Yo!! Great video as ALWAYS… Have you ever heard of or seen the 0-1 tool steel Suarez International Grab-n-Stab? I have the OG version that is silver, but they made a black coated version for a while, I believe. They don’t make them anymore, but maybe you can find one 2nd hand… they are badass….

True, you don’t need a 300 custom knife with super steel to have a good self defender

  3. Jerry Don Quixote on August 10, 2022 at 7:45 pm

There are those people that don’t think they’ll ever need weapons I know them they’re very liberal I feel like chances are will never have to use these but I’d rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it I had a liberal roommate he was a pilot and scared well he wasn’t scared enough he didn’t realize that there’s danger out there I said dude at least carry a mace if you don’t want to hurt somebody so you don’t get attacked people will attack you just to take your wallet anyway if it comes down to me or them I’d rather it be them than me I don’t I’m not feeling it adequate! I have had to use an improvised weapon to save myself one time and I used a writing pen. That’s all I had and it worked they dropped like a rock when I finally realized that I had to push it with both hands to get it to poke in their kidneys that was the end of the attack!

While looking for a very functional fixed blade self defense blade for my wife & kids I stumbled across Canku on Amazon. Well first off these are Chinese clone so what does that mean exactly? It means they stole someones IP (intellectual property/idea/ creation), they then produce the knife in the equivalent of sweat shops where the employees make next to nothing, and while Canku knives are supposedly D2 steel blades they state the handle is stainless so we have to wonder about what steel are they using & how is the heat treat. Will the knife hold an edge, will the blade snap or break with normal use, & am I fine giving my money to Communist China who stole the design & is now undercutting the original maker in an attempt to.fool those who are only looking at appearance? Canku ( & a couple others with IDENTICAL products) has cloned the Tops Street Scalpel as C1390, & several Bastinelli knives including collabs with Doug Marcaida such as the Dopamine – C1150, Picoeur – C1104, Spade – C1134, a smaller 3.9" vs 4.9" bladed version of the Mako – C1490, Pika – C1102 & a few more! I am sure all of their designs are stolen or at best only slightly altered. I purchased six of the knives including the Tops Street Scalpel clone, & the rest being Bastinelli. I haven’t had them for 24 hours so haven’t been able to check edge retention, ease of sharpening (D2 should be harder than a cheap stainless), or toughness, but sadly the edge grinds, kydex holsters (most come with the standard or small.Tek Lok knockoff), as well as fit & finish including scales is as good or better than some.knives I’ve received from.Ontario or Kabar. Out of the box sharpness isn’t amazing.but is workable. The blades on most are distal.tapered & if the design dictated they come to a extremely sharp tip that would truly penetrate flesh like butter (I did test this on cardboard & a pork butt). I don’t know how the tips or blades woyld fair if one were to hit bone per se but even the tip on my Spyderco Mil in CPM S30V is known for being delicate. With my limited use of the blades I wouldn’t replace my Spydercos, ESEE, or LT Wright knives, but here is why I am interested in them. I have a wife that carries a handgun, but if you are attacked & grappling, clinched up, or on the ground with an attacker on you especially for a smaller weaker person (& it even happens to strong folks) that can be a very bad time to try & draw a pistol as it will likely become entangled & now you run the risk of acvidentally shooting yourself in the scrum, or even worse your attacker wrestling the gun from you. You are also taking a great risk that due to the wrestling your shot misses & puts a bystander at risk (we are responsible for each round we fire). Craig Douglas from Shivworks teaches a small knife on your waistline in feont of you is ideal for creating space when being attacked. If you can deploy a knife and slash or stab an attacker it may give you enoigh time to create distance & safely draw & fire your pistol. That is where I am planning on using these not for a "user" where steel quality matters, but rather taking advantage of the fantastic Bastinelli designs & giving my wife & kids an economical knife (the Bastinellis run $125 & up for small knives) that will always on their person & only be used in an emergency. If they should use the knife defending their life it will be taken in as evidence & it may take years to get back. That is a bigger deal a pricey knife & not one with these. I have my wife, six kids at home still so I can equip them with one of these effective clones for what a single Bastinelli costs! If I used the real thing we are $800 or so for a knife that God willing will never be used! So that is my thoughts on these. Also I recommend purchasing Ulti Clips which gives you a great cam style clip that will keep the knife secure on shorts, jeans, yoga pants ect. No belt required. I look forwsrd to neating on these knives and seeing how tough & how hood the heat treat & steel are. I would love to hear other peoples thoughts as every video is just desktop or trying to slice paper with the factory edge. Sorry for the rant, but hope this helps you guys especially those on a budget or who need to equip a tribe.

Links to all are included for your convenience in the text description box, plus some Cold Steel bats and other useful items for β€œwhen diplomacy fails.” Enjoy :]

  8. Larry Koziol on August 10, 2022 at 7:54 pm

@18:00 you mention brandishing to intimidate and hopefully scare off an attacker. I strongly disagree with that & here is why. First off if I was angry and about to fight someone or even rob them.& they draw a knife well now they just escalated the conflict & instead of a quick robbery leaving them likely unharmed or maybe just roughed up now you threatened my life so I may try to take that knife or draw my own and cut you up. Also if someone hasn’t attacked you there is still a chance at walking away without a fight so use your words & how you carry yourself, and finally these knives are small and most are designed for conceal carry. Learn to use a knife while grabbling and you will have a huge advantage when you quickly deploy the blade and run it like a sewing machine on them (quick repetitive violent stabs to the abdomen preferably targetting the liver, kidneys, & heart & lungs (but lower abdomen is a very easy target when grappling) if they have a hold of you it is also easy to trap that hand, use the knife to cut deeply severing muscles, tendonds, & possibly an artery while causing horrific damage & bleeding that with a single cut can leave a limb useless. The element of surprise followed with violence of action is how most street fights are one. Watch a street fight and the winner often throws a surprise haymaker & then unleashes an unrelenting series of punches (combos) often ending the fight in seconds. Watch old Kimbo Slice or Jorge Masvidal videos a street fight or beating isn’t a boxing match. Curious to hear other opinions. Also I encourage anyone that carries a knife or gun learn bjj & or greco roman or catch wrestling. I also think muay thai is fantastic for syriking especially when grappling & in the clinch. With good grappling skills and preferably some strik8ng you don’t need to be a "knife fighter" or Kali master to effectively use these knives. Also a small knife on the front of your waist is extremely effective if attacked while in your car. Deploying a knife that is onnyour hip often behind a seatbelt, or has a 8" blade is difficult if not impossible to deploy & use with someone on top of you while you are likely still bickled into your seat.

I just wanted to add that Luvthemknives & JCoolG19 discuss the steel, MPI, & cut tests on various knives & especially knockoffs. They have tested the Canku D2 & it seems to be consistent at 59-60 HRC. D2 hardness ranges from 55-62. As you reach 60-62 I have seen issues with chipping so honestly 59-60 is fine. Honestly, I would rather have these in 1095 but oh well. Now we know the steel is likely D2 & has been heat-treated properly. We need MPI to verify if it truly is D2.

  18. Jerry Don Quixote on August 10, 2022 at 8:09 pm

Good review sometimes it is nice to have a useful knife that you didn’t pay $200 or $300 for and can really use or beat up on or if you do have to use it for self-defense and the police take it away from you you just lost a $26 knife instead of a $200 knife.

The war tech is trying to copy the ZU Bladeworx Omega. I have one and it’s a amazing design. The Omega is quite a bit thicker but I still use paracord sometimes. The top edge is sharp too. I might pick up a war tech and use it as a trainer. Thanks for the video! πŸ‘Š

  20. Matt Adler on August 10, 2022 at 8:12 pm

the tip on that Canku looks like a needle. is that one that you worry about loosing the tip when you draw it? I have been checking it out for a while, but I dont really see it working very much for utility needs. any thoughts?

  22. Nathan D Kreosote on August 10, 2022 at 8:13 pm

Totally agree with cheap fixed blades for self defense. Unless it snaps in half when you need to need to use it, steel doesn’t matter when your tool only really needs to be used once.

Look for a well designed fixed blade, one that fills the hand and isn’t glued together and you’ll have a good package that’s easier to carry and cheaper than a firearm.

Realized this when I was looking at $200 EOS Thresher dagger and realized a bad guy isn’t going to care If I stab him with CPM-3V or cast iron pot metal, if it does the job no need to spend hundreds.

ill agree but its not that clear cut all the time, winter and summer make a difference, karambits sure beautiful but you have to be an expert in your strikes and also when short and fighting someone crazed will not be that easy. i personally edc the kobun iwb and im happy with it.

  34. CLOUD NINE on August 10, 2022 at 8:24 pm

I agree with this. My "self defense" knives I actually own a fiew of these "canku" knives. For a knife I can eventually loose weather to the cops, street, or had to "ditch" I hope I never half to do ANY of those things. Im Going to be ok with loosing a $20-$40 knife. Im not gonna carry around a knife for "self defense" that costs $100s of dollars… That would be Stupid. I guarantee i can do as much damage of not more with my $40 ka-bar TDI than someone with their $200 karambit…

  35. KerzyZoosky on August 10, 2022 at 8:26 pm

    My Opinion:

Slash: Momentum-based. An arc is created with a bladed weapon resulting in a cut. The cut is a result of a follow-through motion – whatever material is in the way. Reliant on initial direction.
Slice: Not momentum-based. A cut produced by an intentional direction. The cut shape is created manually along the path of the cut, where the path can be changed at any point for effectiveness. Not reliant on initial direction.

27:39 that is what I’m talking about I ordered another one has a different kind of Kydex sheath I may get them about the same time the ones made in Italy and this one here is made in China the one you’re showing, but they’re both like a scalpel, the other one’s a little bit shorter the one that’s made in Italy it’s supposed to be D2 still but they have one for a hundred and something dollars this supposed to be that NG60 Bholer steel, but I chose to get the one under $30 with D2 steel they have a black coating anyway I’ll try to remember to let you know what I think about them when I get them. I ordered both off Amazon even though I’m not a big fan of Amazon…

Even Doug Marcaida teaches to be careful with the ring on a karambit. If someone happens to twist it during a struggle they can very easily break your finger or even "deglove" it, meaning the skin on your finger gets ripped off like a glove… Doug teaches to only keep part of your finger in the ring so you can remove it quickly.
