It might be a little more honest than most with the power bank capacity.
Packaging shows: _usable capacity 1700mAh (5V / 1A)_
Battery: _3.7V 5Ah_
Battery label: _18.5Wh_
But then it is called a 5000 in the model number…
Confused why it says usable capacity that is less than half of the battery’s capacity when the step up converter should be better than 90+% efficient. But this still is way better than most that claim their battery’s capacity in mAh at 3.7V as the USB 5V capacity in mAh.

Oh that’s really clever, they’ve combined the function of the battery with a heatsink for the LED module. Very innovative design! I guess they could’ve further optimised the design by also sticking a spring on the battery and turning it into a ratchet as well.

That actually looks like a decent and very versatile portable DIY light. Magnets for automotive work, hooks and adjustable stand for household or garden DIY. Very useful to be able to bounce light off in a couple of different directions when decorating too. I have to say I’m very tempted to get one now.
After seeing how close the LED strip is to the LiPo I’m glad I didn’t buy one.
The big question though, do the leds light up green whilst charging????

Fascinating! Looks like a great collection of repurposable modules, too. To think that someone can now do videos of what I used to get spankings for when I was a child – taking things apart! Of course I’m glued to this channel – all of the disassembly, without the spankings.
Solder ball on the boost IC pin 8 pad. 10:04 Could be bad news if it gets dislodged. That’s what happens when you don’t clean the PCB after soldering.
I would either reduce the current to the LEDs, or place an aluminum plate between the LED and the poly cell.
4-5 folds of aluminum foil if you have no other option, but a solid plate would be best.
If that battery if full and you heat it up, you’ll have a bad day.
So the R102 is 1000R… except for the R102 above the left 8 pin IC that R102 is twice as big. Ya, that all makes perfect sense. 8-/ – 11:13
I see Lidl have £9:99 autoranging multimeters in next week (possibly this week for some) they look quite good for the money. I wouldn’t use one on 240v, but it would be ideal to leave in the car, just in case.
I am not really sure about strapping down the LIPO with the LED heat sink is a good idea … looks like a critical design failure to me. 🤔

Can anyone advise me on making up a PCB with flashing led for alarm boxes? I see Julian uses the PCB company but do they provide schematic with them? As energy efficient as possible please? ✌️🙏✌️

Wat, 62$, don’t feel embarrassed. This is fun to look at, people appreciate the effort you put into it, learn something and you get awarded for quite some effort. Must take some hours making and editing the video. It’s a bargain.

It looks pretty cool tbh. In a room with no power or lights the power bank might be pretty handy. 5000mah doesn’t seem huge though
Really, though, hats off to whoever thought to label the PCB with the component values instead of arbitrary numbering.
For too much spring force you can try cutting some of it off. Don’t cut too much without testing as you go.
I love the USB type-c input for charging. Kinda surprised they are using LiPo instead of lithium ion.
I got one of these last week. Nice light! I don’t think I’ll ever use the powerbank function either. I was expecting this to have 18650’s. Now I don’t have to wonder anymore. Thanks for the video!
Perhaps modify it so that the LEDs over the battery run at a lower current to help them stay cooler?
We in Australia done get as much stuff now from China. Usb-c is not as good as the old style. Plus the reason they are using Lipo is they can make it there so cheaper.
But you didn’t say how much it cost, if cheap enough it might be worth it just to strip down just for the battery and cobs.

Julian, have you seen the guy in New Zealand who has used an old washing machine to power his house from a puddle up a hill from his house. apparently he’s been power his home for over sixteen years now. and the only modern tech he’s using is some li- po batteries & some BMS’s that you use for the shed.. plus a cordless drill o help with regulation if my memory servers me right. The water from the puddle(which is almost completely dried up, but it works great) is far up a hill form his home & he pipes it down with long pipes connected together. & then into the cordless drill for regulating flow when needed. and its bloody genius. And well worth a look..

My Led’s at the back are blinking all the time even if i charge it, even when i do not use it whole night it blinking all the time, do you have maybe any solutions for that?
most of those lights a kind of a scam. the only way to get their runtime is by lowering the power after some time. had this with another lidl light i had to return because of that and since then i testet some other random lights directly at the shop and they all had the same issiue.
Thanks for keeping the technical content down. The last thing people want is to see things like using the oscilloscope to look at the PWM signals driving the LEDs, or measuring the current drawn by the LEDs, or looking at the quality of the 5 Volt output with a USB tester and USB load, or checking the current drawn by the unit in charge mode.
Anybody had any issues charging theirs?
