inconsistent ejection also.

  32. Scott Thrower on November 15, 2021 at 7:00 pm

Are the TFB banana hammock, emory board and chip clip available yet?

  33. Duty.Honor.Caffeine on November 15, 2021 at 7:00 pm

I’m getting one. Fine. You helped sell me. I actually went to buy one last month and left out the store worth a Ruger 57. I’m going back for this soon.

  34. Douglas Shockley on November 15, 2021 at 7:01 pm

Anyone ever tell you that you look like a Young Fred Ward?

  35. USARMYvietnamVET1969 on November 15, 2021 at 7:02 pm

This pistol fits my hand like a glove, I like the manual safety, shoots well and the kind of an Olive Drab looking finish is very appealing. I find it shoots best with 124 gr ammo. I have absolutely no complaints.

  36. Jonny F on November 15, 2021 at 7:02 pm

You’re recoil spring was in backwards

  37. victor070 on November 15, 2021 at 7:06 pm

Ahhh you lucky americans. I own the early 5" pro. Cant buy a second handgun, must go trough hell to swap mine to 2.0 🙁

  40. Mance 79 on November 15, 2021 at 7:07 pm

I have the one but with no safety,I’m having a hard time to find an optic(red dot) that’s compatible with this gun.. can anyone help!?.

  41. Kevin Fitzsimmons on November 15, 2021 at 7:09 pm

P10c has a better trigger, glock has more upgrades, m&p is the better shooter for me overall.

  42. Wayne Edward on November 15, 2021 at 7:10 pm

$499 this was submitted it lost but so did Glock they lost as well sig got the contract that’s a beast 17 rounds!!The top of the line mp and still $499

  43. Jannet Fate on November 15, 2021 at 7:11 pm

  44. Malachi L on November 15, 2021 at 7:13 pm

does any one here know if smith still makes the version of this with the thumb safety

  45. Walter Bigsby on November 15, 2021 at 7:13 pm

6:30 Definitely a more aesthetically pleasing pistol than the glock.

  46. BillHimmel on November 15, 2021 at 7:13 pm

    Great review!

  47. jason hensley on November 15, 2021 at 7:15 pm

I beleive your spring is in backwards

  48. TheBrewer3535 on November 15, 2021 at 7:16 pm

I have the same gun which I love and compete in Steel challenge with. The only current upgrade are TFO sights. Some real world feedback.
    1. Out of the box my trigger was meh. After a few hundred rounds and a couple cleanings it was 100% better. Clean, crisp with a great reset. Not an APEX but darn good.
    2. Due to slide weight and/or spring weight this gun prefers warm 115grn, or 124-147 grain ammo. Light target loads will give weak ejection.
    3. With over 5k rounds through this gun, I’ve only had one stovepipe/ FTE with Rem UMC 115 very early on.

  49. Jason Croft on November 15, 2021 at 7:17 pm

Great review! I’d gave the manual safety removed, but other than that, very nice.

I was sad to see some Optics Ready 2.0 5” listed as “Law Enforcement Only” on S&W’s website.

  50. Richard Mccain on November 15, 2021 at 7:17 pm

I don’t understand why there is not a 45 or 10mm with the five-inch barrel. Duh, just f me to tears.
