Polish Vis 35 – the best pistol of WWII?

The Polish Vis 35 is known by several names. It’s also known as the wz.35 or even the P35(p). The Vis 35 was Polands internally developed 9mm handgun for their military post WWI. After the Nazi’s invaded Poland, they took over production and used the P.35(p) as one of their many service pistols. Some collectors argue it’s the best fighting handgun of WWII.

German version of Polish VIS was build from worse materials with poor finish…oryginal polish VIS was pure art of hand gun…check polish quality policy in that time…

  6. Janōsik on November 3, 2021 at 11:17 pm

Important! After capturing factories by Germans quality was sabotaged.

  7. John Pearson on November 3, 2021 at 11:19 pm

I just wanted to say that I have a type 1 and had a type 2 and four original mags and they all drop free every time. They actually come out with a little spring pressure.

  8. Ponury on November 3, 2021 at 11:20 pm

The demand of "one hand operating" was coming from Polish cavalry becouse left hand was enaged with reins control. Polish factory Radom is going to re-establish the manufacturing of this handgun pretty soon. Looking forward to that! :-). Thank you MAC for your evaluation.

Nearly every European country in WW2 had horses in their cavalry, including the Third Reich. And the magazine releases like that so they are dropped from horseback and lost.

  13. Steven H. on November 3, 2021 at 11:22 pm

My LGS has 1, didn’t know who the manufacture was, just thought it was a 1911 rip off, glad I did some research, now kind of want it

I know it’s several years after that video was made, but right now – there is VIS-100 being made, I don’t know if You can get one, since its being made for military and other uniformed formations in Poland. From what I hear, it’s a good pistol as well. Also – VIS is a short name for our longest river, Vistula ("Wisła" in Polish). And I love whenever a foreigner talks about even a fraction about Polish history. Call me a a maggot, but I’m a patriot. One that support the great USA and wish for the same freedom here. God bless America and Poland!

Considering the II Polish Republic only had 20 years to come out of the ashes and destruction of WWI and then the Polish-Soviet war, their designers came up with some quality weapons. The ViS, the UR anti-tank rifle, some of the best fighter plane designs of the early 30’s and the Los bomber.

  21. jan kowalski on November 3, 2021 at 11:36 pm

the original Polish pistol was much more carefully made (and of course much nicer – it was said to be too nice for a military pistol)
below are the differences in the original and in German’s versions .
Germany produced the Polish gun throughout the Second World War in Austria and the most common versions are German versions, unfortunately.

  28. Todd B on November 3, 2021 at 11:45 pm

This is easily the best video on the Vis 35 on You Tube and the most thorough assembly/disassembly of the pistol. This is classic MAC!! I wish you would do more videos like this today.

  29. Jack Swiatek on November 3, 2021 at 11:46 pm

many think that cavalry or horses were absolute by 2WW but in fact German Army in 1939 was mostly composed of horses. In fact, Germans even created gas masks for horses. If I remember correctly, Goring at Nuremberg trial answered why Germans did not use gas as a weapon…. and his answer was…. horses. We did not want to kill our horses.

"FB Radom" means "Fabryka Broni Radom" which means in english "Weapon Factory Radom". Radom is a city. Many germanics around the world have no idea of what it means.

  37. M J23 on November 3, 2021 at 11:55 pm

Thanks for the great video. I inherited a Vis 35 that my dad brought back from Germany. Great hand gun.

  38. richard kluesek on November 3, 2021 at 11:56 pm

A "best" video on takedown and explanation of the mechanics of this fascinating sidearm. Though there are arguably ‘better’ pistols this is still one worth having and would be nice if Radom started making upgraded modern ones just for plinking shootin’ irons. Like with better sights, upgraded magazine system to drop free with 9 rounds and the first class cool Polish Eagle. Maybe too a retro with that nasty nuttynazi scrawny vulture to designate a lower grade economy version.

  39. kozakpolityczny i inne on November 3, 2021 at 11:59 pm

Radom factory make a modern pistol now,VIS 100,the name refers to 100 years of independence

I have one of these. It was brought back by my Father after WWII. It is a 1939 Polish Eagle version one of the last with the shoulder stock slot in the rear of the grip. It is a VERY find shooting and very comfortable grip as it is a single row mag.

  43. Jack Swiatek on November 4, 2021 at 12:01 am

I think that why the mag doesnt pop out on a spring is to not to loose it while on a horse. Sure, that requires both hands to operate and give a little extra time to load it.

  45. Jim Naz on November 4, 2021 at 12:02 am

great review. FYI germany also used horse cavelry throughout wwii. horses and oxen were the primary power sources of Nazi Germany. transport bothe to east and west. we hear about blitzkreig, but that was a tiny part of the weremacht. there were not nearly enough trucks to transport the millions of troops, and there was no diesel fuel or gasoline for them anyway. one of the reasons winter was such a disaster for germany in soviet union was 1) scorched earth of the soviets, and 2) in winter there was no fodder for the horses and they mostly starved to death.

Poland existed on the map for 900 out of the last 1,000 years – not counting the few years of WW2, Poland dissappeared completely only ONCE since 1795 to 1918. I cringe every time i hear Poland dissapeared hundreds of times. People cant even say more than one.
